Some games just never stand a chance, do they? Hated on from the moment they’re announced for a variety of reasons, they’re critically stoned by journos and gamers long before anyone lays finger on pad. The following titles all fall into this category of pre-release hatred. Whether they betrayed their series’ heritage, alienated PC gamers or their developer simply shouted his big fat mouth off too much; these games loved ... » Read More

For a medium that lets us chainsaw faces off, punch presidents in their plums and slaughter endangered species, it's amazing how sensitive some of us get when developers do things we don't agree with. Certainly there have been many decisions to get us all worked up, whether it's Killzone 2's 'target footage'  or Shigsy shedding that last bit of lingering dignity by playing Wii Music like a diminutive Japanese John Williams. That’s ... » Read More

PS3 - Devil May Cry 4 - The Surprising Origins of Your Favorite Games Believe it or not, but some of your favorite games began life as completely different titles. Balderdash, you might say. Poppycock, even. While it’s known that game development is more rocky than smooth, there have been a number of instances when devs and producers take their widely-anticipated title back to the drawing board. ... » Read More

PS3 - Devil May Cry 4 - Kick-ass powers that game characters forgot they had Cutscene after cutscene, they exhibit planet-shaking combat abilities and a level of indestructibility which would make God himself jealous. But as soon as you pick up the controller? The Incredible Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner and all of those showboating tricks and superhuman powers disappear into the ether. Just why do game characters save their best tricks until we've already done all the hard work for them? Here are the worst offenders. ... » Read More

Jan 10, 2007 We're all used to seeing games make the jump from small screen to silver screen. But getting sprinkled with a little Hollywood magic isn't the only way that our favourite game characters can be packaged to appeal to a broader audience. Every so often virtual heroes of gaming dodge the bright lights of a blockbuster movie (or, indeed, a veritable cinematic craptacular) and find themselves transformed into a cartoonified persona. But which of gaming's iconic faces have been treated ... » Read More

Dec 21, 2007 A couple weeks ago, we ran a preview of Devil May Cry 4 that mentioned offhandedly that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, based on our brief time with them, looked and played identically. Unsurprisingly, this prompted a few readers to crawl slowly out of the woodwork, chanting in arcane rhythms about "framerate" and "processing power" and "memory" and generally calling bullshit on our assertion. Having finally received near-complete versions of the game from Capcom, ... » Read More

When you look back at what the PlayStation 2 is, the tone for action-adventure games was entirely set by the original Devil May Cry. The series shaped the very way we think about 3D action, sword fighting, gun slinging and adventure. With Devil May Cry 4 set to hit the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 later this year, the developers at Capcom are banking that they can recapture the lighting in a bottle that made the series such a formidable killer the first time around. Over the course of the ... » Read More

Devil May Cry shaped the very way we look at action-adventure games on the PlayStation 2. It wasn't until God of War came along, four years later, that we even began to consider new ways to play them. So now that we're moving to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, what does Devil May Cry 4 do that will yank the series back into the spotlight? Well, the obvious answer, and the most immediate one when you finally sit down in front of Devil May Cry 4, is "look really pretty." Across the net, ... » Read More

If a man defines himself by his enemies, then Devil May Crys Dante must be borderline schizophrenic. One minute hes fighting hells lava-spewing minions - the next hes shooting a giant canary on a pirate ship. Before lunch hes murdering hordes of marionettes - afterwards hes slicing up an orangutan in an abandoned train station. In a world of increasingly humanoid bosses, Devil May Cry takes the grand old tradition of packing some of the most misshapen, misguided and mental bosses possible into ... » Read More
