Top Hollywood leapy kung fu loon Jet Li is reportedly considering a major role in the upcoming Tekken film. It's simply called Tekken at the moment, though we fully expect an 'Ankles of Furious Fury' style subtitle any time now. The movie is currently in pre-production - Tinseltown-speak for "What? I haven't started yet." The only other actor to be linked to the film is Brian J White, soon to be seen in upcoming big-screen game adaptations of Dungeon Siege and Dead or Alive. Don't fret, Namco - those masters of arcade battery - haven't opted to make Tekken 5 into a Super Smash Bros style fury free-for-all. Instead these latest screens from the upcoming coin-op reveal a piratical version of Jack and a cartoon King complete with cutesy eyes and fluffy ears. The reason for the change is a brand new system of interchangeable cards that will let you customise one of the 20 characters and take them in your iron fist from arcade bout to coin-op battle. So the more wins ... » Read More

Namco have released a slew of new shots of Tekken 5, the latest game in the classic beat-'em-up series. The roster of 31 characters so far includes Bruce Irvin, Anna Williams, Eddy Gordo plus an as-yet-unnamed sumo wrestler. Other new characters include Raven, who specialises in kicks; Asuka Kazama, a female related to Jun; and kung fu exponent Feng Wei.As you can tell by these shots, the gameplay focus is on over-the-top attacks, with less of Tekken 4's realism-based moves. There's also talk ... » Read More

PS2 News | Tekken 5
Namco's recently released financial earnings statement has revealed a few details on the next instalment of Tekken. Most notably, the console release of Tekken 5 will be a PS2-exclusive and will go on sale in 2005.The first official did state that the game was coming to consoles, which fuelled speculation that maybe, just maybe, it would make it to Xbox. Unsurprisingly, that isn't the case and, once again, only Sony's console will host Namco's finest pugilists. However, we wouldn't entirely ... » Read More

It has been confirmed as a coin-op for 2004 and it will hit consoles in 2005. Consoles? We'd be surprised if Tekken broke its PS2 exclusivity but the trailer specifically states consoles in 2005, so maybe it'll make it to Xbox. Just maybe. New characters are on board and Namco have even - gasp, shock, horror - ... » Read More
