Video Game Writers: Back in 2003, Ubisoft released a quirky action-adventure game (arent they all quirky?) for GameCube, PS2 and Xbox called Beyond Good & Evil. The game was an amazing amalgam of puzzle-solving, stealth and contained a smart story and memorable characters. Unfortunately it suffered the same fate as most hard-to-describe action-adventure titles (see: Psychonauts) and sales werent great. Which is business speak for saying it instantly developed an avid cult following. In 2008, Ubisoft confirmed they would be making a sequel and here we are 3 years later.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development, but won't be appearing on this generation of consoles. Speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, Michel Ancel, creator of Rayman and Beyond Good Evil, has elaborated as to why. We can't say it's really only next-gen. he said, We need to reconsider the target platform because I have a very specific idea of that game. On high-end PCs we can already play the game, but it's very hard to say 'we'll cut that, that and that to make it fit into another platform'. On top of that you have the interface which is another question. Yes, we need to take the time to find the right target for this game.

For next year, the company is expecting to post further growth in both sales and current operating income. That apparently means trimming some fat from its game line-up, though, as the company has terminated some unspecified projects. We may not know which games received the dreaded axe for some time, but the long-dormant I Am Alive and Beyond Good & Evil 2 seem like prime suspects.
