Sony has announced plans to release retooled versions of its God of War PS2 games for the PS3 - and has signed up US independent studio Bluepoint to help with the conversion.

The new versions of God of War 1 and 2 will boast Trophy support and HD visuals, all stored on a Blu-ray disc - which conveniently arrives in stores a few months before the arrival of 2010's God of War 3.

The games were originally developed by SCEA's Santa Monica Studio.
At least one entertainment reporter got a chance to read the script and while he notes that it's "almost slavishly" true to the game, it differs in one important respect: the ending.

Sony surveyed potential God of War III fans this week about what they'd like to see in a collector's edition for the PlayStation 3 sequel, including repackaging the first two games on Blu-ray.

That would almost certainly indicate that PlayStation 2 games would be playable on the PlayStation 3, a backwards compatibility option that the most recent PS3 configurations don't offer. And that would be just about the greatest thing since in-game text chat to hit the console.

Not so fast, Sony Computer Entertainment reps say. The console maker is not announcing updated PS2 support just yet.

According to Production Weekly: "Over at Universal it looks like Brett Ratner has shelved 'God Of War,' and is moving forward on 'Trump Heist' with Eddie Murphy and Chris Tucker."

"Trump Heist" is a film about a group of employees who rob the rich residents of Manhattan's Trump Tower."

411mania gives a rundown on this week's game releases. Highlights include The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity, DJ Max Fever, and Ninja Blade.

The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity
"Despite still being in pre-alpha, the glimpse that I got of The Chase at last year's E3 was already looking pretty good. Unfortunately, more high-profile 2D platformers like Mega Man 9, Bionic Commando, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia were getting most of the attention. So, it's understandable that this game was overlooked."

DJ Max Fever
"What's surprising is that PM Studios decided not to follow in Konami's footsteps by bastardizing the series with crappy songs from 2nd-tier US bands that nobody has ever heard of. Granted, most of the people who pick this up will not have heard of any of its songs either, but one of the game's main strengths is its song selection, and changing what works would kill the series before it has a chance to plant its feet."

Ninja Blade
"Ninja Blade is a 'Cinematic Action' game developed by the people who brought us the Otogi series"
"It looks to be a cross between Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, Heavenly Sword, God of War, and Onimusha."
Street Fighter IV hype was asploding across the webs (GamesRadar included) and we felt there was no better time to excuse a barrage of boney bastards across the site.

Then we thought, “why stop with Street Fighter?” There’ve got to be a billion goddam skeletons creeping through virtual graveyards just begging to have their toothy visage slapped on the immortal internet. Who are we to deny them such a privilege? So, without further yammering, we present, just in time for Halloween (y Dia de los Muertos), the biggest batch of skelleys you’ve ever seen... ...

Despite the news of the LittleBigDelay, LittleBigPlanet is still the jewel in the eyes of many. It's the reason why there was such a boisterous response to the delay in the first place -- people still need their LBP like it's PB&J. A testament to that, someone somewhere has gone and made a 7-inch clay figurine of Sackboy Kratos (pictured).

In fact, the guy who made the statuette is selling his creation on eBay for some other fan to enjoy. At the time of this writing, the piece was at a $31 bid. Bidding ends at 9pm today, but that shouldn't stop you from at least checking out more pics of the immortalized Sackboy Kratos.

Find the Ebay item link after the jump.

Ratner, responsible for the Rush Hour trilogy and X-Men: The Last Stand, confirmed his role on the project at a Hollywood party recently.

"I really like Red Dragon, I really like the first Rush Hour, I actually really like X-Men 3.

Game Politics is reporting that Sony Computer Entertainment America and high-profile game designer David Jaffe have been sued in U.S. District Court in California for alleged copyright infringment involving the best-selling God of War series, GamePolitics has learned.

The suit was filed in late February by Jonathan Bissoon-Dath and Jennifer Barrette-Herzog, both of Davis, California. SCEA and Jaffe filed responses with the Court on August 29th.

In the complaint, Bissoon-Dath identifies himself as "the author of a series of related works of fiction, including Olympiad, a screenplay." Barrette-Herzog is described as the creator of Island at the Edge of the Living World, "a map that was submitted with Bissoon-Dath's work: The Adventures of Own: Owen's Olympic Adventure."

''We haven't really heard news on the God of War movie for a few years, ever since Universal secured the movie rights from Sony. Set in ancient Greece, God of War follows the battles of the warrior Kratos, who tackles mythological beasts including Medusa, Cyclops and the Hydra on his quest to find Pandora's Box and destroy Ares, the god of war. The movie script was written by David Self, known for Road to Perdition, and will be produced by Brett Ratner''
Troy is recovering from his wounds, but apparently has lost much of his eyesight. Although some gaming sites reported the news at the time, GamePolitics opted not to cover the story as the linkage to God of War seemed peripheral. Last evening, however, they received one of Miami attorney Jack Thompson's numerous e-mails.
In 1983 you, like us, would have played a Commodore 64. It was also the year you could have picked up a copy of 2000AD in the UK, to read it for Skizz written by a young Alan Moore. Twenty-five years later, the worlds of comics and games have definitively separated in terms of experience - so why do we see so many of our favorite comic creator names appearing in the credits of certain games? Rebellion bought 2000AD and Judge Dredd Magazine, Top Cow is half-owned by Eidos and Rockstars marketers ...
The big problem with cell phone games is that they tend to be designed for non-gamers. Sure, we know there are probably a zillion more copies of Snake out there slithering around on cell phones than there are Gears of War spinning in 360s, but that doesn't mean Snake doesn't suck. However, that may all be about to change with the release of God of War Betrayal, the first mobile game we've seen that actually had us pricing a new phone.

Slated to hit this June for Verizon customers and in July ...
5. Shadow of the Colossus
SCEI | SCEA | 2005

In theory, this was just a third-person action game - but the fact that it was all boss battles against gigantic leviathans, strung together by a heartbreaking plot makes it a must-play

What made it so great?
Some games are games. Others are experiences, and few games demonstrate this better than Shadow of the Colossus. It's drenched in melancholy atmosphere, from the sparse, mournful soundtrack to the muted color palette, and expertly intersperses ...
God of War II director Cory Barlog has dropped a heavy hint that the PS3 SixAxis will be given a rumble feature in the future.

It's amazing what can come from a launch party of a videogame. 1up reports that Barlog let slip a few interesting things about the future of the God of War series (which will obviously hit PS3 at some point).

Here's the clip: "Did Barlog just confirm that God of War 3 will be in 1080p with SixAxis and VIBRATION functions on PS3? He sure did! Whoa! Well, technically he ...
David Jaffe, the action-brain behind God of War, has spilt some enticing info-beans about the ill-fated PSP project he was working on last year, though as challenging and interesting as it sounds, it's now consigned to development purgatory.

"Heartland was the story of China invading America," David Jaffe explains in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "where you played a soldier debating whether to stay and fight for America or go AWOL to meet up with your ...
Not so for Kratos, the courageous hero of Sony's God of War.
