"Eden Games is making some much needed control, camera and inventory changes to "Alone in the Dark" before it arrives on PlayStation 3.

These changes are in direct response to criticisms of the Xbox 360 version. At the Leipzig Games Convention, Eurogamer reported news of a patch so Xbox 360 owners could enjoy the same changes.

While checking out the tweaked "Alone in the Dark" in a San Francisco hotel yesterday, game designer Emile Morel couldn't explicitly promise such a patch was coming."

A couple weeks ago French publisher Infogrames reported its own first quarter fiscal results, revealing a 91 percent rise in sales, which was driven in large part by a "strong recovery" of the U.S. business (i.e. Infogrames' subsidiary Atari). Atari has issued a statement to Gamesindustry.biz about the recent reviews of Alone in the Dark. The company said that it's happy with UK reviews of AITD, but refused to comment when asked about the legal rumours that have started appearing on the web.

"We're happy with the review scores in the UK," a spokesperson explained. "We believe the game speaks for itself."

However, they then promptly pulled the review, and accusations of shady dealings were levelled against the site by Atari, who said that press copies had only been sent out the day before (the review has since been reinstated, and the 3/10 stands). The german videogame site 4players.de reviewed the new 'Alone in the Dark' game and gave 68%. As we know that's quite a low score and influences your decision to buy the game or not. 4players said that 'Alone in the Dark' has a lame story and bad dialogue besides some technical issues like clipping and shitty artificial intelligence.
Atari wasn't happy to hear that and decided to threaten 4players to force them to take the review offline. Atari says that the review is based on a pirate downloaded version and is only set online to make profit through clicks. Atari wants to sue 4players about 50.000 Euros; if they do not take the review offline.

A downloadable demo for the Xbox 360 edition of Alone in the Dark will not arrive until the title nears launch, according to a forum post from Atari Europe community administrator Tenebra.

Tenebra had previously indicated that a demo was in the planning stages for PC, X360 and PS3, with a debut planned for early May. Claiming they were given incorrect information, the administrator later clarified that an Xbox 360 demo would hit around the game's release, with "no confirmations on other formats."

VideoGamer.com reports that Atari's quarter three financial results have revealed a number of new titles currently lined-up for release in the publishers coming fiscal year (ending March 31, 2009):

"The biggest is one we already know about, Alone in the Dark, which should release in May for Xbox 360, PC, PS2 and Wii. A PS3 version is to follow at a later date. Alone in the Dark is to be joined in the summer by PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 FPS Legendary.

New to our knowledge is Airborne Rangers for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. There's no info, but it could be a new game based on a game of the same name released in the late 80s by MicroProse. The French Newspaper Les Echos has an exclusive interview with Patrick Lelue where they talk about Alone in the Dark which is set to be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii and PS2. In this interview Lelue reveals that Alone in the Dark will be released in May, giving it a different release date shown on Nintendo's recent American release date list.

Atari: No Delay to Alone In The Dark (News)

In a short statement to Total Video Games on January 11, an Atari UK spokesperson denied the reports that Alone In The Dark had been delayed to September, and dismissed them as 'rumours'.

Sure, you know Alone in the Dark 5 is coming. You also probably know that, while the protagonist's name is Edward Carnaby, he has absolutely nothing in common with the original, more dapper Carnaby of the first game. But what else do you know about the game? Not much, I'll tell you, because for a game that was supposed to be coming in March (itself a delay from a 2007 release), we've not heard much new info for a while. So don't act too surprised, then, at news it's been delayed for a second time, this time to September. Bummer.

What was once a teaser web site for Atari's horror title Alone in the Dark has now been updated with additional media and info, giving us a better idea of what to expect from the game. Also, thanks to a brief word from the official Atari Europe Forums, the release date for the game was narrowed down:

"The current release date is financial year 2007 - which, for Atari, ends on 31st March 2008. There isn't a set date as yet, the game looks pretty cool and in a very good shape as of the last version I've seen (beginning of Dec), so all very very promising."

"Atari Australia seems to have its wires crossed. According to the publisher's website, Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation came out 11 months ago! I must have missed the press release on that one. And the review copy. And the reviews.

Yes, I realise it's a small mistake, but I think because of it AITD is appearing on the front page of the site along with The Witcher and Jericho, two games that came out weeks (or months) ago. Might cause a bit of confusion when punters go looking for it. Mind you, $119.95 is quite a price tag".

Atari has just started its viral marketing campaign for Alone in the Dark as the mysterious website www.centraldark.com was launched. Atari sent out a press release with nothing more than this link. On the website, you can view a trailer which tells the story of what mystery lies under the ground of Central Park in New York. Beneath the trailer, however, there is a countdown which reaches zero on December 13.

Surely, this was all intended for Alone in the Dark, since Atari is the publisher of the game and the game itself is situated in and around Central Park. But what could happen on December 13? View the trailer yourself after the jump.

PS2 and Wii have joined the platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) set to receive the new Alone in the Dark game from Atari.

So, PS2 and Wii versions are being developed by Hydravision (Eden Games is handling the other versions), and feature the same storyline as the previously announced outings for the revival of the venerable survival horror series.

According to Atari, PS2 and Wii versions of Alone in the Dark push respective hardware "hard", "incorporating many of the gameplay features found in the Xbox 360 version".

Atari has told Eurogamer this afternoon that the PS3 version of Alone in the Dark hasn't been delayed after all, but will launch simultaneously with the PC and 360 games.

Despite of messages saying Alone in the Dark not coming out until 2008, Atari today made an end of this rumors. The game is now officially scheduled for Q4 2007, meaning the game has some delay from the original date, but it is still scheduled for this year on all platforms.

IGN recently had the opportunity to get the latest on one of the oldest game series in today's industry: Alone in the Dark -- The game that created the survival-horror genre back in 1992 and paved the way for series such as Capcom's Resident Evil and Konami's Silent Hill.
Eden Studios ("V-Rally") presented the status of the game and explained a few details regarding the gameplay. First of all, the developers explicitly want to get rid of the survival-horror tag, moving it slightly more into the direction of story-driven action. Elements of suspense clearly shine through all the way in Alone in the Dark, so fans of the series shouldn't fret. Alone in the Dark is expected to ship for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2007.
