Our favorite part? Lobbing a grenade that literally blows the enemy in half. Great in itself, but seeing all the gory detail in super-slo-mo AND getting the chance to inspect the separated body parts afterwards makes it even better - if a little unsettling. The slow-motion will also kick in if you've nailed a tough shot, and you'll unlock achievements if you bag enough.
But all the good mechanics can't make up for what seems to be some fairly restrictive level designs so far. There are plenty of levels still under wraps, but it's odd that Gearbox chose to show off some very linear missions if the rest of the game has more to offer. And the indoor locations are really dark, so it's hard to make out who you're shooting at, while the use of barriers and blockades to prevent you steering off course limits your flanking options. But Gearbox are working on these issues.
There are some great ideas tucked away in Hell's Highway, but the impassable hedges and fences that border each location feel especially jarring after the simple-yet-effective masking techniques found in Call of Duty 4. Promising then, but work still to be done.
