Given how effortless it seems to slap an English dub on a anime or manga-based game, the original Naruto: Ultimate Ninja turned into something almost better than we deserved. Well, certainly better than what we’re used to. Because along with a beloved license, Naruto: UN brought an incredibly intuitive, easy to play, yet hard to master, fighting style that lended the game an air of longevity far beyond the mere ability to exchange blows amongst your favorite cartoon characters.

For those not in the Naruto know, the fighting mechanics bare a striking resemblance to the minimalist perfection found in sacred brawlers like the Super Smash Brothers and Virtua Fighter series. And once again, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 showcases just what can be accomplished with a single attack button. There’s a veritable orgy of devastation to be unleashed depending on how many times you press the circle button in conjunction with which direction you hold on the D-pad. Throw in another button for projectiles and 16 multi leveled environments chock full of health items and ability enhancements, and you’ve got a recipe for some of the most chaotic combos ever seen.
