Ubisoft have just released the first details of Obscure, a new survival-horror title that draws inspiration from teen horror flicks and TV shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Due for a September release on PS2, Xbox and PC, the game heralds the company's first venture into the genre since Project Zero II.A student going missing is the latest unnerving incident in Leafmore High, a school waning beneath some dark, oppressive cloud of evil. Five friends join forces to search out their missing
Survival horror can be a lot of hard work, especially when there's no light relief to break up the gore-filled barrage of trouser-filling frights. So just as the movie world has Scream and The Faculty to have fun with the formula, so gaming has Obscure - and we've been given hands-on access to a nearly finished PS2 build of its sequel, Obscure II.
The game's unique in that its co-operative two-player mode runs for the entire game. We were impressed with the sheer number of dialogue lines as
The PS2 isnt going away without a fight. Every few weeks we think its time to finally tuck the little guy into bed one last time, and move on to bigger and shinier hardware; then a game like Odin Sphere is announced, a gorgeous 2D side-scrolling Action RPG, and we promise to never threaten our little buddy again.
Developed by Vanillaware, creators of the Sega Saturn cult hit Princess Crown, Odin Sphere plops players into the rather important shoes of Gwendolyn, daughter of the head honcho of

An arcade game called Arm Spirit has been recalled in Japan after three people suffered a broken arm while playing it - with further unreported cases likely. The game is supposed to be quite easy to beat and its makers Atlus Co. (the company who brought the world Princess Crown and Odin Sphere) can't see how people could manage to sustain such an injury while playing it. All 150 machines have been recalled and will be investigated for possible malfunction.

Today Sony via the PlayStation Blog
announced its new PlayStation Network promotion. Titled “Only on PSN,” the blog
post highlighted multiple downloadable offerings like this week’s Eufloria and Rochard,

Sometimes it's beautiful, and sometimes it's ugly. Either way, Okami is unlike any game you've ever seen. Casting players as a Japanese sun-goddess-turned-wolf, its gameplay involves a mix of platform-hopping, traditional adventure-game quests and using a "celestial brush" to paint objects into the game world.
It's hard to comprehend until you've gotten a good look at it, so click on the images tab above and feast your eyes on our new shots of the game. Showing friends, enemies and a lot of

This week's UK entertainment software chart (all formats, all prices) makes us sad. It makes us sad because no matter how hard we look at it we can't see Okami anywhere. One of the most utterly original and delightfully entertaining games to ever bound its way to PS2 has vanished just two weeks after its debut at number 12, before sliding to 30 and, now, it's plummeted with a forlorn howl into the abyss...
Little Britain: The Videogame, on the other hand, is still
Gears of War, Okami and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are among the nominees for "Best Game" in the seventh annual Game Developers Choice Awards.
This year's GDCA, the awards program where honors are bestowed to developers by developers, will take place during GDC 2007 on March 7, the ceremony to be hosted by legend Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions.
Joining Gears, Okami and Zelda as "Best Game" nominees are Oblivion and Wii Sports. Out of a total of eight categories in the
Okami is one of PS2's best adventure games in our opinion and if designer Hideki Kamiya has anything to do with it, there'll be more epic wolf soon.
Kamiya has a sequel in mind, and has revealed that it's something he'd really like to do. But unfortunately for Okami nuts, it's not his decision to make, so his hands are ultimately tied for the time being according to Kotaku.
Meanwhile, Capcom's Kenji Infane is considering porting the PS2 title to Wii - something which had been rumored and

There are some things that developers and publishers just don't want you to know. And given the unnaturally high number of game announcements, hardware revelations, industry shake-ups, and all round cool things going on this year, they've wanted you to not know a lot during 2007. Thankfully though, the internet exists, and thus nothing is sacred.
That's the eternal irony of the games industry. It's a business which tries to shroud itself in secrecy, but whose patrons congregate
