It's the profession some know as "getting paid to play." When people hear what game testers get to do for a living the response is often along the lines of "You get paid to do that? That's gotta be the best job in the world!" But what is testing really like? We talked to some real-life testers and got some seriously honest answers.
What's it really like being a tester?

Konami has announced that Cristiano Ronaldo, midfielder for the Portugese national footy team, is to be the face of PES 2008 in Europe. Expect to see his mug splashed across the game box, and any cardboard stands clogging up the aisles of your local game shops. It's unconfirmed as to whether he'll be smiling.
He won't be alone, mind - there's more 'specially selected local talent' on the way, which Konami will be announcing at a later date. Until then, you can digitally

The sound of excited men could be heard up and down the country this morning as Konami officially announced Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, which will be shimmying its way to PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS and PSP sometime in the Autumn. Shoot your mouse here for a look at the first images.

An overwhelming majority of gamers are male, so it makes perfect sense for every marketing team in the world to target their software at young guys. And what do all men ages 18 to one zillion love? Girls, gore and big loud machines. If they could make a game about a firefighting bikini squad that hunts down zombies in a decked-out sex/fire truck, world peace would be declared. PES says that both Man United and Chelsea will play out gritty, low-scoring draws to keep the title chase alive. First up,

When digging through our music collection recently one CD in particular - a copy of Crash Course 1 by UK hip hop duo Stylah and DJ Snips - caught our attention with its striking resemblance to the box art for Pro Evolution Soccer 5. Take a look at the side-by-side comparison below to see what we mean.
If ever they record Crash Course 2 maybe the MC and DJ team will take their cover inspiration from PES 6 - we reckon Stylah would look the business in a pair of shorts and
The stupidly nostalgic (for us PSO nuts anyway) Phantasy Star Universe is set to expand with a new Ambition of Illuminus expansion pack. Arriving in the form of downloadable content on Xbox 360 and a retail release for PC and PS2 users, the expansion introduces new single-player and online content such as new roulette and slot mini-games in the lobbies and a slew of new weapons and armor for your

Konami has confirmed to us that the PS2 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is now fully functional with the latest 1.7 PS3 fimware update. It sorts out the problems players encountered with playing the PS2 game online on the PS3 - ie. It didn't really work properly.
