We use Seinfeld-popularized neologisms and phrases constantly without considering who popularized them (“shrinkage,” “yadda yadda yadda,” “close-talker,” “not that there's anything wrong with that”).

Why can’t some people just call a spade a spade? Or, in the case of video games, call a health pack a health pack, instead of a multi-purpose, cosmic healitron 3000. We’re sick of developers trying to give their games extra context or dimension by pasting unnecessary and sometimes baffling terminology onto simple, every day game actions or objects. It’s convoluted, embarrassing and totally comically. Below are some of the ...

People like to see good triumph over evil. It's the reason Superman always wins despite getting stabbed in the face with shards of Kryptonite. Why John McClane beats a skyscraper full of heavily-armed terrorists with nothing but a string vest. And why those pesky S.T.A.R.S. agents always get the better of the T-virus. Sometimes, though, there are games brave enough to spit in the face of convention and let their no gooders go ...

Kotaku: The official novelization of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is due out in November, raising the question of how many different ways there are to say "hiding his crotch with his hands".

Perhaps author Raymond Benson will offer us some keen insight into Raiden's mindset as he snuck naked through a heavily fortified enemy base in Metal Gear Solid 2. Benson, the author of six James Bond continuation novels, also penned the novelization of the first Metal Gear Solid, which went on sale last May. Reader reviews of the first book were relatively positive, although there weren't that many, so we've high hopes that Benson will return to form on November 24th, as long as he can avoid passages like this one:

"Raiden tensed, gripping his junk as the sounds of booted footsteps rang out from around the corner..."

We need to be told what to do in a game from time to time. We rely on helpful characters to issue us with objectives and point us in the right direction. Imagine the wasted hours if they weren't there to help. Trouble is, some of them go about it all wrong and - although they're trying to help - just get right on our tits. Honestly, Navi's a joy compared with these nagging characters that need to STFU.

...

If not, it’s something to be covered up, ashamed of and never discussed. Sadly, many developers have no such qualms with nude, fleshy parts. They see games as the perfect forum to roll out a bit of man boob action and unappealing, exposed ass flesh.

Got a strong stomach? After spending our childhoods at the altar of a twitchy, flashy, interactive dream box, we tend to act a bit ADD. The best games, however, can cut through this clutter right from the start. They dazzle us with cinematic spectacle or immerse us with unexpected realism. They overwhelm our eyes and ears with technological power or capture our minds with extraordinary storytelling. Within those first few minutes of play, they demand our attention. ...
