Speaking to IncGamers, Alex Hutchinson, creative designer of Army of Two: The 40th Day has said that the game sets up a sequel opportunity.
TVGB: "When the original Army of Two was released last year, it was easy enough to pass it off as just another Gears of War clone, but really it wasn't according to EA Montreal's Alex Hutchinson. He offered a few more thoughts towards the problems of the shooter genre when we asked him what it was like coming from Maxis, the developers of Spore, to a more conventional game like Army of Two: The 40th Day. "I think in the shooter genre or RPG genre, or any of these established genres people get stuck in a rut, they're inspired by other games that are the same. So everyone right now making a shooter wants to be Call of Duty, or every time you make a third-person shooter, everyone says you're Gears of War, which isn't good.""
TVGB: "Moving from the unique title Spore to a more conventional one like Army of Two: The 40th Day must have been an interesting experience for EA Montreal's Alex Hutchnsion. We caught up with the ex-Maxis dev on the show floor of Eurogamer Expo 2009 on Saturday to get his views on the original title now that he had been tasked with making the sequel a must-have. "I thought it was a very brave game to make," he began as we watched over The 40th Day's zoo level being played out in front of us, "Everyone at first kinda thought it was a Gears of War clone, but I really don't think that it is. I think the reason it sold well is that the core fantasy is very strong, the idea of you and me against the world, you and your best friend.""

However, with their seeming dedicating to continue with new (well, relatively new) IP's, it seems that EA could show off the sequel soon; if a rumour in the Official PlayStation Magazine UK are anything to go by."

Ripten reports that Variety have recently interviewed EA games label president Frank Gibeau and Dead Space executive producer Glenn Schofield, who revealed that there are sequels in the works for some of EA's biggest games. Gibeau stated that there is a "sequel idea planned" for Army of Two and a Battlefield: Bad Company. We can only hope that the sequel for Army of Two is called "Army of TwoTwo (TuTu)". The NPD Group has released the latest 360 software sales figures for the U.S.A., and there are a couple of surprises in there. While no one's going to be confused by a top three consisting of GTAIV, Call of Duty IV and Madden, the games in fourth and fifth place are Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Army of Two, respectively. If nothing else this comprehensively proves that Americans really, really like guns.
Electronic Arts always seem to get the sh!t@y end of the stick when being discussed in the gaming community. Not least because of their aggressive buyout of top developers such as Pandemic, Bullfrog and such like, but also the tendency for them to invest huge amounts of money in acquiring licenses only to produce a bunch of shovelware that sits atop the festive gaming charts year in year out.
With all the news about MGS4, many gamers have overlooked all the other great content that we can look forward to this week on the PlayStation Network.
