Stuntman: Ignition

These movie-themed vehicular hijinks make The Fast & The Furious look like Pride & Prejudice

Video games are a cornucopia of entertainment options, but you know what's been missing? Another aggravating yet addictive title that makes you want to throw your controller at a puppy's cute face, take a whiz on your console, then keep on playing. Not since the first Stuntman in 2002 have we felt that combo of rage and determination, but with its sequel on the way, now would be a good time to start poppin' Prozacs.

Stuntman: Ignition puts you in the shoes of a virtual Burt Reynolds, circa Hooper - if you haven't seen it, Burt's a stuntman and he jumps everything. Anyhow, in the game, you're a rookie with his sights set on making a living in the stunt-driving game. To do that, you've got to take any and every job that comes your way - which includes driving in several blockbuster-style film projects. Ignition features six "movies" with six scenes each.

Typical levels have you running a set path and obeying the director's commands: overtake other vehicles; drift around corners; and trigger massive explosions. Things get a little trickier with two-wheel stints or ducking under moving semis. Fail an objective, and you get a strike; five strikes means you need to do a second take (or third, or 50th…). Excelling allows you to amass giant combo strings which begat unlockables and boosts your rank.
