In popular media, however, they’re vicious aquatic bastards who like nothing better than to sneak up on unsuspecting swimmers and devour them as gruesomely as possible, preferably in front of an audience. ...

Crytek boss Cevat Yerli has explained why it's taken the developer so long to commit to making its games for consoles, as it will with its next, Crysis 2: it's perfectionism.

There was 2 to 3 years of technical research and development into consoles before development on Crysis 2 started," Yerli told Gamespot. "We had to make a technological breakthrough before we could commit to those quality bars."
Rumour Killers: Gears of War MMO? Crysis on Consoles? Aliens RPG Canned? (News)

TGR: 1. Could Epic be developing a Gears of War MMO? We all know the Gears of War universe is expanding every day, thanks to the huge success Gears 1 and 2 have received on the Xbox 360 this last couple of years. Gears of War has been a benchmark left by Epic for all shooters to achieve. There have been comics, action figures, and even plans for a movie based on the franchise, and the continued support by Epic for Gears 2 has kept the community alive. Apart from the obvious Gears of War 3, how else can Epic expand the franchise even further? How about an MMO?

2. Could Crysis be coming to consoles soon? If there is one game console gamers envy, it is none other than Crysis. The open-world shooter developed by Crytek Studios is probably the best-looking game so far. The only problem with it is that you need one hell of a rig to play at maximum settings and get the most out of this beast. Ever since its launch, there have been rumors that the game would one day make the jump to home consoles. One said it would be on Xbox 360 only, one said PS3, and another said both.

3. Has Sega pulled the plug on its Aliens RPG? The last few days haven't been the best for Japanese gaming giant, Sega. The company has announced losses across the board, is closing down arcades around the world, and will be cutting quite a few jobs, worldwide, too. We were hoping that the games in development either internally or externally wouldn't be affected, but according to this rumor, we may see some games being axed. The game that's making real noise now is Obsidian Entertainment's Aliens RPG, which is based on the sci-fi horror films of the past.

Gamezine: 'Crytek's admission that they are moving to console development excites Crysis fans, but the game isn't necessarily on the way to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

We reported on comments from Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli that their acquisition of Free Radical would speed up their move to consoles:

"This step will certainly bring us forward a bit faster to achieve our goal to develop high quality games on consoles."

He further commented that they'd of course be utilising their CryENGINE 2:

"[Free Radical] have a proven track record in developing great games on consoles and PC. This combined with our own CryENGINE technology and a very experienced team is more than perfect for us."

A couple of websites took this to mean that Crysis, the CryENGINE 2's show piece, would be coming to the PlayStation 3.'
Developer of Crysis Crytek recently purchased developer Free Radical for the specific purpose of accelerating Crytek's entry into development of console games.

While Seeley did say that work on CryENGINE 2 for console was proceeding well with quality exceeding the PC engine's medium-level settings at 720p, and that most assets would transition easily from the PC engine to the console engine, he was adamant that the company had yet to make the decision to actually port the award-winning game.
Every week they'll hunt down the juiciest stories and give their opinion on how legit they are.

Retro Studios working on Zelda spin-off

The Rumour: Surfer Girl claims that Retro Studios' (the team behind the Metroid Prime series) next game will be revealed at or around the time of E3 (which takes place in July) and shockingly is a spin-off from the Zelda series.

Verdict: This seems too far fetched to make up. What's most puzzling is the kind of game this supposed spin-off will be. We're putting money on an action/adventure game of a similar style to Retro's cancelled GameCube project Raven Blade.

Plausibility rating: 3/5

Killzone 2 missing 2008

The Rumour: Killzone 2 is without doubt the most hyped game in development for the PlayStation 3, but with that hype comes much pressure. So much pressure that it's not going to be shipped until it's completely ready - even if that means 2009.

Verdict: This latest Killzone 2 rumour comes from Surfer Girl but that doesn't automatically make it 100% legit. Sony undoubtedly will want Killzone 2 released this calendar year, but all isn't lost if it doesn't happen. We're sure Insomniac's Resistance 2 will be more than happy to step into Killzone's FPS shoes. Sony probably won't get another chance to make Killzone into a big franchise, so Guerrilla Games will likely get all the time it needs.

Plausibility rating: 4/5
Crysis and Far Cry developer Crytek is unveiling a cross-platform version of its latest technology at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month.

Unless you've recently been born, you'll know that the proprietary tech - CryEngine 2 - is the engine behind Crysis.

A select GDC audience will witness CryEngine 2 running on Xbox 360 and PS3, news which has already set our speculation (and common sense) hats in a twirl.

