NBA Live 08

Say hello to offense again, as EA lifts the lid off of the basket this season

The usual game modes all return, including playoffs, season, dynasty, All-Star weekend, and mini-games. A new addition pops up in the form of the FIBA World Tournament, a nifty little international conflagration that's a welcome change of pace. We're not sure why the Americans have had so much trouble winning these things lately, since we torched the globe with Bron-Bron, Kobe, Dwayne Wade and company. Those Spaniards and Frenchies never knew what hit 'em.

Unfortunately, even as the on-court gameplay and extra goodies invite everyone to jump in, the decidedly herky-jerky presentation leaves a bit to be desired. We're not sure what happened to NBA Live's framerate over the past year, but it's definitely lost a step as the series nears the end of its PS2 lifecycle. While it doesn't hover near the level of unplayable - not hardly - there's an obvious stutter afoot that definitely takes it down a notch.
