Now is the time for Tales of the Abyss. I wrote for this game just because I loved it since the first few battles that I fought. The 'Tales' series is one of my favorite RPG series that I've ever played (I think you might have guessed by now). After finishing my Tales of Symphonia guide, I just felt like making another guide for this awesome series, so I just went to the store looking for 'Tales of the Abyss', but I didn't find it. Instead, I bought game, "Tales of Legendia". I really didn't regret making this choice, since I didn't know anything about this game. Anyway, after finishing the ToL game and deciding to make a guide, I started the guide, but my friend Raul invited me to the mall, and once we arrived, he simply bought me this game. After 3 months, I finished the game for the fourth time (which is today, the day I'm writing this intro) and decided to make this guide. So that's the story behind this guide. This game has very good graphics and story that will give you the chills almost all the time. I really enjoyed writing for this game since it just a beautiful game. I also hope you enjoy this guide and game such as I did. Any critics, suggestions, spelling mistakes, contributions are welcome, so please send them at the following e-mail: --> vinheim@gmail.com <-- The following is the only site that may host this guide: - www.gamefaqs.com - www.supercheats.com - www.neoseeker.com If you see this guide posted on any other site, please, PLEASE, let me know. Now allow me to take note on some things: - My walkthrough is pretty dry to me. I'm writing this for free and because I enjoyed this game (just like I mentioned above). If you are looking for tons of eloquent ways for me to say "enter here and a scene triggers", you are going to be so disappointed. This guide is way, way too big to begin with, and lofty language does not help. - If you take a quick scan thru my guide, you won't find the explanations for battle system, main menu, saving-loading, etc. Why, you ask? Well, because the game manual and in-game tutorials do a perfect job explaining the battle system. As for main menu and submenu selections, everything is covered nicely by the game manual. - The usage of abbreviations. When you're in my place or any who writes for GameFAQs or any other page, writing a guide for any game of such proportions, people complain about using too many abbreviations. You have no idea how helpful abbreviations are. It also looks better in every aspect you think. - My guide is not the only one out there. I'm not forcing you to use mine, but if you use others, then you better be prepared for lots of spoilers, which will ruin the element of surprise for you. Also, people that have problems with how I write my guide are in great minority. - The spoilers are great issues in making guides. I am a player of the game, just like you are. The first time I played through this game was completely by myself. I didn't use any guides, therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All the story's ups and downs that were supposed to surprise me had such effect. And I really think it's not fair spoiling such story elements to you. With all this said, let's start with the guide! Enjoy this guide and remember that it is a spoiler-free, so you don't have to worry about important info of the game being spoiled. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=- 1.1] Guide's Layouts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ sx101 -=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= I'll list here all the layouts you'll see through the guide, so you don't get confused of which is which, so here we go! ..:: Section Header ::.. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ /\ /\ /\ ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ )( x] xxxxxxxxxxxxx ( ) xxxxx )( ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ \/ \/ \/ This is the layout that I'll be using throughout the guide to separate different Sections, like the introduction from the Game Basics, etc. Also, these will all have just one number as reference, ie. 7], 13], etc. ..:: Subsection Header ::.. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=- x.x] xxxxx ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ xxxxx -=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is going to be used to separate sub-sections that are in the same sections, like the Story, Game Controls are in the "Game Basics" section. Ages ago, a new type of fonon was discovered--the Seventh Fonon. Its discovery threw humanity into chaos, for if one could use Seventh Fonon, one could learn the future. Wars over the Seventh Fonon raged across the lands, ending only when the miasma - a poison from within the planet - covered the entire world. This is when Yulia appeared. A fonist skilled in prophecy, Yulia saw thousands of years into the future and foresaw a way to seal away the miasma. With the guidance of her prophecies, humanity sealed the miasma deep within the planet. OVER TWO THOUSAND YEARS PASSED. The world is ruled by Yulia's prophecy, known as the score. People believed in the coming "unprecedented prosperity" promised in the Score, never straying from the path set forth in the Score which will lead them to that prosperity. they look to the Score as revealed by the Order of Lorelei, the religion Yulia founded, and hold that the greatest virtue is to follow the Score faithfully. Yulia's Score tells of a young man who is