The cola wars used to provide the best example we had of a functioning free market. Whether you bled red for Coca-Cola or were true red, white and blue for Pepsi, most people had a preference and no one really could argue that they were all that different. It was a perfect competition.

These days, the battle for taste rages between Sony and Microsoft, between PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. "
Like Paris Hilton without a camera nearby or C3-PO without plucky sidekick R2-D2, Armored Core 4 is a fantastic giant mech construction sim left incomplete because it just can't find its reason for living - a decent action game. There are a gazillion destructive weapons to bolt onto your rig: bazookas, plasma cannons, sniper guns, energy swords, guided missiles... and even more standard parts, ranging from various heads and legs to missile-jamming ECM generators. You have to monitor each part's ...
When a series has 10 or so games under its belt, and more on the way, one might imagine that there arent many seasoned gamers who havent given it a go at some point in their lives. Yet, as we prepared for the newest entry in the Armored Core series – Armored Core 4 - we stumbled upon just such a gamer lurking in our midst. A curious specimen, to be sure. After some briefly probing the veracity of his claims (which totally did not involve mocking him, questioning his gamerhood, or actually ...
Most remarkable is the review of Prey, that has been in stores for some time in U.S. and Europe now, but is new in Japan.

The game achieves high scores, with three times a eight and even one nine, having a total score of 33/40. (Famitsu always reviews with 4 different people) Do you still understand the people over there?

The full list with all rates:

There's only so much rusty machinery you can fit inside a hangar, as the saying goes (or maybe doesn't go. It's not actually our saying). But Armored Core 4 - actually the 13th or so entry in this long-running giant robot blowstuffupathon series manages to fit more than most. We took the PS3 version out of its hangar (although there's also an Xbox 360 model in the works) and onto some seriously bleak battlefields - then made them bleaker by exploding everything we could.

When the PlayStation 3 goes on sale in Japan November 11, six games will definitely be available: Genji: Days of the Blade, Mah-Jong Fight Club Online, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target In Sight, Resistance: Fall of Man, Sega Golf Club featuring the Miyazato Family, and--wait for it--Ridge Racer 7. Sony also confirmed Armored Core 4 would arrive sometime in November.

In December, Sony has locked down a trio of games: F1 Championship (aka Formula One 06), Gran Turismo HD, and MotorStorm. Three more carry a general "winter 2006" release date in Japan: Need for Speed Carbon, Enchant Arm, and the railroad sim Railfan. Another pair will ship during "2006": Sonic the Hedgehog and Fatal Inertia, though the later is only "projected" to make that vague release window.

According to Sony, 2007 will see at least 12 more PS3 titles come to market across the Pacific. Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Monster Kingdom: Unknown Realms, The Eye of Judgment, and Wangan Midnight will all arrive in the "spring," while Everybody's Golf 5 and Warhawk will land in the "summer." Other games confirmed for the year are Afrika (working title), Coded Arms: Assault, and the much-awaited Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Sony listed a sextet of several high-profile titles with the most nebulous release date of all, "TBD." Those included Shirokishi, fl0w (working title), Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War, Devil May Cry 4, and Final Fantasy XIII.

With the developer's other mech-based game, Chromehounds, making its debut this past summer, fans of From Software's robotic tendencies got good news today, as Sega announced that it will publish Armored Core 4 in North America. The company estimated a retail release of the title to fall during the spring of 2007.

"From Software is a very talented team that specialize in developing mech-based combat games," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, Sega of America, Inc. "Building on the success of Chromehounds, we believe that Armored Core 4 will deliver an action-packed experience that will not only cater to the diehard fans, but will attract new fans to the mech-based combat genre."
Sega announced today that they'll be releasing the reigning king of giant robot combat Armored Core 4 on both 360 and PS3 in Spring 2007. Hopefully, the nimble laser-sword wielding mechs of Armored Core will make a nice counterpoint to the lumbering juggernauts of Chromehounds. It's not that we didn't dig Chromehounds, but we can't ignore the complaints we've heard that the robots in it were slow and cumbersome - an assessment we're inclined to agree with, in ...

The Xbox 360 version of Armored core 4 has according to PS3focus.nl been cancelled. The series producer and From Software CEO Naotoshi Zin stated that this decision was due to a recent contract with Sony entertainment to keep the Armored Core series PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Here's a list of 19 of 27 confirmed playable PS3 titles. The publisher for each game is listed in parentheses.
Railfan (Ongakukan)

Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom)

Fatal Inertia (Koei)

Blade Storm (Koei)

Mahjong Taikai IV (Koei)

Coded Arms Assault (Konami Digital Entertainment)

Genji (SCEJ)

Formula One World Championship (SCEJ)

Heavenly Sword (SCEJ)

Lair (SCEJ)

MotorStorm (SCEJ)

Resistance Fall of Man (SCEJ)

The Eye of Judgment (SCEJ)

Warhawk (SCEJ)

Gran Turismo Series (SCEJ)

Minna no Golf 5 (aka Hot Shots Golf, SCEJ)

Ridge Racer (Bandai Namco Games)

Gundam Target in Sight (Bandai Namco Games)

Armored Core 4 (From Software)

All but the first game were previously announced. Given its publisher (and title), the first game is likely a train simulation game of some form.

The remaining 8 titles are currently a mystery, so we encourage wild speculation.

Sony will also have a theater in its booth which will show video footage of a total of 35 titles. We presume there will be some overlap with the playable titles and the video-only titles, but Sony wasn't clear about the matter.
