You've not played a team deathmatch until you've played as an evil alien infant
Nov 04, 2010
Until we attended an EA event in London recently, we had no idea what the hell Dead Space 2’s multiplayer was about. Safe to say, after playing half a dozen games on PS3, mostly involving us melting men’s faces off with alien infants of doom, we’ve now got a fair impression. Inside, you’ll discover why the game’s take on team deathmatch is not only horribly unnerving, but also a brutal blast to play online.

You should be afraid of the multiplayer, but in the best way possible
Sep 11, 2010
The original Dead Space was a harrowing solitary experience, as the silent Isaac Clarke searched a derelict spaceship for his fiancé while fighting off hideous creatures. In early 2011 the sequel will be out, with improvements players had been asking for, but the rumored multiplayer wasn’t on the minds of some. Many, including me, thought that any possible multiplayer would ruin the haunting, lonely feel of the Dead Space universe, so when I was invited to the unveiling of the online multiplayer I was a little skeptical. Three hours later and I’d be singing a different tune...

The Sprawl proves surprising to explore, while the new necromorphs suitably terrify
Jul 21, 2010
Our recent Dead Space 2 demo experience left us impressed and excited, but also cursing the long wait until the game comes out. The section we experienced also did not dispel the worries that DS 2 may have strayed too far away from atmospheric horror and toward more action. Indeed, during our twenty-plus minutes with the game, enemies came fast and numerous, with little breathing time between. There was one puzzle section in the middle, but the constant onslaught of enemies didn’t really give a sense of pacing...

Ian Milham, Dead Space 2's art director, tells us all about the new, the old, and the necromorph
Jun 22, 2010
Following up a sleeper hit like Dead Space is a hell of a task. Now that we know what to expect, Dead Space 2's got to be new enough to warrant our attention, but also has to retain the original's slimy, face-eating anticharm. Back at E3, Ian Milham, art director for both Dead Space and Dead Space 2, described the development team's plan of attack: upgraded controls, new weapons, a fleshed-out character, and more...

You'd think life would get easier after escaping a space station full of undead. Not this time
Jun 16, 2010
The original Dead Space was surprisingly awesome for the player, but main character Isaac really got screwed – if we were stranded in a space station full of terrifying flesh-ripping undead horrors, we’d really want something more than a nail gun to defend ourselves. Luckily, the developers of Dead Space 2 agree, and they’ve outfitted Mr Unlucky Spaceman with one of the coolest weapons we’ve seen in ages: the javelin gun...

New Necromorphs and other nasty surprises brought into the light
Jun 08, 2010
We’ve seen how Dead Space 2 plans to give the dark universe infested with Necromorphs a more epic-action-movie feel (only in certain moments, we’re promised), but we haven’t seen too much detail on the location, known as The Sprawl. One area we did see recently was a level set in a mine on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons. The mine is crumbly, creepy, and of course teeming with Necromorphs, including two varieties we hadn’t seen before: the Stalkers and the Crawlers...

In the Sprawl's Saturn-ring city, you're not alone, but you'll wish you were
Feb 19, 2010
Pre-production work on Dead Space 2 has only been official for less than six months, but it was never in serious doubt. Isaac Clarke’s first encounter with the alien virus that created the necromorphs was a hugely atmospheric blend of action shooter, with grim tones of survival horror. Admittedly, it was a survival horror in which you had enough bullets, and the exposition was clumsy.
