PS2 - PlayStation 2 - E-rated games that are evil Censors exist to protect vulnerable youngling minds. They are upstanding guardians fighting valiantly to keep unsavoury adult gametertainment away from innocent little Johnny and Jane Couch Potato. And, generally, they do sterling work. Virtual re-enactments of murder, foul-language, filthy dirty sex and other such heinous stains on humanity's under-gusset are correctly branded as suitable only for a mature audience. An audience that is righteous and incorruptible. But sometimes ... » Read More

Sometimes planning a vacation feels like too much work. Even if you manage to score enough time off, finagle a passport and find affordable deals for your flight and lodgings, theres still a good chance that youll get screwed by delays, lost luggage, overbooked rooms and locals with a powerful disdain for your loud Hawaiian shirts. While nothing can replace the thrill of visiting famous sites and learning about them via overpriced headset tour guides, weve noticed that some games have done an ... » Read More

By now, youve probably seen the motion sickness-meets-whale/parasite monster hype machine, Cloverfield. And like us, youre probably still scouring internet forums feeding off bare morsels of factoids like that radio transmission you have to play backwards. Its probably ‘cause we cant get enough of giant monsters wrecking your shit. We started thinking of more tantrums of gargantuan proportions and came up with five of the most heinous nasties that look the best in 1080p. These arent in ... » Read More

You know the formula. A pure-hearted beauty falls into the evil grasp of some snarling, spitting, mustache-twirling megalomaniac. A noble hero, driven by honor, courage and - let's face it - hormones, rushes to her aid. A brief kiss ensues and, before you can say sequel, the hapless lady has stumbled into imminent danger all over again. Tale as old as time... classic "damsel in distress." Except sometimes, the damsel isn't worth the damn trouble. ... » Read More

The Wii maker has reported that its nine-month profit almost doubled, thanks to the massive sales of both DS and Wii. Sales rose 85 percent to a frightening 1.32 trillion yen. But now the company eyes Sony's worldwide sales record, currently held by PS2 in 2003. Wii sales will probably help the company overtake Sony as the world's largest maker of consoles in '08, according to Daiwa Institute of Research. "Nintendo couldn't supply enough Wiis to the North American market for the holiday ... » Read More

Note: This article is intentionally magniloquent and bombastic. Read it at the risk of becoming irritated and rebutting it in a forum, blog, or on Digg. What is a first-person game? Third-person? Most can easily identify these terms as referring to a games “camera” and how it relates to the virtual physical space of the game world. Also utilized are omnipresent viewpoints (strategy games), and the somewhat outdated second-person (text adventures). In literary terms, however, the ... » Read More

Its natural for videogame companies to get a little marketing-happy. Hell, if we had a popular franchise, wed whore it out as much as we could too. (By the way, make sure to check out GamesRadar for all your gaming-related needs!) Anyway, weve stumbled upon so much dreadful, officially licensed merchandise over the years, we couldnt help but laugh at how poorly they portrayed the games they were based on. Get ready to bask your eyes in the most confusing products that ever marketed a ... » Read More

January 23, 2008 If you've been playing games for a while, you will likely have heard of Treasure. This revered developer has created some of the best shooting games ever. True, it also gave the world Dynamite Headdy, but you gotta take the rough with the smooth. Gunstar Heroes, Ikaruga, Alien Soldier, Bangai-O - all magnificent titles in many ways. But all pale in comparison to the company's magnum opus, Radiant Silvergun. Released in 1998 on Sega's dying Saturn console, the game was never ... » Read More

Following a string of rumors, it turns out Sony's PSP platformer Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is coming to PS2 very shortly. There's no official announcement on the title, but a recent PlayStation Underground e-mail from Sony flags up the port, apparently hitting North American shelves in March. The news has since been confirmed by a Sony spokesperson, who also said that the game will arrive in Europe in March as well. Size Matters was released on PSP about a year ago and marks the first ... » Read More

What do Solid Snake, Lara Croft and Samus Aran all have in common? They dress for success. Their own costume, be it custom-built spacesuit or bottomless backpack, is directly related to their adventuresome profession. No matter the situation, these heroes are loaded with gadgets, training and expertise that'll see them through to the end. But not all game characters are created equal. A great many appear to have no practical application other than "the boss says this guy stays in the game." ... » Read More

Theres the off chance that a brilliant sleeper hit will jump into the spotlight and capture our hearts this year, but for the most part we can fairly accurately predict which games are going to consume all of our free time in 2008. So, in the spirit of giving, and giving awards, which is so popular this time of year, we present The Preemptive 2008 Game Awards. Thats right, were awarding this years best games in advance, and at the end of the year well simply pretend to have forgotten that we ... » Read More

Jan 17, 2008 Each and every New Year, members of the gaming press begin tripping over themselves in hopes of predicting the big things in the coming dozen. Be it right, wrong, vague or obvious - you're sick of reading them, we're sick of reading them. So in one fell swoop, GamesRadar has told every other aspiring '08 Nostradamus to suck it long, and suck it hard: We got psychics. Ignoring the tired tradition of basing predictions on facts, intuition or consulting with experts, we went to ... » Read More

Jan 16, 2008 Retailers often make mistakes, and can be the source of many a rumour, but when an unannounced game turns up on major retail sites - with proper box art and everything - we're inclined to believe what we see. That's why we're reporting, with great certainty, that the surprisingly good Silent Hill Origins - the latest game in the series released on PSP - is being ported to PS2 and will see a release real soon. Both Amazon and Gamefly have the PS2 version listed for a March ... » Read More

Jan 15, 2008 Update: By the way, for all of you frothing-at-the-mouth conspiracy theorists who've written in accusing us of being on the take, you'll note that we never actually endorse HD-DVD over Blu-ray. We're not saying it's better... at all in fact. We're simply trying to shine a little sunshine into the lives of all those HD-DVD fans out there. Relax. We like movies. You like movies. Sunglasses. Wear them, and no one will know where you're looking. Are you making eye contact when you speak? Maybe, but they don't know. Thats how cool you are. Jan 14, 2008 Videogames are weird. Weird. Rules that apply to books, television and movies don't work at all here. Take blobs, for example; so far, Hollywood has produced only one major blob protagonist, and it was a pink monster that devoured everything in its wake. Conventional wisdom holds that nothing that horrible could ever be made cute or marketable, let alone heroic, and yet videogame history is filled with cute blobs who've touched the hearts of millions and become more memorable and ... » Read More

11th Jan, 2008 Games based on licensed IPs are the unpleasant body odour of gaming. No-one really likes them, but they're inexorably tied to the medium and just keep coming back no matter what we do to get rid of them. As crap as most of these games are though, the licenses they're based on usually make sense. Big movies, popular, action-packed TV shows and successful sports stars are all perfect subjects to stick on a box in order to persuade the unsuspecting buyer to pick it up. It's a ... » Read More
