The first trailer for the PlayStation Vita's Disgaea 3 Return has recently surfaced on Nippon Ichi's teaser site. The full site will go live on the August 18, but we already know two things: the game's name is Disgaea 3 Return and that the trailer follows in the grand tradition of Disgaea trailers in that it's way too confusing for us to tell what's going on (and we already played original PS3 version). Fortunately, the cinematic stampede of large Japanese text, bright flashes, and quick cuts to atmospheric vantage points also comes with a few straightforward announcements...

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is coming to PlayStation Vita. Speaking to Japanese magazine Dengeki, Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa confirmed that the turn-based strategy RPG will receive the handheld port treatment. The game has a new name, Disgaea 3 Return (or “Returns” depending on the translation), but it's not clear if Return will be a serious re-imagining or straight port to Vita. Niikawa didn't mention any gameplay changes, but he did talk about a handful of added features...

Destructoid writes: I love Atlus and I love Nippon Ichi Software, and those sons of bitches know that they have people like me in their pockets. I can't break away. They could sell me almost anything! Thankfully, they're selling the good stuff. They send word that this obscure game dream team continues to bring in the niche hits with Disgaea DS and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure. Oh, and Disgaea 3 for the PS3, of course.
Siliconera writes: Last week we gave a skeleton outline of Nippon Ichi's downloadable content plan for Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. The first content pack for Japan comes out in June and it includes a few familiar faces.
PS3 Fanboy: Hardcore SRPG fans love the Disgaea franchise. PS3 owners should be happy to know that the next iteration of the franchise, Absence of Justice, is a PS3 exclusive. Even better than that, the game will launch at $50, instead of the usual $60 we see for most current generation games. We're glad NIS America is giving us a discount on what will undoubtedly become a cult classic. It may not have the best next gen graphics, but at least it's not asking us to pay a next gen price as well. We can approve. Expect it on August 26th. Fans should check out the official site and vote on their favorite songs from the franchise. The top choices will be included in a pre-order bonus soundtrack, making the deal even sweeter.
PSU didn't think it was possible to expand upon a universe that already delivers countless hours of gameplay; however, Nippon Ichi has found a way by setting up a monthly expansion pack for Disgaea 3, through 2008 in Japan. There has been no clarification as to if this will make its way over to the North American or European regions as well, but much like the rest of you RPG-starved gamers, we're hoping so.
If you head over to this voting site, you can listen to songs from all three Disgaea games and also vote for up to five songs from each game. Voting ends July 7, so get started here. Disgaea 3, a PS3-exclusive S-RPG, is expected for an August 2008 release in North America.
Last night publisher NIS America revealed their fall lineup, and for the first time in memory there was a lack of PlayStation support. Instead the company, known for its charming RPGs and affection for hand-drawn anime art over 3D cutscenes, revealed a major push into the Nintendo DS market. Makes sense, seeing as neither PS3 nor PSP have the same kind of pull as DS at this point. So, what do level-grinding RPG fanatics have to look forward
Disgaea 3 hasn't even come to North America, but PS3 gamers in Japan are eating it up. Now they're already getting some new downloadable content to add insult to injury. Siliconera is reporting that on April 25th the PlayStation 3 update will hit with ten playable super powerful
