Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories

First UK review! GTA's PSP debut comes to PS2

Liberty City a curious addition to the GTA series, as it's the first time it has taken a sideways step. The standards for GTA are set so high that you have to readjust your expectations to really enjoy Liberty City Stories, but as a series spin-off it's a hugely enjoyable game. Just remember: it's a PSP game, not GTA IV.

Due to its PSP foundations this was always going to be a limited GTA experience, especially in comparison with San Andreas. But that shouldn't detract from the fact that this is a slick, challenging and warmly nostalgic addition to the series.

You'll love
  • Trademark free-form GTA gameplay
  • Compelling story and great voice work
  • Incredibly fair price: $20
You'll hate
  • Smaller than previous two PS2 GTAs
  • PSP multiplayer modes amputated
  • Trademark GTA swishy vehicle handling
