PS2 Preview | Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Sept 24, 2007 Friend or Foe is ultimately another iteration of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, but based solely on Stan Lee's teenage arachno-star. You and a Spidey friend will scrap endless gangs of "minions" throughout several lushly laid-out locales - including New York (obviously), Tokyo and snowy Nepal. On your journeys you'll bump into every major Spidey villain and they'll be available to help you in your quest to... do good stuff, once you've defeated them in battle. With so many camp ...

PS2 Preview | MLB Power Pros
Sept 24, 2007 Who needs realistic player models with motion-captured batting stances when you can have cute and cuddly sluggers with facial expressions that mirror their real-life counterparts? Wii Sports Baseball proved that you can pick up and play a sports game without having to fret over hyper-real 3D modeled sweat, yet left ballpark fans wanting more in the way of depth. Good thing Konami and 2K Sports are importing MLB Power Pros, based on the popular best-selling and long-running series ...

PS2 Preview | WWE SmackDown! vs RAW 2008
Sep 17, 2007 In the real world, an ass-kicking is an ass-kicking. It doesn't matter if the other guy is a street brawling gang banger, your martial artist dorm buddy, the bully on the playground, or the girl scout from down the street - the fundamental problem is someone is pounding their knuckles into your face and stomping on your spleen. As such, any further details are ultimately inconsequential. In the world of professional wrestling, however, the fight is largely secondary to the show. ...

PS2 Preview | Manhunt 2
People rose to their feet, the band began to play and there was much rejoicing: Rockstar triumphantly returned to our offices with its newest build of Manhunt 2. In case you've been laid out, coma-stricken under a rock with no electricity, you've probably heard tell about the drama surrounding Rockstar's latest survival horror nightmare. Cruelly stamped with an Adults Only rating by ESRB, the game brought down the wrath of moral crusaders everywhere, was effectively deemed unreleasable by ...

PS2 Preview | The Sims 2: Castaway
Aug 31, 2007 The Sims 2: Castaway, or "Sims 2: Guess where the idea for this came from," as we're renaming it. Clearly a Sims game - we'd recognize that mix of skill building, house construction and clothes making anywhere - EA have ignored Ubisoft's Lost license and made their own version of the TV show. Washed up on a beach, the name of the game is building a community with mysterious "other" Sims (read: the Others). A more plot-led experience this time, reaching certain skill milestones ...

PS2 Preview | Manhunt 2
[Editor's note: Our sister mag from the UK, PSM3, was lucky enough to review the PS2 version of Manhunt 2 before it was banned outright. But dont worry though, as soon as Rockstar works out all the kinks, well kindly review the final version. But for now, direct your eyes towards the review of the game youll never play.] At the time of writing, the UKs British Board of Film Classification has refused to give this sequel to Rockstars 2003 game a rating, citing its “casual sadism” ...

PS2 Preview | FIFA 08
Just to clarify, FIFA 08 on PS2 is not a cut-down version of the PS3/Xbox 360 version. It's being coded from the ground up specifically for the machine. Not only is this good news for the PS2 game, but also for the "big" versions as they won't have to keep old technology in mind. But enough about the big boys - the PS2 version got its fanfare when we visited EA, and with good reason. This looks to be the best FIFA yet. Firstly, and surprisingly, this isn't aping Winning Eleven any more. It ...

PS2 Preview | Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
Confidence. On Sundays, on the 18th green, staring down a birdie putt for the win, Tiger Woods has it. Sergio Garcia? Not so much. After Garcia missed a putt for the win at the 2007 British Open, he lost the ensuing playoff to Irishman Padraig Harrington, and left any confidence he had in a deep bunker somewhere on the back nine at Carnoustie. As confidence plays such an important role in the game of golf, it's about time EA included it in its upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour game. And so it ...

PS2 Preview | Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Mercenaries was a superb achievement on Xbox and PS2 when it was released in 2005. The destructible environments, go-anywhere and drive-anything gameplay was like GTA in a warzone. But the sandbox style of game has been done so many times now, its sequel is going to have to do a lot more than that if it's going to remain relevant. And after playing it at EA's Chertsey offices... we're not sure it's doing enough. It's got the right attitude, that's for sure. Designed as a fun videogame rather ...