necessary in order to bring "unprecedented prosperity". His name is Luke fon Fabre. An heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, he was kidnapped as a child by the kingdom's enemy, the Malkuth Empire. Since his return he has been confined to his family's manor for his own safety. Once outside at the courtyard, talk to Pere right next to the stairs and he'll let you know about Luke's condition (about not being able to leave the manor). Anyway, go to the E side of the courtyard and enter the door there. In here, go S to reach the entrance. In here, talk to the butler (dressed in red) named Ramdas, to hear that Luke's sword master, Van Grants, is coming. Anyway, try returning to the previous room and Ramdas will tell you to stop talking to Pere (screw you, Ramdas). Anyway, return to the hall, go N and enter the door. Now go in the W door (Guy and Pere's Room) and check the E cabinet to get 'Apple Gel'. Exit this room and enter the E one. Same as before, check the E cabinet to get 'Lemon Gel'. Return to Luke's room to trigger another scene, in which you're introduced to Guy, one of the best characters I've ever played with in the "Tales of" series. You now need to go to the Drawing Room. To get there, go to the courtyard and instead of going in the E door, go in the W one and in the hall, go S and enter the Drawing Room to trigger yet another scene in which you're introduced to Van, Luke's teacher. After the scene, return to the hall (enter the NW door) and go all the way N and enter Duke and Madam Fabre's Chamber. In here, check the cabinet to the E and get '100 Gald'. Here, approach the multitude outside the Inn to trigger a scene (Tear is mean to Luke, isn't she?) in which you're introduced to Colonel Jade Curtiss and Fon Master Ion (remember Luke's phrase at Baticul What's a Fon Master Ion? Well, he IS that Ion). When you regain control, return to the Inn (where the people start accusing Luke). There's another scene in here. Afterwards, talk to the guy in blue and buy any upgrade you need. For Luke buy: 1 Cutlass, 1 Leather Mail and 1 Bracelet. For Tear buy: 1 Wand and 1 Iron Guard. Sell all old equipment. Examine the door to have the red and blue orbs you got turn purple ending with the door open. On the other room, go down the stairs and approach the machine to the N to trigger a scene. OMG, what the f*** happened to Guy? You must continue to find out. Exit this room through the E exit (there's nothing down the stairs) and enter another tower, just like the previous one we were in. Go up the stairs to find a healing save point. Save your game, go up the stairs and enter a door to the W when have a chance. Now get 'Shakujo' and equip it to Tear. Return to the tower, go up 1 set of stairs and enter the E door to get '1,600 Gald'. Return to the tower and approach the stairs going up to trigger a scene. Luke has been captured by the God-Generals. Damn them. They indeed did something to Luke. By the way, isn't Guy awesome? You'll obtain 'Fonic Disc' at the end. Now return to the roof, saving before coming, to trigger a scene and then a Boss Battle with Arietta. ----------------------------- BOSS: ARIETTA/LIGER/HRESVELGR ----------------------------- a) Arietta - Location: Choral Castle - HP: 3,000 - XP: 760 - P.ATK: 98 - P.DEF: 263 - F.ATK: 111 - F.DEF: 235 - Gald: 1,300 - Items dropped: Savory, Apple Gel - Steal: None - Elemental Info.: - Weak: None - Strong: None b) Liger - Location: Choral Castle - HP: 3,700 - XP: 0 - P.ATK: 148 - P.DEF: 228 - F.ATK: 101 - F.DEF: 167 - Gald: 0 - Items dropped: None - Steal: None - Elemental Info.: - Weak: None - Strong: Wind c) Hresvelgr - Location: Choral Castle - HP: 3,500 - XP: 0 - P.ATK: 135 - P.DEF: 236 - F.ATK: 99 - F.DEF: 172 - Gald: 0 - Items dropped: None - Steal: None - Elemental Info.: - Weak: Fire - Strong: Water - Strategy: First of all, focus all of your attacks on Arietta, because she's the magic user of the group. She has spells like Limited and Negative Gale. If these leave a FoF, use them, you can use Water FoF and Earth FoF when you see a Darkness FoF; just like Fire FoF and Wind FoF with a Light FoF. Once she's down, I really recommend taking Liger out, since he's the fastest of the group and has an attack similar to Lightning Tiger Blade. Once Liger is down, take down that bird (what a strange name). It may be a tough battle, but I did just fine with a party of Luke 12, Tear 12, Jade 12 and Guy 12. ----------------------------- Watch the scene after the battle and choose the walk back. Approach him as much as you can and guard until you see an opportunity to attack. Your attacks, along with Guy's and Jade's magic will take him down in no time. Also use all the Apple Gels and Life Bottles you need (I only used 3 Apple Gels and 5 Life Bottles). Each of your attacks will deal 150-200 dmg. to him, so he'll go down fairly quickly (my battle lasted 1 minute and 50 seconds). ------------------------------ If you just can't beat him, leave and I'll tell you when to come again. Now head to the dock (to the S) and speak to the soldier there. Leave and board the Katsbert Ferry. I'll put both areas in the same section, because there's no case in separating them. Once you regain control, try exiting the room to trigger a scene in which Luke gets a headache (just like the beginning of the game). Once at the hallway, enter the door above you and speak to Guy just for fun. Return to the hallway and go up the stairs to the N. In this