Ever since the PS3 integrated Trophy support into its firmware with version 2.40, people have been keeping an eye on Sony's other platform: the PSP. It isn't hard to believe that people have been looking for Trophy support to move onto the PSP - it's proven a great success on the handheld's big daddy, the PS3, and taken plenty of cues from the highly addictive Achievement system created on XBox Live. Capcom has revealed that profits for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008, were up 33.4 per cent to JPY 7.8 billion, while sales for the same period were up 11.5 per cent to JPY 83 billion.

The company singled out Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Devil May Cry 4 as strong performers, particularly in markets outside of Japan.

The company's home videogames unit saw sales rise 18 per cent to JPY 51.67 billion, and operating income rose 44.1 per cent to JPY 11.6 billion.

GameDaily BIZ reports that it has received the latest Japanese video game sales data from Famitsu Marketing Data Service covering the month of February (technically the period from Jan. 28 to Feb. 24), and while the overall market was down 7.7 percent year-over-year, largely because of a 24.6 percent drop in hardware sales, software sales did increase 8.1 percent.

Leading the charge was none other than Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which racked up sales of more than 1.3 million units in its first month and broke the million mark in its second week Â¿ the fastest sales pace yet for a Wii game in Japan. The popular Wii Fit took second place with over 309K units sold, and the game now has over 1.5 million units sold since last December. Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 took third place with a respectable 275K units sold. For comparison purposes DMC4 on Xbox 360 sold 51K units.

"We have to disagree with your conclusion that the trend of Xbox 360 versions of games being best is changing, especially when you look at the entire catalog of multiplatform titles available. We also feel there were some key features of Xbox 360 games that deserved a little more play in your reviews. For multiplatform console owners, Achievements and Gamerscore have to be listed as an influencing factor to purchase the Xbox 360 version; their success and popularity is undeniable. The fact that other consoles have not implemented anything like this across every game should not be a reason to leave these features out of consideration. Plus, with Xbox 360 the capability for controller rumble comes standard, not as a future option and you get all the benefits of Xbox LIVE and its community of more than 10 million members.

'The cold, hard truth' is that Xbox 360 has the best games - and industry reviewers and consumers agree. Xbox 360 has more games with an aggregate review score of 90 or higher than the competition combined and multiplatform titles regularly sell better on Xbox 360. The majority of games are still lead developed for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE simply makes games better. When Capcom announced Devil May Cry 4 was going multiplatform last year, PlayStation loyalists decried the move as a betrayal. Since its launch in 2001 with the original Devil May Cry, the franchise had only appeared on the PlayStation 2 with the fourth installment originally announced as a PS3 exclusive.

However, the Japanese's publisher's decision to release its demon-slaying game on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has paid off. Today, Capcom announced that since its release in the US and Europe earlier this month and in Japan in January, Devil May Cry 4 has sold over 2 million units worldwide.

DMC4's rapid success makes the game the fastest-selling installment in the seven-year-old series. It also accounts for just under a quarter of the entire franchise's total of 9 million units in sales, according to Capcom. The well-reviewed game's haul is also poised to increase later this year, when DMC4 is released on the PC.

You'd think there'd be a benefit after being forced to install nearly 5GB of game data, like shorter or even no loading times during the entire game. Funny thing is though, it doesn't make much difference to load times compared to the 360 version, that you can play straight away.

The decision to price the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4 £10 higher than the Xbox 360 version came from retailers, not publisher Capcom, VideoGamer.com has learned.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, a spokesperson for Capcom said: "We don't set the prices of our games, that's at the discretion of the retailer. In this specific instance, the process has resulted in a price difference, but the process itself is not something we completely control."

Gamasutra reports this week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, representing the most requested games for the week ending January 21st, highlight both to-be-released and already released games in a unique demand-specific chart.

Burnout Paradise hangs on to the top spot for the second week in a row. Capcom's Devil May Cry 4, slated to release February 5th, made the top five twice last week --the Xbox 360 SKU in second position, and the PS3 SKU in fourth -- but this week, the Xbox 360 SKU steps back a spot to third, while the PS3 SKU fails to chart in the top 5.

Capcom explains pricing difference for Devil May Cry 4 in PAL-areas (News)

Some consumers in Europe and Australia might have noticed it already. The Xbox 360 version of Devil May Cry 4 is a bit cheaper than the Playstation 3 version in all of the PAL-areas. The Xbox 360 version has a suggested retail price of €59.99, compared to €69.99 on the Playstation 3. Dutch website PS3Only contacted Capcom for an explanation:

"I didn't realize we were the only publisher doing this. In actuality, it's not that the PS3 version has been made more expensive, but that our business model has allowed us to discount the Xbox 360 version."

This is especially strange, considering the price of both version in America en Japan is exactly equal.

According to the official Capcom blog, 100 total copies of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition will come personally signed in shiny, silvery ink by the game's producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi. The signed copies will be randomly distributed across the US to a number of retailers and distributors.

Foreign reviewers have received copies of Devil May Cry 4 on PS3, and have revealed a few new details about the game. First is an annoyance that we're sure many will complain about: the 5GB install to remove the game's load times is not optional. When the game releases, you'll be forced to endure minutes upon minutes of waiting as the game copies gigabytes of data to your PS3 hard drive.

There's good news, though. The game will use the PSN for ranking modes. You'll also be able to collect achievements in the game (like in the Xbox 360 version) and you'll be able to see what achievements your friends have collected (a la Xbox Live).

In this month's issue of Famitsu, a popular Japanese magazine, they reveal that Capcom will be including exclusive features in the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4. Some of these new features include; 5.1 LPCM audio, PSN support, and the option to install data to the hard drive. Apparently though, game data takes up 5GB of storage, but on the bright side of things, it removes all load times in the game.

There were rumors that the Blu-ray release of Resident Evil Extinction would include playable demos of Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4. Capcom shot down the rumor today via the Capcom Unity Blog.

From the blog: "Some reports are saying that the disc will contain "two video game demos (for Devil May cry 4 and Resident Evil 5). This is unfortunately incorrect: the disc actually has hi-def trailers for both of those games, not actual playable code."

PS3 to get Blu-ray Profile 1.1 update before end of year (News)

Sony will update the Sony Firmware so that its Blu-ray player can read Blu-ray Profile 1.1 discs in time for the USA release of Resident Evil Extinction on the 2nd of January 2008. The Blu-ray movie is expected to be the most advanced blu-ray disc it will feature true picture in picture and 'Blu-Wizard 2' which will allow your player to 'remember' your viewing preferences for the movie, even after you have ejected it.

The movie will also feature PlayStation 3 demos of Devil May Cry 4 and the new Resident Evil game.
