Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time


Ex: We're quite surprised to report that Disney's movie adaptation of Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has become the highest grossing video game movie to date, according to Box Office Mojo.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is perhaps the most concerted effort toward getting a video game property onto the big screen. With backing by Jerry Bruckheimer, a proper director (Mike Newell, known for Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Donnie Brasco), and input from Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner, this has the potential to be the slickest video game property on the big screen, giving the impression that it will be enjoyable for children at least. In a panel at Wondercon, director Newell, producer Bruckheimer, lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal, and creator Jordan Mechner, who also wrote the first draft of the script, discussed their thoughts on bringing this property to the non-interactive stage.

Michael Bay is being linked with the forthcoming flick based on Ubisoft's Prince of Persia videogames. Movie website IESB.net reports that Walt Disney Studios (Walt Disney Pictures is co-producing the movie with Jerry Bruckheimer Films) is "hopeful" that the film director "will indeed direct the picture" after concluding directorial duties on the Transformers movie out this summer. Michael Bay (Transformers) will re-team with producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Bad Boys, The Rock, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon) to direct the big screen adaptation of the popular video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Following this morning's news that a is in the works comes word that there are also plans for films based on Soul Calibur and Prince of Persia.Soul Calibur has, improbably, been signed up by American Pie and Final Destination producer Warren Zide and will be his first project under his new Sony-owned Anthem Pictures.We've no details yet on the film's plot or who will star in it although it's a pretty safe bet that there will be some fighting involved. Let's just hope it's better than 1994's
