The game has received huge critical praise already since its Japanese release, including a 10/10 in Edge and a 40/40 from Japanese gaming bible Famitsu. And the game will be released in Europe during the first week in January.

Sega is well aware of the of the long loading times that plagues the PS3 version of Bayonetta, and are looking into a the best possible way to fix the problem before the North American version of the game is released.

An inquiry made over at the official Platinum Games boards received a response from Sega that "they were well aware of this issue and are working on a solution."

Another Sega representative made Sega's stance even clearer:

PSX Extreme writes: " As most of you know, while Bayonetta is currently available in Japan, it won't be on US store shelves until January 5. But perhaps this delay will prove beneficial for PlayStation 3 owners...

The debate concerning this hotly anticipated action title revolves around the fact that developer Platinum Games first designed the game for the Xbox 360, after which Sega handled the PS3 port. Not surprisingly, this has resulted in a lesser frame rate for the PS3 version, as reflected in some Japanese publications like Famitsu, which awarded the 360 version a perfect 40/40 score and gave the PS3 a version a 38/40. But perhaps these extra few months will give Sega America some time to even things out a bit. A reader has sent us an e-mail from a Sega America representative, who hints that we should maybe look for some improvements in the PS3 version when it arrives in North America. Essentially, the rep says that when the game was pushed back, the producers asked them "to spend more time on making sure the frame rate would be as comparable to that of the Xbox 360 as possible given the amount of time, budget, and testing available." Now, he does admit that the 360 version still has the better frame rate but the difference isn't quite so pronounced, and other aspects of the game are basically identical."
Given that her hair is black, it shouldn't come as a surprise that her clothing is black too.
Her clothing has always been black, but her hair certainly wasn't! Early design images show the character as a blonde and even redhead! Have a look for yourself.
Spencer found something very interesting over at the Gamestop website. The PS3 version of Bayonetta is priced at $54.99, while the 360 version costs the full $59.99.

While it's not a huge difference, the reduced price may be in light of the widespread concern that the game was developed for the Xbox 360 by Platinum Games and then ported over to Sony's console by SEGA. Or it could be a Gamestop and Amazon decision."

Destructoid: Well, there's no accounting for taste. Despite the fact that Bayonetta's lead platform is the Xbox 360 and that the PS3 version of the game is a somewhat sub-par port by Sega, Japanese gamers have spoken, and decided that the PS3 version was worth buying twice as much as the better version. Oh Japan, you and your crazy xenophobia.

There have been numerous video comparisons of Bayonetta PS3 vs Xbox 360. To the naked eye, one can tell the difference between the lighting of the game, some texture problems, and which version appears to running at a smoother framerate. In each and every category, the Xbox 360 is the clear winner. With the game clearly designed for Microsoft's machine, Platinum Games specifically designed Bayonetta to run on the Xbox 360 hardware -- not the PlayStation 3 hardware. A technical comparison has been conducted which shows clear evidence of how the game stacks up on each console, respectively.

Update 2: First 15 minutes of the game available, at 30 fps though. Still more than enough to confirm that Kamiya is utterly crazy.

Despite being (mildly) inferior, the PS3 version of Bayonetta has sold over twice the number of copies the (slightly) superior Xbox 360 original has on its opening day…

The PS3 version sold a total of 93,000 copies, whilst the Xbox 360 version sold a mere 45,000, despite scoring a whole two points higher in a suspect Famitsu review.

If even a botched port can manage twice the sales of the supposedly perfect Xbox version it seems Microsoft's Japanese position may be even worse than previously established…

"Kotaku columnist Tim Rogers brings word that store after store in Tokyo is selling out of the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta. But why?

The Xbox 360 version was awarded a perfect 40/40 score from Japanese game mag, while the PS3 version was not - it received a 38/40. The above picture is from the Yodobashi Camera in West Shinjuku. The tag on the game (??????) means "Sold Out"

Tim says the same sell-outs were visible at other Yodobashi branches as well.

There could be several reasons for this, one of which could be that fewer copies of the Xbox 360 version were ordered by shops unaware that the Xbox 360 Bayonetta was the lead platform. Or maybe lots of people are buying it."
I was surprised to find that even in this mode, you still have a good amount of control over Bayonetta, and can make full use of Witch Time and the character's two combat styles. Still, easy/automatic mode is definitely easy, and to a certain extent automatic.
The demo features The Angel Metropolis level. As an added bonus for PS3 owners, the stage featured in the PS3 demo is an extended version of the same level available in the 360 demo.

