SEGA has just announced that it will cut the price for The Golden Compass on all platforms and the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5. The announcement was only made for Europe, but it is expected the same price cut will follow soon in America.

As of next week, Virtua Fighter 5 will be in stores for only €30, in stead of €60. The Golden Compass will have a new price tag as of next week, with the PSP version at €20, the PS2 version at €30, and the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii version at €40.

1UP expects most movie videogames to be less-than-memorable. Occasionally, a few that break the mold (King Kong, Lord of the Rings), but traditionally they exist solely to pad a publisher's bottom line. Such expectations mostly played true with the adaptation of The Golden Compass, which was actually an adaptation of the first book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials children's fantasy series. With King Kong, Ubisoft tried to break the mold by putting one of their best designers, Michel Ancel (Beyond Good & Evil), at the helm. It mostly worked.

What if something similar had happened to The Golden Compass, a universe full of richly complex characters and mythologies? There's plenty to play with, given the right creative minds. Of course, that didn't happen, but apparently System Shock and Deus Ex designer Warren Spector, now working on a to-be-revealed project with Disney, was interested in bringing His Dark Materials to life.
Dec 7, 2007

The Golden Compass gives new meaning to the all-too-common phrase ‘disappointing movie tie-in. Perhaps if the film wasnt quite as epic, or the Philip Pullman book its based on quite so engaging, we wouldnt have been so crushed to find the game is such guff.

The opening level is hugely disappointing, and that sets the tone for the rest of the game. Confusingly, the game starts at the end of the story, with heroine Lyra racing round the Arctic searching for her pal Roger on ...
Frankly, anyone who's read the His Dark Materials trilogy should want to experience the game and film almost as much as wanting a monkey-shaped demon of their own. By now, the film trailer will be playing in cinemas and you'll probably have seen the amazingly recreated world of Jordan College, Bolvangar and the North on screen for yourself. And we can report that the game - which is being developed by Shiny - is shaping up to have all the best bits from the film, and more on top of ...

In years past, publishers have used the Electronic Entertainment Expo to announce new games, taking advantage of the global audience tuned in to the trade show. However, as it did last year, Sega has played the bricklayer, paving its road to E3 well in advance with announcements for games such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, Ghost Squad, and NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. However, while the publisher isn't using the annual trade show as a venue for its big reveal, Sega's lineup includes many games whose details have been sparse at best.
But you wont hear fantasy fans complaining, as the much beloved, million-selling His Dark Materials series kicks off this winter with the release of The Golden Compass in theaters and every console known to man or beast. An important distinction to make; since animals play a part thats ...
New details on Sega's videogame tie-in with movie The Golden Compass, which is based on the first book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, have emerged. Sega's game sticks closely to the screenplay adaptation of the novel. Players will assume the role of the trilogy's main character Lyra as well as Iorek Byrnison, a warrior polar bear whom Lyra befriends during her adventure. Accompanied by her demon Pantalaimon, Lyra's adventures begin when she goes in search of a friend kidnapped ...
