The Top 7... Bloodiest games you've never played

We spew a whole mess of gore-soaked games you've never heard of - and we do mean mess

2.  Shadow of Rome - Capcom, 2005 - PS2

It's hard to beat the savagery of gladiator combat when it comes to spilling the essence of life. Whether it's historically accurate or simply romanticized doesn't matter - when it comes to coliseums, we want to see someone get gored. This overlooked action/adventure featured plenty of brutal arena battles, oversized weaponry, a full dismemberment system - you literally could cut a guy's arm off and beat him with it - and a total disregard for honorable combat.

Nearly 200 special moves with names like Bloody Tomato, Fleshus Mortus Maximus and Sadist's Utopia will make you a crowd favorite. We particularly like the move called "Meat Pudding," in which you slice off both your enemy's arms and the head, then cut their torso in two. Are you not entertained?

Above: Shadow of Rome proves that a man can rise above his social station - he just has to violently dismember a few hundred opponents and kill some man-eating tigers first.

Shadow of Rome was an amazing game but kinda felt immature with the gore... like it was there olny gimick. Would have been an amazing game if i could take it seriously.

Just goes to show that anything in excess eventually becomes hilarious. I don't know why No More Heros wasn't on this list (the uncensored U.S. version at least), and it's too bad Madworld wasn't released in time for this article, it would fit right in.

@ericairasole : In the beginning of the article, it says that it would address the games that were more obscure, as opposed to more mainstream ones.

I'm pretty sure GoW 1 and 2 fall under the "mainstream" category.

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is freaking amazing. I still play the multiplayer on that game. The single player is still entertaining to me.

If anyones ever played the game "Die By The Sword"
