Beowulf: The Game

There's some satisfying sword-swinging to be had, but it's hard to recommend based solely on that, especially when the recent Conan release offers a far better sword-and-sandal epic.

I have not yet had the pleasure of playing Conan, but I have to say that this game was in my opinion awesome. My only wish is that they had gotten the voices from the movie. John Malkovich's and Anthony Hopkins' voices are way too recognizable to be replaced! Anyways, the swordplay was fun, and the idea of choosing between being a rageful killing machine and an honorable thane that any man would fight for is a sweet addition. But what i also really enjoy that may be a turn-off for many is leading the men in song as they row the boat. And i'm not gonna lie, trying to fight off those witch-daughters was hard at first. But if you keep trying to kill them instead of letting them jump on you (for those of you playing with only your free hand) it's actually quite easy. At least on the easiest difficulty setting.

I imagine I will soon rent Conan, though if it's too much like God of War, I probably won't like it that much. Anyhoo, alibabba checkin' out:

Right off the bat, publisher Ubisoft's adaptation of Beowulf - based on the upcoming Robert Zemeckis film, which in turn is based on a centuries-old epic poem - commits an unpardonable sin in the eyes of literary types. You might already be familiar with the story's progression: Beowulf, a mighty Scandinavian warrior, battles and slays a man-eating monster named Grendel with his bare hands. He then beheads Grendel's vengeful, horrific mother and - finally - dies fighting a dragon some 30 years » Read Full Beowulf: The Game preview
