God of War

God of War: First movie

A tantalising mixture of hit and myth makes Sony's new adventure one to watch

According to ancient Greek mythology, the Hydra was a seemingly invincible multi-headed beast so fearsome that it would leave you with quakes in your boots and lumps in your loincloth. Not so for Kratos, the courageous hero of Sony's God of War.

In the first nibble of footage that we've seen of the game, we witness the warrior cracking open a particularly ferocious can of pathos-flavoured whup-ass all over the mythical monster.

Kratos' dual-wielded blades look like they'll be an absolute blast to get to grips with. While the button-prompt, context-sensitive moves look awesome - check out Kratos as he prises open the Hydra's jaws - we can't wait to see more of them.

With the appearance of Poseidon (god of the sea) in the clip and, given the game's title, it's safe to assume that players can expect to encounter a selection of deities from the legendary Greek pantheon.

And, like Hermes, you can rely on us to bring you more information as we get it.

God of War will be released for PS2 in the summer
