Dropped by Activision in the course of its merger with Vivendi, EA has now picked up Tim Schafer/Double Fine's hard rocking new title..."
But could it be little more than an error? Or has the title finally found a new publisher?

"As noted in my previous post, it seems almost every near complete Sierra game that Activision Blizzard decided not to publish has a new home. Except one: Brutal Legend.

While doing my reporting on "Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena" and "Ghostbusters" (info here), I checked in on everyone's favorite heavy metal action game starring Jack Black and, well, the news isn't great."

Kombo writes "Recently, Activision merged with Sierra. In the process of this merger, several games where put out to pasture, as a cost cutting measure. Brütal Legend was among one of the more prominent titles released. Since the game is being helmed by Tim Schafer of Grim Fandango and Psychonauts fame, it was a forgone conclusion that they would find another publisher.

One of the primary rumors centered around the game finding a snug new home at Electronic Arts. Gamasutra had the chance to sit down with EA's CEO John Riccitiello and discuss this very topic..."

TGR - "Of course, the main problem with continuing the Halo franchise is that Bungie, the studio behind the series' success, is now an independent group and not interested in continuing to develop games in the Halo universe. That doesn't mean that Master Chief and friends will quietly fade away though, as Microsoft still holds the rights to all things Halo, and would like nothing more to keep the franchise running ad infinitum."
We also know that it's not going to be published by Vivendi or by MTV. But who is going to put out this Jack Black anthem? According to at least one source the game's future publisher is none other than Electronic Arts.
That idea also fits with what I heard from a good industry source who told me "Brutal Legend" was close to a deal with a company that's not a traditional publisher."

In the latest post on Double Fine's site, though, Schafer admits people have been hounding him for more details - and he complies, providing a full-size closeup of the dead weevil.

Clearly, Jack Black wants to talk about "Brutal Legend." The man wore a shirt adorned with the upcoming heavy metal action game's logo during the MTV Movie Awards two weeks ago in Los Angeles.

Most of the folks sticking microphones in his face at the awards largely avoided the topic. And that's too bad because so little has been heard about the game since it was announced through Game Informer last year as developer Tim Schafer's next project.

Thankfully, MTV News' own Kim Stolz, however, did get Black to chat ever so briefly about his shirt and what it means. They got a tiny, mini-update about the game.

"Personally, I don't ever pay even an ounce of attention when a game launches its official website. There usually isn't any point. 99% of the time what you'll find is a decent piece of art and the game's name in fancy script on the front page. From there you'll have the opportunity to either listen to the developer tell you why their game is the be all end all of consumer software, or read about it.

This time however, you should pay just a little attention. Tim Schafer's newest game project Brutal Legend, starring Jack Black, has just launched its website and boy is it a doozy; by far and away the best game website I've ever had the pleasure of navigating."

Tim Schafer and Jack Black. What a match. The latter has molded a career from escalating rock fandom into an extreme comedic art form, whilst the former creates comedic gaming masterpieces that induce the fervent fandom usually reserved for rock gods. One so adored, paired with another so well versed in adoration can only be a good thing. And has led to this good thing.

Now, for those unfamiliar with Schafer's work, shame on you. Printing a three page biography of the man that ...

Now product listings on GameStop's online store are suggesting that the publisher is bringing two more of its anticipated games to Nintendo's portable. As we revealed last week, Brutal Legend, the next game to come out of Psychonauts creator, Tim Schafers, twisted brain box will be a cartoon style, demon slaying affair with a rock and roll edge.

Jack Black will be lending his vocal talents to voice the lead roll in what looks to be a cross between Mad Max and Death Race 2000, with a horde of creatures from the underworld thrown in for good measure.

We've still not received word on what platforms Brutal Legend will be appearing ...
