Pro Evolution Soccer is back as Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announces that the 2010 edition of the franchise has shipped to stores for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The first PES 2010 review is in via the pages of PSM3 Magazine, which crowns FIFA 10 (very marginally) this year's winner. After the arcade excesses of PES 09, [PES 2010 is] a welcome return to simulation roots, says the mag, which awards PES 2010 a respectable 89% - 1% less than FIFA 2010. If you were disappointed by PES 09, and converted to FIFA in exasperation, this is a welcome return to form, it says.

Konami has told MCV that Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 will bring lapsed fans back to the franchise – thanks to a return to the series' hallmark realism. The publisher has worked closely with the game's community to weed out elements that let down PES 2009 – which suffered critically and commercially against a resurgent FIFA 09.

After the very disappointing debut in the next-gen consoles (except the Wii, where it's recognized as an excellent effort) with PES 2008, Konami followed up with a very improved PES 2009. The next installment promises another good improvement too, as Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 will include a very-much-needed revamp of the Master League, a staple of the series.