little room, check the NE corner for a hidden chest with 'Orange Gel' in it. Go up the stairs to the W and get 'Iron Bracelet' from the chest. Now speak to Jade. After the scene, go W and speak to the man by the medicine shop. He's the Coachman that gave you a ride back ay Tataroo Valley. He sold Tear's Jewel, and we want it back. After that, go S and go to the next area. There's nothing to do here right now, so just go S to another area. At the entrance, locate the Armor Merchant sitting on a white carpet right next to you. The building in front of him is the Inn. Now go IN-BETWEEN them to find a rare looking fellow known by the name of "Ant Lion Man". Give him an Apple Gel and he'll give you the "Fried Chicken" recipe. Now locate the Weapon Merchant sitting on a red carpet just S of the merchant sitting on the white carpet. Next to this shop (in a wooden structure) is another merchant. Speak to him and he'll give you either Food or Items. Select items (which are better) and he'll give you 2 Apple Gels and 2 Poison Bottles. Neat. To the E is an Armor Shop called Bellicoso. Buy any upgrades you need and return to the area where I told you before that there was nothing to do. Once here, go W and enter Astor's Mansion. Once inside, a scene triggers (Astor is kinda creepy...). When you regain control, enter Astor's Mansion again then head N and in this hallway, enter the W door. Open the first drawer on the right to get 'Time Traveling Hero' (you can equip this to Anise to change stats, critical rates, Anise learns new Artes, etc, and also change how Tokunaga looks). Proceed up the next set of stairs and go up another elevator to reach the castle and Luke's Manor. From this third level, go all the way N and enter the castle (Luke's Manor is to the left). In here, go up the stairs to the N to trigger a scene. Now exit the castle and go to Luke's Manor (at the W side of this area). After the scene, enter the W room (Drawing Room) to meet Natalia, the princess of Kimlasca. So exit through the N door and go N at the hallway to enter the room of Luke's parents. Another scene triggers in here. After the scene ends, go to the courtyard and talk to Pere twice. The first mini scene will involve Jade, while the second time involves Guy. We now need to look for a guy named Gee near the Zao Desert. Now go to the entrance to trigger yet another scene between Luke, Guy and Tear. Now approach Ramdas and the maids to trigger a scene. We also need to get back the 4 books that'll teach Luke new artes. You also receive '20,000 Gald'. You can buy the book, or you can just spend it in everything you want. With that said and done, go to the N part of the docks to trigger a scene. Buy the remaining text book from the merchant and you'll receive 'Arcana Albertis' and Luke will learn Demon Fist, similar to Demon Fang from previous games. Return to the manor and speak to Pere, who is at the entrance. This is the first step of three to receive the Jewel of Gardios (the weapon on the wall), which is a sword for Guy. Now go to Luke's room and go to sleep. When you regain control, we need to go to the castle. Go there to trigger a scene with Mohs and Tear. So Luke was destined to go Akzeriuth, huh? Cool... Luke receives the title "Ambassador". So, to get to where Van is, go to the save point near the entrance and go W and into the door. In this hall, go all the way W to enter the prison. Go sown the stairs to trigger a scene with Van. Seriously, Luke is so stupid! Exit the castle to trigger another scene. Go to the elevator and go down to the second level. Try going to the first level to trigger a scene where Anise rejoins the group. Great, now Ion was abducted by the Dark Wings. Now go to the first level to trigger a scene. You'll obtain 'Carmine Chamber' and 'Moon Selector'. Now go and stay at the Inn, which is above the Coliseum and the Shops. The next morning, you'll receive the recipe "Fried Rice". Nice. Return up the ladder and go all the way E (you'll pass a ladder going up) to find a lone chest with 'Apple Gel'. Return to the ladder you just passed and go up. Go up another ladder and then go S to find another ladder. Go down this ladder and go down the next one as well. Follow the path and at the fork, there's a 'Feather Cloak' to the E. Anyway, lit the barrel and return to the room with the aircar. Once here, press the switch and board the aircar. On the other side, you'll find a machine that controls the flow of oil. Use it so the oil starts going to the left. Use the aircar once more and go down the ladder to the far E. Lit the barrel and return to where the machine that controls the oil is. Change now the flow of oil to the right, proceed E and press the switch. Save your game and you'll see a lift N of you. To the E is a ladder going down. Take down the ladder to find a chest with '3,000 Gald'. Return upstairs and enter the next area (to the N). In here, lit the barrel at the corner and go down the ladder near the entrance and cross all the way to the W, go up the ladder and get 'Life Bottle' from the chest. And I mean it. Watch out for her combos, which can do 300+ dmg. She also has spells like Eclair de Larmes and Holy Lance which can do 700+ dmg. A good thing is to have Jade and make him cast Artes all the battle, since she has less F.DEF than P.DEF. Also, like all battles, make Tear heal during the whole battle, turning off all of her Artes, except for Healing Circle and First Aid. Luke and Guy are good distractions, but not only that, but she's easy to stagger, so go ahead and attack her with all you've got. Also when she has her Overlimit on, just Free Run through the whole battlefield until it's gone. Heal yourself if your HP is below 400. -------------- Watch the scene after the battle and then exit Deo Pass to the right. =~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~= At the World Map, at the fork you see there in front of you, go E and enter Akzeriuth. