PS2 Preview | Spider-Man 3
There's one reason why Spider-Man 2 is the greatest superhero game ever made - the swinging mechanics that enabled you to swoop through the city like a... well, like Spider-Man. Which we guess is the whole point. Few moments in gaming can match the exhilaration of freefalling towards the ground before letting off a web and arcing gracefully back into air. Few games have ever recreated so perfectly a super-hero's powers and made you feel as though they were yours to command. If developer ...

PS2 Preview | Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
The last outing for Marvel's fab four, published by Activision, not 2K Games, was a mediocre affair with predictable button-bashing action that barely tested your skills. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer benefits from PS3's bolder, crisper graphics, while the gameplay's been enhanced to test your wit as well as your rapid-finger ...

PS2 Preview | Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Okay, put the fanboy hat down for a second and let's be real: in your heart of hearts, you think Luke Skywalker is a whiny pansy with bad hair and Darth Vader is a towering bastion of too-cool badassitude. The good guys? Boring. They use their Jedi powers to do what, exactly? Dress in dingy bathrobes and maybe correct a bad X-wing parking job. They never even mind-control their way into a round of free drinks at the cantina or a hot night with a pair of Twi'lek babes now and then. The bad ...

PS2 Preview | Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
The original Mercenaries on the Xbox and PS2 offered hours of enjoyment outside of the games official missions thanks to its flexible physics engine. With the help of some handy cheats and a hankering for destruction, fans were quick to discover the joys of stacking tons of vehicles before blowing them to smithereens. Take a quick look through YouTube, and youll find all sorts of home-brewed explosions that gamers have captured like this one - which features a meticulously crafted pyramid of ...

PS2 Preview | Yakuza 2
Yakuza 2, the sequel to Segas sprawling gang-land saga, was just released in Japan. We loved the original so much – seriously, go get it – that we couldnt wait to rip off the plastic and get back to beating the crap out of henchmen. Too bad the game wouldnt let us for over a half hour. What!? This isnt Xenosaga, Sega. We dont want forty minutes of cutscenes before the game even starts. If every game let us beat up a yakuza henchman on the title screen, then surely the videogame ...

PS2 Preview | Medal of Honor: Vanguard
With all the fuss surrounding a couple of amazing PS3 shooters recently - Resistance: Fall of Man and Call of Duty 3 (maybe youve heard of them?) - the absence of one of the traditional big hitters of WWII gaming, the Medal of Honor series, has hardly been noticed. These titles always epitomized the Hollywood vision of Second World War shooters - rammed with big explosions and amazing set-pieces. Remember that dramatic Saving Private Ryan-inspired beach assault opening in Medal of Honor: ...

PS2 Preview | Stuntman: Ignition
You're gunning through the steep and winding streets of San Francisco. With a white-knuckle death grip on the steering wheel of your 1970s-style muscle car, you see the focus of your pursuit - a couple of criminal lowlifes in a beat up sedan - swerve unexpectedly and escape down a side alley. But you'll get to them later. First, you've got to smash through a glass window pane and launch yourself into the air off a conveniently placed wooden ramp. See, you're not the hero in Stuntman: ...

PS2 Preview | Ratatouille
If Ratatouille weren't based on a film, its story - about a rat named Remy who wants to become a world-class French chef - would probably elevate it to weird-work-of-genius status. As it is, this platform-hopping adventure is relegated to the realm of baby games, although that doesn't mean it should be ...

PS2 Preview | Shining Force EXA
Wed think that with great power comes great responsibility - as a wise man once said to a fledging superhero - but Shining Force EXAs Toma could care less about the fates of rival countries Noswald and Fyrlandt. At least thats what it seems like when plucky, young Toma yanks the Shining Force – the most powerful sword in the land – out of a rocky cavern all King Arthur-style and is bestowed not only said great power but a freakin castle – the appropriately titled “Geo ...

PS2 Preview | Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights
Some games really dish out a kicking before you get any sort of pleasure from them, making you feel quite inadequate and full of self-loathing. (Thought you were good at games? Think again, you useless idiot.) So after countless hard nights of enduring your gamers ego getting beating after beating, it should be comforting to know that one driving game is on its way which will (metaphorically) wipe away the tears and haul you down the bar for a couple of pick-me-ups. Juiced 2 wants to make you ...
