'Piano Hero' gets Cease and Desist

PS2 - Guitar Hero - 'Piano Hero' gets Cease and Desist

The creator of Piano Hero, Nicholas Piegdon, has been sent a Cease and Desist letter from Activision, the publisher of the Guitar Hero games.

Activision asked that Nicholas stop using the name in regards to his game. Piano Hero is an open source game and due to Nicholas's lack of legal expertise in the area and "time, money, or energy", he has decided to comply with the request.

Electronic Arts has signed a deal to publish Guitar Hero developer Harmonix's next game, the company revealed at its GDC press reception. It seems that industry giant EA has entered an agreement with MTV and Harmonix to publish their next game. Harmonix, developer of rhythm based games is best known for their Guitar Hero series. Though the rights for that IP have been sold to Activision the developers have big plans for their next title.

Red Octane, the original publisher of rock-out music game Guitar Hero, looks set to continue to release spin-off titles of the series on Sony's aging PlayStation 2, according to comments made by Dusty Welch, the company's head of publishing.