Surely this is indication that Crysis is definitely console ...
Even before the PC version released, rumours of a PS3 conversion of the stunning Crysis (developed by Far Cry creators Crytek) were rife, and not far off the mark if insiders at the studio are to be believed. The game looks to be a port of the PC original plus some extra modes and features, a kind of Crysis 1.5. Like the PC game you can expect a visual powerhouse; an open-world shooter that begins on a beautiful tropical island before things take a turn for the worse and aliens ...
Crytek's CryEngine 2 - which powers a little game known as Crysis - is to form the beating heart of Korean MMO The Day.

The Day is some way off - it's targeted for release in 2010 - but first info reveals it's a third-person action MMO for PC. Knowing that, it's not surprising that PvP will be a major focus of the title.

According to Reloaded, the game will feature a unique, immersive story that's set in the near ...
The much anticipated Crysis single-player demo was released for download Friday night, and naturally we had to have a go at it. Most of us (PC editor excluded) lack any significant horsepower under our desks, so its DX9 and low settings or nothing. To our delight, our mediocre systems are at least capable of rendering Crysis intricate jungle setting well enough to play.

Our chugging machines, however, cant produce anything akin to the quality of the low setting DX9 screen ...
Crysis dev Crytek has revealed that a success for the super-hyped shooter on PC would urge it to seriously consider delivering console versions of the title.

"...first we want to see how the game is received, publicly and critically... We believe it will be received at least as strong as Far Cry. I hope personally a 5% average increase... That would give us an argument to [say], 'OK, let's see how we can bring Crysis to consoles,'" Crytek boss Cevat Yerli has told Game Informer in ...

Rock Band with 3 seperate votes took first...just barely ahead of Mass Effect who placed second with 2 votes. However, the surprise comes with the games that took the rest of the places:

Bioshock
Burnout Paradise
Call of Duty 4
Crysis
Halo 3
Killzone 2
LittleBigPlanet
Madden NFL 08
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Virtua Fighter 5
World in Conflict

Gamecriticsawards.com even broke down the tally further and the console with the most wins was...Xbox 360 (acquiring 11 wins), followed in second by the Playstation 3 (aquiring 8 votes). Third place was the PC (with 4 votes), and tied for fourth was both the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Oddly enough, the PSP was last...not even getting one game on the list this year!
"Theoretically, anything could run anywhere," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told UK PC Gamer magazine when asked if he still believed the first-person shooter couldn't run on console.

Yesterday's openly salvo of GameTrailers.com's "E3 Business & Media Summit Awards" offered up nominations and winners across various categories, such as Best Racer, Best Action Adventure, Best PSP Game, and Best DS Game. And, to be honest, the winners and loses didn't really throw up many surprises.

However, today's second round of E3 Awards coverage may well stoke the fires of fervent fanboy fanaticism. And why?

Oh, because the Best First-Person Shooter category does not include nominations for Halo 3 and Killzone 2, because Sony comes under fire on various fronts in terms of Most Disappointing, and neither Mass Effect nor Assassin's Creed is given a nomination nod for Best Graphics ¿ while a revamped PC port of Gears of War certainly is.
There has been a job post on Crytek's official site looking for a PS3 developer for a few months now, however when asked about it Crytek declined to comment.

The job opening itself may be all the fuel Playstation 3 fans need, however ripten.com would like to add some more.
This is not Far Cry. The nanosuit your character wears in this spiritual successor turns you into a full-blown superhero, and it renders you near-unstoppable.

That means theyve had to make your task exponentially harder to compensate, of course. This time youre taking on whole armies, fleets of vehicles, aliens the size of volcanoes and stranger things still. The resulting conflict is action of a higher order of magnitude. Every ten seconds something explodes, and a Crysis explosion is a hell ...
The stunning technology that Crytek has developed to power its forthcoming first-person shooter Crysis has been revealed afresh in a new-ish trailer released.

We call it new-ish, because its actually the CryEngine 2 trailer the developer was showing at this year's GDC. So, you may have seen it previously, but it's now available in a direct-feed version which we've uploaded into our video player. And if you haven't seen it before, all we can say is that it's a must-see as what's on display is ...
Some of us pour all our money into consoles, not massive computer updates including new graphics cards or operating systems. What do we know so far?

First, thats not how you spell “Crisis.”

It is if youre Crytek, creators of the rather beautiful, original PC version of Far Cry. It is, in fact, a rather clever spelling in ...
This amazing gameplay footage from PC super-shooter Crysis shouldn't show you anything new - unless you've been living in a box under the sea for the past two years - but it'll still blow your mind from here to next Tuesday with some truly gobsmacking jungle-based blasting and a teasing glimpse of the brittle ice-world at the centre of Crysis' pacific island locale. Hit the movies tab and enjoy.

Crysis, the spiritual successor to Far Cry and one of the most visually impressive games shown at this year's E3, could make the shift from PC to next-gen consoles, according to developer Crytek.
