PS2 Review
Considering how much micromanagement Sims normally need, the thought of having them stranded Robinson Crusoe-style on a tropical island with nothing but a penknife and a roll of toilet paper could have been a recipe for disaster. After all, if they normally moan about the quality of the wallpaper or how comfortable their sofa is, what would they be like if they have to sleep on the sand and eat ...

Oct 19, 2007 If the thought of getting up early, intentionally smelling like buck urine and sitting in one spot for hours waiting for something to shoot isn't entirely foreign, then Cabela's Trophy Bucks might seem interesting to you. Seem interesting. In this single-player, single mode, first-person shooting game, you are plopped in the middle of a prime hunting spot right as the best game (in this case, animals) are passing through or where the best fowl have decided to nest. In each of the ...

Yep, it's another Spyro game, and it's again on the stalwart PS2, home to many of the dragon's previous outings... both good and bad. Fortunately, unlike its messy DS counterpart, Spyro: The Eternal Night on PS2 is actually a pretty good game. But that's something of a double-edged compliment - it's just a "pretty good" game. The Eternal Night picks up right where the previous Spyro title left off, after the young purple reptile's climactic battle with Cynder. Sadly, Sypro isn't going to be ...

Oct 18, 2007 The sandbox (genre) is no place for kids. Between GTA, Saint's Row, and True Crime, lil' Ginny Gamer has smartly stayed the hell out, lest she shovel up murder weapon Uzis or carry home a pail full of sticky condoms. Enter concerned citizen Lucasarts, who with their new theme park grab-bag Thrillville: Off the Rails, has picked out all the used syringes and, sack o' toys in hand, reclaimed the sandbox for ...

Oct 10, 2007 The Life goes out not with a bang, but a whimper. Sadly, too, as we've come to grow fond of Sony's unique twist on the ever-so-predictable world of NBA games. Sure, other titles may have had slicker gameplay and sharper visuals over the years, but The Life's story-driven mode was easily the most entertaining take on the staid sports genre. Unfortunately, the end of the Life trilogy is not one that'll go down in the history books - if we're lucky, that is. For reasons we can't ...

Oct 10, 2007 If baseball is a game of inches, what then is MLB Power Pros, a game of fate, love, loss, friendship, loan sharks and pizza delivery? It's probably the most creative sports game to be released in some time, and a nice addition to any baseball fan's library. Developed by Konami, Power Pros is the Americanized version of Jikkyou Pawafuru Major League 2, the madly popular Japanese baseball game. As you can see from the oh-so-cute player models that lack legs, Power Pros is targeted ...

Oct 9, 2007 Anyone who's ever played organized basketball will never forget their coach's mantra - strong fundamentals mean victory. Sure, talented athletes can soar above the rim for some SportsCenter highlights, but wins are based on teamwork, strength, and commitment. Such is the reason that NBA 2K8 stands victorious in the PS2 hoops battle this season; while it may lack some of the bells and whistles of its competition, it is far and away the dominator on the ...

Oct 8, 2007 From Odin Sphere to Persona 3, Atlus has sure had a successful bunch of games this year. The recently released Growlanser: Heritage of War seems to have gotten the best localization treatment: an 80-page artbook, three pins, a keychain, a media disc, and more - all for the typical retail price. The package itself is neat, but just like any Christmas package full of underwear and deoderant, Growlanser: Heritage of War turns out to be disappointing and thoughtful at the same ...

Guitar Hero and Rock Band may be all the rage these days, but the music genre owes its heart and soul to the granddaddy of them all, Dance Dance Revolution. The latest incarnation of Konami's foot-tapping franchise doesn't really bring anything blazingly new to the table but what it does, it does well and there's more than enough here to keep fans, both old and new, busy for hours. The concept behind DDR is simple. Music plays. Arrows move up the screen. You hop around like a dancing fool ...

Even though Crash Bandicoot is pretty irrelevant now, his new game looks good - spinning above jungle vistas has a Sonic the Hedgehog level of greenery loveliness, and the games calibration screen assures you the games “designed to use the full range of colours,” which is worth pointing out, we think. And once youve accepted youre on one, single, long, 10-hour fixed path through Crashs world, theres something rather LEGO Star Wars-ish about the fun-size levels, the punch-kicky ...
