Sept 25, 2007 Fanboys! They're the purest, noblest breed of gamers in existence. The front line grunts in the neverending console war, their purpose is simple: blind, drone-like obedience to their chosen format, and an unwillingness to acknowledge that any other system might be worthwhile. Gaming simply wouldn't be the same without them – whether they're pointing out that 'PS3 ROCKS!11!' on a messageboard or calling you despicable names on Xbox Live, they're the spice in gaming's chunky ... » Read More

Breaking news: Halo 3 is out right now! You already knew that? Well then here, check out this quick Digital Short we made poking fun at Master Chief, Microsoft's unstoppable hype-o-matic machine and the perils of senility. Watch as a man of questionable age looks back on his time as a Space Marine as he questions everything you thought you knew about The Great Covenant War I. (Not the official title.) It's a parody of the "Believe: An Old Fart Recollects" video that came out a few weeks ago ... » Read More

Sept 25, 2007 Sega of America's president and COO Simon Jeffrey reckons PS2's not about to cash in its chips any time soon and believes it'll still be fighting in the hardware space by around 2010. Reported on MCV, he said that the Sony mega-seller will still sell in significant quantities for "two to three years at least", adding "We believe that the PS2 will be around for quite some time". Jeffrey went on to explain that Sega is in it for the long haul with the PS2, opining that the ... » Read More

Sept 21, 2007 Videogames are, on the whole, nuts. But we love the ludicrous excesses of our games - after all, they're not textbooks, they're entertainment. Yet when it comes to the actual storylines, some games are far more barmy than others. Mario, for instance, is pretty straightforward when you get down to it - man saves princess. It's just wrapped up in a cohesive fantasy world. Sometimes, though, the line between 'fantasy' and 'lock me up please nurse I'm a nutjob' isn't so much crossed ... » Read More

Sept 21, 2007 Devil May Cry 4 News | Previews | Screens The TGS trailer for DMC4 offers tantalizing glimpses at a few of the series signature gigantic awesome bosses. While forcefully nodding your bleached locks to the requisite goth-metal soundtrack, make sure to note the gloriously grotesque snaking flower-dragon. You won't get a look at any more boobs (see previous trailer) but this is still one of the must-watch trailers for the ... » Read More

Sept 20, 2007 Dream job? It's the profession some know as "getting paid to play." When people hear what game testers get to do for a living the response is often along the lines of "You get paid to do that? That's gotta be the best job in the world!" But what is testing really like? We talked to some real-life testers and got some seriously honest answers. What's it really like being a tester? Tester A: I hate to ruin people's fantasies about the glamour and glitz of the game industry, but ... » Read More

What can we learn about the future of gaming by looking at what's survived the past? We've picked out our seven favorite precursor games that sired some of today's most successful hits. Read on to find out what jump started GTA III, who the Big Daddy's father is, and how you just might be able to figure out Halo 3's ending before the game releases. For as long as videogames have featured realistic faces, videogame designers have been ripping off celebrities to make their characters. We're not talking about stars who license their faces to appear in games, but about characters who look eerily similar to those stars. On purpose. It's not necessarily through malice or lack of originality that these characters are created. It's just that it's difficult to come up with new, believable faces and personalities, and drawing from someone you ... » Read More

Sept 14, 2007 Will the trade shows please end?! Tokyo Game Show picks up where Games Convention left off (which picked up where E3 left off etc) next week, with Japanese publishers said to be unleashing their big guns on the Makuhari Messe crowd. Capcom in particular has been tipped for deployment of "three huge announcements," according to Australian site Game Player, which says it became savvy to the info at the recent Activate Asia 2007 conference in Cairns. Sept 14 2007 We just don't know how good we've got it at the moment. Sept 11, 2007 Two weeks ago we asked you to South Park-ify your favorite game characters for an almost illegal amount of South Park DVDs during our retrospective feature on the boys and their games. And what better occasion to run your kick ass submissions than on the heels of South Park's Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour), beating out such stiff competition as The Simpsons, Robot Chicken and, uh, Avatar? September 11, 2007 The great thing about videogames is that you can visit places you'd never actually get to see in real life (unless you're an Indiana Jones-style archaeologist, in which case kudos to you). But ever considered that you could see the whole world from your armchair? Check out the Google Map below to see how you can go around the world in 80 games. It may cost you a lot, but still way less than the cost of plane tickets, and safer too. Just click each point to see which game ... » Read More

We got to thinking about this videogames stuff - we do that sometimes - and in the process, we stumbled upon a great idea for a new file-download website. But the thing is, we need your help. It's called FileRadar (located conveniently at FileRadar.net, or at the handy, "Downloads" tab we popped up at the top every GamesRadar.com page) and what makes it different is the fact that it's entirely driven by you and not pompous know-it-all journalists like, well, us. Users submit files and, if you ... » Read More

Change is good, they tell us. Without progress, we stagnate. But is that true of videogames? Think about it. Beyond the high-res textures, fancy physics and surround sound, is the stuff you're playing today really any better than what you experienced as a kid? We don't think so. Maybe we're old or maybe we're just stubborn, but we can't help longing for the types of games that got us into this hobby in the first place. What follows are the genres we miss the most, the ones that deserve to ... » Read More

10 Sept 2007 Quite why anyone is in the position of having to recycle their PS2 at the moment - it's still selling well, there's loads of games for it - but if you have decided to bin off the old dog in preference for a PS3 (prematurely in our view) then there is the question of what to do with it. You could just sling it in the bin, but that's not very environmentally friendly. What about recycling it and then using the plastic to make pens? That's what they're doing in China, where it would ... » Read More

Sept 6, 2007 A Sony Pictures exec has been quoted as saying that he'd love Microsoft to join the Blu-ray revolution. "We would love to have Toshiba and Microsoft on board," Don Eklund, almost in charge of advanced technologies, said in an interview. "Toshiba can't keep dropping prices much more. It maybe a strategy for fighting a format war, but for us it has to be profitable." Eklund also made some comments about potential for the Blu-ray / HD DVD format war to be eclipsed by movie ... » Read More

Sep 6, 2007 We play games to take a break from reality, where power-ups and two-story tall bosses are sorely lacking. Of course, this means we often find ourselves doing all sorts of unrealistic things like leaping over buildings or gutting zombies with chainsaws. Maybe we need to take a break, because lately, we've been pondering some serious WTF conventions in games, the over-the-top ridiculous realities we accept as commonplace without batting an eye, and it's been keeping us up at ... » Read More
