PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Activision Scores With Monster Hit TheStreets report: "Video-games publisher Activision remained firmly in the saddle as the leading video games publisher in January for the third consecutive month.

The video game publisher enjoyed solid sales from its monster hit, Call of Duty 4. Meanwhile Sony's hardware console PlayStation 3 moved ahead of the Xbox 360 and closed the gap against the Wii.

Activision and Sony's performance stood out in the overall video-games industry, which saw growth shrank last month compared with the same period a year ago".

PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - COD4 PS3 Feature Patch Update fourtwozero on the IW forums writes:

"The Xbox 360 feature patch got through test a bit faster than the PS3 one, so it was sent off to Microsoft for certification today, but I wanted to let you know the PS3 feature patch isn't far behind in terms of going to Sony.

So you can expect a similar announcement for the PS3 Feature Patch heading to cert in the near future (no I don't have an ETA).

Some good news is that the patch will include among the other things, a new quick mute option so you can easily mute players as quickly as you can call in an airstrike, by pulling up the scoreboard and choosing the player you want to mute whether in-game or in-lobby.

As well as the Recently Met Players, and all other features (New Kill Cams, Improved Sniper Accuracy, etc.)

Just wanted to you guys to know what's happening on the PS3 side not just the 360."

PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - PS3 v1.1 Patch on COD4: Connect to worldwide servers, good or bad? Product Reviews writes: "Following on from our post about the recent v1.1 patch for Call of Duty 4 on the Sony PS3, while we had no details on what changes this update made to COD4, we now see a few changes.

Gamers have reported and I have also noticed that connecting to games is much faster, this is due to now being able to connect to worldwide servers on COD4, but is this a good idea.

Some gamers are finding that they get dropped out of games as their connection is too slow, they put this down to connecting to servers worldwide, personally I am finding getting on games much faster and all is ok, although the Tiscali P2P problem is still around.

PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Rambo compared to Call of Duty 4 The Arizona Daily Star compared Rambo to Call of Duty 4, and if you've played the game you should know that's quite a complement. The reviewer, Phil Villarreal, calls the movie "a nasty, Call of Duty 4 style shoot 'em up that kicks down the door, rips out your throat and inserts a Claymore where your jugular used to be," and judging by the general consensus that's probably one of the best things that has been and probably will be said about Rambo.

PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Activision: PS3 Development Not a Problem Activision has stated that, while other companies may be struggling to develop for the PlayStation 3, it has no such problem.

Speaking to investors during Activision's earnings conference call for the financial quarter ending 31/12/07, Michael J. Griffith, president & CEO of Activision's Publishing Unit, said:

"What you are seeing with many publishers is they are unable to simultaneously develop and launch on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Instead, they develop and release one SKU at a time or they simply don't release a PS3 SKU at all. Call of Duty 4 represents the best-in-class next-generation development, making it the number one selling title of all time on the PS3."

"Over the past year, our central technology group has created a proprietary set of tools for next-gen development that has enabled our developers to address the challenging PS3 architecture in efficient ways. Our tools allow us to identify performance bottlenecks in the PS3 and focus our effort in a targeted way to improve performance that would otherwise without these tools simply be a trial-and-error approach."

While Griffith is clearly trying to send out the message that Activision is on top of developing for the PS3, the phrases "challenging PS3 architecture" and "performance bottlenecks in the PS3" still stand out.

Griffith also noted the PS3 as "a technically challenging platform where many continue to struggle".

PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - More from Activision's conference call: New CoD, James Bond game Here are some more highlights from Activision's conference call with financial analysts earlier today:

- As expected a new Call of Duty game is due for release in the 2009 fiscal year (again most likely this fall). No other details were revealed except that PS2 and Wii platforms will join the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms for the next game in the shooter series.

- As usual for Activision, the company will not release any new games for the current fiscal quarter that ends on March 31. The next quarter will see the release of the game based on Dreamworks's CGI movie Kung Fu Panda along with more downloadable content for Guitar Hero III and Call of Duty 4. The company will also release games later in the year based on another Dreamworks CGI movie Madagascar II.

- The James Bond game is still due for release this fall, around the time of the new movie's release. No other details on the game were announced.

PS3 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Was COD4 Really '07's Top Seller? Activision said Friday that Call of Duty 4 was the top-selling game of 2007, with unit sales of 7 million. But Microsoft said earlier this year that Halo 3 sold 8.1 million 2007¿ so who was on top?

A press announcement made rounds Friday, coming out of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Activision. The publisher trumpeted how Call of Duty 4, released in November 2007, has sold 7 million units worldwide, which makes it the "#1 Title in Units Worldwide for Calendar 2007." Activision cites figures from NPD Group, GfK Group and Chart Track.

But you may recall that Microsoft announced in early January that September's Halo 3 had sold 8.1 million units worldwide. So that would appear to be the top-selling title of '07, according to Microsoft anyway.

So which one was the top-seller?