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Area #21 – The Mining Town, Akzeriuth sx521 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - My lv: Luke 25, Tear 25, Jade 25, Guy 25 Anise 24, Natalia 22 - Enemies: o~~Item Checklist: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o | Apple Gel..... 3 - 3 .....Orange Gel | | Life Bottle..... 1 - 1 .....Panacea Bottle | o~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~o After the initial scene, enter the building to the right. Return inside and proceed further in to reach a fork, which you should take left for 'Panacea Bottle'. Return to the fork and proceed. At the next fork, take the forking path N to find a chest with 'Steel Circlet'. Return to the fork and proceed to the next area. At the fork in front of you, go N to get to a chest with 'Life Bottle'. Keep going until you come yet to another fork, which you should take N to find 'Carmine Chamber' and '5,500 Gald'. Return once again to the fork and proceed and when you're at the bottom, go N to get 'Nocer Forte', which is a Capacity Core well suited for Jade. Return to the fork and go S this time to reach yet another fork. Go N for 'Cobalt Chamber', now return to the fork and go S but instead of going W down here, go E for a chest with 'Halberd'. Now go all the way W to reach another area. Walk a little bit here to trigger a scene. After it, save your game and go N to trigger another scene. When you regain control, talk to Van to trigger yet another scene. This doesn't look good... once inside the Sephiroth, simply follow the linear path to the bottom of the Sephiroth and enter the door there. Another scene triggers on here and when you regain control, simply move forward to trigger yet another scene. Then an Animated Cutscene... Akzeriuth is destroyed, and all thanks to Luke. Yep, it's Luke's fault completely. When you regain control, save your game and speak to you party members and Tear lastly to trigger a scene. You're now in the Qliphoth and in Fallen Akzeriuth. OMG... a kid drowns and dies! This must be the cruelest scene in the game. Poor kid... Anyway, keep watching the scene and you now need to go to a place called Yulia City, which is to the W. So just point W and some scenes trigger and watch how everybody kills Luke verbally. But it is his fault, though. Anyway, keep going W to trigger another mini scene. I'll make this fast. There's a good strategy to use here, which is run and hit. Yes, you heard me right. Start Free Running around and when Asch comes near you, and he'll start attacking you from behind, but since you keep Free Running, he won't touch you (I hope so). If he uses Havoc Strike or Raging Blast, return to him and unleash (this is what I used) a 3 hit combo + Demon Fist + Fang Blade Rage. You'll deal 1,400+ dmg by doing so. Rinse and repeat. But read this, try at all cost to avoid his attacks, since they'll be dealing 350+ dmg. each hit. Yes, and he'll attack you 3 times (just like Luke). Ok, that's how you can defeat him. As a side note, if you're above Lv. 30 and use a Mystic Arte on him, he'll just counter it with his own. ---------- After the battle, Luke receives the title "Replica Model". Keep watching the scene and now you'll be controlling Asch for some time. Neat. Now check the closet behind Luke to get 'Deck Brush', then go down the stairs and check the green book on the table to learn the recipe "Ramen". Now exit this house. Follow the path a little bit to find yourselves in a fork. You can go S and speak to Guy, but otherwise, go W and speak to the guy at the end. Give him 3 Apple Gels (this is like the Ant Lion Man event). After doing this, return to the fork, go N and enter the large building there. In here, go up the white ramp and speak to Jade up here. Now enter the Conference Room next to Jade and speak to Teodoro, Tear's Grandfather here. Tell him that you're ready and a scene triggers, then an Animated Cutscene. You've come back to the Outer Lands. There's something to do right now. Go to Baticul and to the shops. Here, buy at least 5 Rices since we'll need them once we reappear as Luke and give them to the guy you just gave 3 Apple Gels and so you don't have to come here then returning to Yulia City again. Now exit the Lab, by going S all the way until you get out. Another scene triggers outside in which Guy leaves the party in order to go wait for Luke (what a cool friend, just like mine... I think). We need to go to Ortion Cavern, but let's do a little something first. Start by exiting Belkend and going to Port Belkend. Once here, talk to the guy at the pier and board the Tartarus. Once on board the Tartarus, go directly N of Port Belkend to reach Port Sheridan. Here, go W and you'll see 3 guys picking on an old guy called Nick. You'll take him to Daath Bay and Natalia will learn the Arcane Arte "Gallant Barrage". Nice. I spent, exactly, 33,885 Gald. Yep, all that. And if you sell everything you don't need, you should get 20,000+ Gald.
