Once you’re done lying to yourself, pretending you don’t have no connection with the likes of Mickey, Donald and Goofy, let’s marvel at just how astounding it is that almost every person in the world born in the last century shares some familiarity with these characters of unrivaled legacy. ...

So what would happen if amoral Balkan sociopath Niko Bellic was in everyone's favourite cute and cuddly cartoon racer? Would Mario and chums accept him into the line-up with grace and humility? Would Niko keep the lid on all his murderous rage when Yoshi was firing red shells up his tailpipe? Of course, not. This is what would happen if the worlds of Liberty City and the Mushroom Kingdom clashed...

And that got us thinking.

Square-Enix remembers their fans outside of Japan less often then we'd like. I just got word that they remembered that we are just as obsessive a bunch as their mothership's fans. They have announced a set of full-color, intricately detailed PVC figures making their way to Square-Enix's USA store. Normally I would just glaze over this as a collection of incoming overpriced paperweights to pretty up my desk space, but they are overwhelmingly gorgeous figures of some of their headline characters from Final Fantasy's Sephiroth, Kingdom Hearts' Sora (in his Halloweentown getup!) and even Edward and Alphonse from the hit anime and manga series Fullmetal Alchemist. Hit the jump for screenshots of some of the announced figures to hit the e-shelves of Square-Enix this week! Word on the streets says they might even be affordable, too.

Except when they really, really do. With these seven games, in fact, you don't need to stare.
Sept 20, 2007

Two new Kingdom Hearts titles have just been announced at the Tokyo Game Show. DS owners will get 358/2 Days, while PSP owners can look forward to Birth by Sleep.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days for the DS will mark the return of the heartless, Roxas, and looks it looks like the game will reveal more details about the mysterious Organization XIII.

The brief trailer showed more of Twilight Town. Expect more languid cutscenes as kids sit on dangerous precipices at the train station's ...

According to Quartermann's reports from 1up, in the latest issue of EGM, speculation is high about a Wii-xclusive spin-off of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Now, a series of prequels may be in the works for different platforms, much like the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII has done so. The FFVII Compilation has reached PS1, PS2, PSP and mobile phones so far, and the Kingdom Hearts series may very well follow suite.

Kingdom Hearts games have appeared on the Playstation 2 (Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II) and the Game Boy Advance (Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.)

Square is expected to make an announcement at this year's Tokyo Game Show, scheduled for late September.
We were hoping to get details on the next Kingdom Hearts project at this event, but unexpectedly, Square Enix has decided not to release anything. A brief new trailer was shown that's basically incomprehensible to anyone that's not a KH superfan. It depicted a seemingly unconscious Sora flying through the air, a giant field filled with dozens of keyblades, and mysterious figures in really cool armor - who were they? We have a hunch that one was an adult Sora, but we could be completely crazy so ...
"It is not Kingdom Hearts III, but it is an anecdote... I want to explain what Mickey did in the World of Darkness, and also how he got his keyblade," Nomura told Famitsu.

The hardware sales for US consoles has been released, here's how it broke down, in terms of total unit sales and difference (in percentage) from April:
1. PlayStation 2: 232,000 ( 12.1%)
2. Sony PSP: 159,659 ( 17.1%)
3. Nintendo DS: 145,930 ( 5.4%)
4. Xbox 360: 221,000 ( 25%)
5. GameCube: 33,000 ( 13.2%)
6. Xbox One: 26,000 ( 33.3%)

The sales data for the PSP and DS have yet to be released. With the summer drought upon us, expect hardware sales to either decline or remain stagnant as we move closer to the holiday season. We were a bit surprised by the PlayStation 2's increase in sales, which we can only attribute to the release of the mega-selling Kingdom Hearts II or the announced PlayStation 3 price deterring future customers.
You may wield a mean keyblade and drive a tricked-out Gummi Ship, but are you sure you've seen everything that Square Enix and Disney's latest mouse-and-moogle masterpiece has to offer? Find out as we list 10 of our favorite things from the best-selling action RPG.

1. Mickey Mouse is a stud

One of the original game's most enigmatic figures, King Mickey is hidden in shadow no more. In fact, he's pretty much a Jedi, able to carve enemies to pieces in a fight with Yoda-like agility.

The best thing about Kingdom Hearts II isn't just that that it's a heck of a lot of fun to play. Nope, the best thing is how it puts dozens of your favorite characters into a blender and pushes "frappe." From Disney movies you still sing along with to the role-playing classics of Square Enix's past years, the worlds of Kingdom Hearts II are packed with ...
Tetsuya Nomura, director of Kingdom Hearts II, revealed at the game's launch party that a further Kingdom Hearts is in the pipeline. KHII has only just reached American shores, but the game has performed so well in Japan on PS2 that mentions of a follow-up aren't so much wishful thinking as obligation.

Even so, Nomura wouldn't say much except that he has "a new idea" for the series. The next game in the franchise likely won't be a direct sequel, but - judging by Nomura's vague comments - one ...
We're still amazed that Kingdom Hearts even exists. An action RPG that casts Goofy, Donald Duck and now Mickey Mouse fighting through multiple Disney worlds? Along the way, they interact with new characters and villains created by the developer/publisher of the Final Fantasy games?

This should never have happened, but it did. And it should never have been brilliant, even magical, but it was. So is this sequel, actually the third game in the series, after the PS2 original and Kingdom Hearts: ...
Wednesday 29 March 2006
Tetsuya Nomura, director of Kingdom Hearts II, has revealed that a further Kingdom game is in the pipeline. KHII has only just reached American shores - while the date of the UK release remains unclear - but the game has performed so well in Japan on PS2 that mentions of a follow-up aren't so much wishful thinking as obligation.

The next game in the franchise isn't a direct continuation of the recent sequel, but, according to Nomura's plans, one that will take place ...
To say the first Kingdom Hearts was unique is an understatement. It wasn't just a success: it was a mega-smashing, world-eater of a success. It wasn't just unusual: it was a sounds-unholy-but-works-perfectly mating of Disney's characters and worlds with role-playing style and flair from Final Fantasy developers Square Enix. It was an Action RPG that atomized the mode - seriously: Goofy is a knight and Donald Duck a wizard? Your spaceship is made of gummi bricks? - and left fans squalling for ...
