Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard

TVGB: So maybe Matt Hazard's first outing wasn't as good as we hoped but we're all for second chances here. D3 isn't ready to let its satirical action hero go and is probably creating a second game in the Matt Hazard universe. Last week D3 filed for the trademark of Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond. We're pretty sure it is a game because it's filed under the software and electronic games category. The jury is still out on whether this game will be a full scale retail title or purely downloadable.

The game casts the player as Matt Hazard, a retired videogame action hero who's career was torn apart by shoddy franchise cash-ins. Given one last chance of stardom by the owner of videogame publishing giant Marathon Software, Wallace Wally Wellesley, he jumps in head first – only to find that not everything is as it seems.

Joystiq writes: D3Publisher is working on a retro-style side-scrolling XBLA and PSN action game intended to fill in the backstory of Matt Hazard, the lead character of Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. It's planned for release sometime this summer. (Eat Lead launches against Halo Wars on March 3.) If you're not hip to Eat Lead's hook, it's supposed to be the latest game in a long-running series, and Matt Hazard is supposed to be a video game icon. Only it isn't and he's not. The downloadable game is ostensibly one of his past titles being made available for the first time in years. Only it's not. Get it? We'd hazard a guess that this game could do well -- if the synthetic nostalgia and in-jokes of Eat Lead aren't lost on the larger gaming audience.

TVGB: ...the question hot on our minds popped up in a recent interview clip with Hazard in which he claims to have not only bedded, but also been the cause of an unnamed English female who raids tombs' current success. Our crack reporters and top scientists used logic to deduce that he was discussing none other than Lara Croft. We had to find out just what getting it on with her was like.
