Retail Scoop: New Releases Week of September 29, 2009 (Obscure II)

In affiliation with Amazon.com, TripleChat is happy to bring you the new releases each week for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. Along with new game releases they will also highlight the top five bluray releases each week that they feel will best suite movie and TV show fans alike.

Remember last week? Remember how uneventful it was? Well guess what, that's over this week. While game wise the selection is about the same on the PS3 and PS2 – this week it is all about the PSP Go. Oh yes, after just a few short months of waiting since E3, the PSP Go launches this week (October 1 to be exact)! Included this week in their special PSP Go Launch Center are the two big releases this week for both the Go and PSP 1000-3000 and those are Gran Turismo and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge.

On PS3 the biggest release this week is the sequel to Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Slated originally as a 360 exclusive (as was the predecessor), the sequel comes to us with more features, better graphics, and maybe even more cleavage!

On the bluray side of things the biggest release this week is the 70th Anniversary Collector's Edition of The Wizard of Oz. Outside of taking a stroll down the yellow brick road, they have two animated flicks for you – one featuring Monsters and Aliens, the other featuring Superman and Batman. To finish it there is a 2003 remake of a classic coming to high def for the super low price of $10 and one of the better independent films of 2009!

Obscure: The Aftermath Goes Gold On Wii, Playstation 2 System and PC (Obscure II)

Ignition Entertainment Ltd., a worldwide publisher and developer of videogames, and co-publisher Playlogic today announced that Obscure: The Aftermath has reached Gold Master status! It is scheduled for release on March 25, 2008, for Wii home video game system from Nintendo ($29.99), PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system ($19.99) and PC ($14.99).

Today, Playlogic has announced that it will be releasing Obscure II for the PS2 and PC in Q3 2007 and for the Wii in Q4 2007. If you are into campy teen horror flicks and survival horror games, this game may just be for you, with a soundtrack performed by the Boston Symphonic Orchestra and the Paris Opera Children's Choir.

Square Enix's PS2-exclusive RPG Odin Sphere arrives in the UK - and other PAL territories - on March 14.

Odin Sphere features a visually sumptuous 2D art style and follows the tale of Odin's daughter - Gwendowlyn - and she has to uncover the secrets of a prophecy that could lead to the end of the world.

Square Enix Unveils Early 2008 UK Schedule (Odin Sphere)

Square Enix has today announced details of its schedule for the fresh end of 2008, with Final Fantasy I and II on the PSP and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings on the DS both being given firm street dates.

Details of the release dates for other UK-bound Square Enix titles are somewhat more vague, with DS titles Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates and The World Ends With You due as the leaves begin to sprout, while we can expect Odin Sphere on PS2 and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on DS sometime before said leaves turn brown.

Kotaku's 2007 Games of the Year and Overall Game of the Year (Odin Sphere)

Kotaku's Brian Crecente writes:

"Our first-ever Game of the Year awards was a pretty straight forward deal. I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

Super Mario Galaxy won Kotaku's Overall Game of the Year award. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came as second, it won the Not Quite Game of the Year award. (Kotaku posted the overall results as a separate post, see the link at the Alternative Sources below for more details.)

September 4, 2007 An arcade game called Arm Spirit has been recalled in Japan after three people suffered a broken arm while playing it - with further unreported cases likely. The game is supposed to be quite easy to beat and its makers Atlus Co. EDGE smashes Blue Dragon, Transformers and Hour of Victory in reviews (Odin Sphere)

The newest issue of the British magazine EDGE is in stores as of today and its always interesting to see which games were reviewed and what scores they got. This month some interesting titles have been reviewed, such as: Blue Dragon, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Transformers and GRAW2 for the PS3.

Apparently EDGE didn't really like Transformers and Hour of Victory as both games got 2/10 from EDGE. The British don't really like Blue Dragon and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 as well as both games 'only' got 6/10. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass did really well as it scored 9/10. "The last male character I want to touch upon is Issun in Okami. He isn't a playable character, not to mention you don't really see him during gameplay (LOL), but I think that people who have cleared Okami realize that he was a great main character. Conceptually, Issun is a childish character who manifests this immaturity in his extreme perversion and foul mouth; however, he is also a good-hearted, loyal, and compassionate figure. As Okami is an adventure game, Issun holds a special place as the character with the largest number of lines I have ever written, and as you move through the game, I think he is also the most fleshed out of my characters. Among all the characters I have created, he is the only character that hasn't been used by another creator, and even now, he is a character whose story I feel I'd like to continue some day."
