WorthPlaying writes: "The addition of DirectX 11 hardware tessellation enables Rebellion to capture the detail, essence and tone of the Aliens and Predator movies, providing players with the most unique gaming experience in franchise history.

Chris Kingsley, CTO of Rebellion said, "DirectX 11 provides opportunities never exploited before in 3D graphical terms, with features such as the Shader Model 5.0 providing better shadow and depth of field aspects to the game, and also multi-threaded rendering enabling the Aliens Vs. Predator futuristic characters and environments to be realised in exacting detail but with absolutely no frame rate issues. We are confident we will deliver a game the fans have been waiting for and one of which we will be very proud.""

PS University writes "Aliens has grown to become a pretty popular franchise considering none of its next generation titles have hit retail shelves and there has been a handful of titles apparently in development. From Aliens: Colonial Marines to an Aliens RPG from Gearbox, Aliens seems to be trying to make a name for itself within every genre. As of yesterday, it's rumored that Aliens: Crucible, a roleplaying game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has been cancelled.

Crucible, which was in development by Obsidian Entertainment, has had plenty of concept art leaked to the public. While Obisidian is mostly known for its work on Neverwinter Nights 2 and Knight of the Old Republic 2, it goes without saying that this title may have followed the same path as the former. "

A few months ago, rumors hit the 'net that Sega had axed Obsidian's Aliens RPG, though neither party would either confirm or deny the rumors. The game was scheduled to be one of three projects funded by Sega to use the Aliens license, alongside Rebellion's Aliens VS Predator and Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines, both first person shooters.

An ex-designer who worked at the development studio has revealed in his online CV that he was attached to a now "canceled third-person action Aliens RPG" for next-gen and PC.
Rumour Killers: Gears of War MMO? Crysis on Consoles? Aliens RPG Canned? (News)

TGR: 1. Could Epic be developing a Gears of War MMO? We all know the Gears of War universe is expanding every day, thanks to the huge success Gears 1 and 2 have received on the Xbox 360 this last couple of years. Gears of War has been a benchmark left by Epic for all shooters to achieve. There have been comics, action figures, and even plans for a movie based on the franchise, and the continued support by Epic for Gears 2 has kept the community alive. Apart from the obvious Gears of War 3, how else can Epic expand the franchise even further? How about an MMO?

2. Could Crysis be coming to consoles soon? If there is one game console gamers envy, it is none other than Crysis. The open-world shooter developed by Crytek Studios is probably the best-looking game so far. The only problem with it is that you need one hell of a rig to play at maximum settings and get the most out of this beast. Ever since its launch, there have been rumors that the game would one day make the jump to home consoles. One said it would be on Xbox 360 only, one said PS3, and another said both.

3. Has Sega pulled the plug on its Aliens RPG? The last few days haven't been the best for Japanese gaming giant, Sega. The company has announced losses across the board, is closing down arcades around the world, and will be cutting quite a few jobs, worldwide, too. We were hoping that the games in development either internally or externally wouldn't be affected, but according to this rumor, we may see some games being axed. The game that's making real noise now is Obsidian Entertainment's Aliens RPG, which is based on the sci-fi horror films of the past.

However, we recently dug up some new info of the title, and got some results. Developers on the game have stated "The team is definitely still hard at work on Aliens RPG", clarifying "We and SEGA will talk about the game when "it's time" to do so. I know that's annoying, but things shift around a lot during game development, especially with new technology. It's better for us and end users if we talk about the game when it's further in development. It helps avoid disappointment and confusion".
It really does. And by the looks of the first images, Gearbox Software is going the right way about it.Marines can be seen blasting at aliens and Facehuggers with meaty machine guns in dark, moody corridors. Now, we'll admit that the scans look so good that we wouldn't be surprised if they're actually cheeky renders. But if this is the art direction Gearbox is going for, then we're happy regardless.
