Stuntman: Ignition - multiplayer hands-on

The ultimate competition for screen time

Stuntman: Ignition isn't an average racer. When you're performing spectacular action sequences for a major film studio, hitting your marks is more important than crossing the finish line and style is more important than speed. This unique emphasis doesn't just affect the single player campaign (see here and here for impressions). It transforms the multiplayer, too.

The game offers four modes of competition for up to eight players. The first, Movie Challenge, is the most straightforward. Everyone zips around the main game's tracks, completing the same objectives. Other players appear in ghost form, however, and can't be touched, let alone crashed into. Whoever drives best, wins.

Nothing that revolutionary, then, but we did get to view a few new levels, or movie sets. In addition to the volcanic mountain setting of "Aftershock" and the 1970s San Francisco setting of "Overdrive," we experienced the fictional blockbusters "Strike Force Omega" and "Whoopin' and a Hollerin' II." The former is a military action flick with big rugged heroes, big rugged vehicles and a big rugged desert environment. Think Predator meets Mad Max. The latter is a country western comedy along the lines of The Dukes of Hazzard, with dirt bikes flying through barns and into pickup trucks.
