3.  BloodStorm - Strata, 1994 - Arcade

Remember Time Killers? In the wake of Mortal Kombat clones, Time Killers awarded players for not only beating their foes but dismembering them in the process. But few people remember its spiritual sequel, BloodStorm, which lived up to its name even as it dragged fighting gameplay down into the ditches.

The bonuses for slicing off heads and limbs (which then twitched and bled on the ground) returned, with the ability for players to power-up as they mutilate their opponents in showers of plasma.

In some areas, the game went simply by the name "The Storm" - because, you know, in a game that rewards you for splattery decapitations and shows a guy's intestines spilling out in the attract mode, it's important not to have an offensive title and marquee.
