The Sims 2: Pets

Also known as: The Sims 2 Pets [US]

You might want to leave this puppy behind the window and adopt its PC brother instead

Is it unfair to compare The Sims 2 Pets on PS2 to its clearly superior counterpart on computers? We don't think so. We do our best to review every game while considering the limitations of its host platform, but in this case, the PC and console versions are so different that it's our duty to you readers to mention it. The packaging for every version is nearly identical, leading curious gamers to assume that they're getting the same quality, or close to it, when they pick up a console version. Sadly, that just isn't the case.

If you can play this on a computer, do so. If you already own The Sims 2 for PS2 and are considering paying full price again to get the Pets feature, don't. But if neither are true, and you're a big fan of the concept or franchise, then you will be able to squeeze some fun out of this one. We just hope you don't mind spending quality time with your Sim in the bathroom.

You'll love
  • Cats and dogs are fun to watch
  • Especially in ridiculous costumes
  • Basic Sims gameplay is intact...
You'll hate
  • ... But made tedious by the controls
  • Stripped down presentation and options
  • Town Square mostly just Pet Square