Initially, there weren't many themes available but yesterday Google released 130+ new customisations that include designs from Oscar de la Renta, Anita Kunz, Tom Sachs, Kate Spade, Donna Karan and Kid Robot.

But what really caught our eye was the inclusion of Bayonetta and Ratchet & Clank Future 2 themes in the latest batch of updates..."

After initial reports out of Japan that the PlayStation 3 version of Bayonetta does not appear to be on the same technical level as the Xbox 360 version -- suffering from frame rate hiccups, for example -- and an explanation from developer Platinum Games that Sega actually ported Bayonetta to the PlayStation 3, I was curious to ask the development team about that process at Tokyo Game Show.

Bayonetta will make a PS3 and Xbox 360 playable appearance at this month's TGS, but Platinum Games explains why there might be differences between each versions.

Some gamers have been worried over how the performance of the PlayStation 3 version of Bayonetta would turn out, especially following a limited showing of the game and a negative report from 1up.com

The Xbox 360 version of Platinum Games' title had been the only build shown until GamesCom in Cologne, where the PS3 version demonstrated a slightly shaky framerate. However, the developer has been adamant that both titles would be nigh on identical by the time of their day and date release in the Spring of 2010.

The developer's president and CEO, Tatsuya Minami, has now approached the question of the game's multiplatform development before its appearance at this year's Tokyo Games Show.

"Can you believe that the Tokyo Game Show is mere weeks away? Sega's ready, laying out its plans for the show, offering a list of games that will be on display at the Makuhari Messe.

The list includes a list of titles we expect to be playable, like Bayonetta and The House of the Dead: Overkill, plus some we're not expecting to be playable. That includes games like Yakuza 4-it's highlighted on the official site, but not listed under Sega's lineup, curiously-and End of Eternity (aka Resonance of Fate), but you never know."

Bayonetta is SEGA's upcoming 3rd Person Action title, and it's being released in Japan during October. It was initially thought that it would follow shortly after in the West, but last week it was announced that it would be delayed until 2010.

At the time, SEGA cited translation problems, and an abundance of titles from other publishers. However, speaking at GamesCom, Antoine Molant, the Senior Brand Manager claimed it was for different reasons.

From its inception, Platinum Games declared its games were being engineered with worldwide appeal. MadWorld struggled to find an audience earlier this year for reasons Sega hasn't yet figured out, according to recently appointed Sega president and COO Mike Hayes.

But Hayes doesn't believe Platinum Games' next release, the hyperkinetic Bayonetta from Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, will face the problems at release.

"I think there are clearly development differences between the two," said Hayes in a phone interview with me earlier this week. "On MadWorld itself, we're researching it as we speak to try and identify some of the causes behind that. I think Bayonetta comes from a background and a genre that's been already proven to be popular. I think with MadWorld we were trying to be so many different things probably all at once that maybe we pushed the envelope a bit too far."
The alternative was too risky, the company told Kotaku.

Sega West president Mike Hayes said that theories about the economic recession forcing so many games to be delayed out of the remainder of 2009 were wrong in the case of Bayonetta...(follow link)

Mike Hayes, President and COO of Sega West, explained the delay with the following statement, "Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential."

1UP interviewed Kamiya at the time, and have rarely seen a game developer so happy. He was cracking inside jokes with other Platinum staff, making bold claims about his game, and seemed more interested in having fun than doing traditional bullet point interviews. It was a flashy event, complete with fireworks over the ocean, made particularly meaningful for Kamiya because just short of 15 years before that, he applied for a job at Sega and got turned down.

PlayStation LifeStyle writes, "In just over a week, PlayStation LifeStyle will be reporting live from the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). We've been trying to get a handle on the plethora of PlayStation games that will be on display from June 2 through June 4, and it's quite astounding. If you weren't excited about the prospect of new announcements for the PlayStation brand, what if we told you there will be over 75 unique PlayStation games on display - that we know about?! While many are multiplatform titles (though the best still appear to be Sony-exclusive), it is a large increase from last year's showing."

Platinum Games' debut title MadWorld was released first in Western markets, so we were a bit concerned when word recently broke about a Fall 2009 Japanese release for the developer's second title, Bayonetta. All concerns were cleared today when Sega confirmed that the PS3/Xbox 360 multiplatform action title will see a simultaneous worldwide release. That's Fall 2009, everywhere.

The announcement came today at a press event in Tokyo. Sega showed off its upcoming lineup. Most of the games were Japan-centric, but the three main titles, Bayonetta, End of Eternity, and Puyo Puyo 7, are all probably worldwide titles.
