Hideki Kamiya, Atsushi Inaba, and Shinji Mikami resurface with new game development studio.

Shortly after Capcom announced the dismantling of Okami developer Clover last year, it was revealed that two of the studio's big names--Viewtiful Joe producer Atsushi Inaba and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya--had already left the company in search of "fresh challenges."

They appear to have found one, as the pair are listed on the Japanese language site for upstart developer Seeds, along with fellow Clover veteran and Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami. While Kamiya and Inaba had left Capcom entirely, Mikami last year was still working for Capcom as a contracted producer.

As of today, the studio behind Viewtiful Joe, Okami and God Hand is no more. Clover Studio was shuttered by main shareholder Capcom. At a Board of Directors' meeting was held, and it was decided that Clover should dissolved. The reason? According to the Capcom IR release:

"Clover Studio Co., Ltd. has met the goal of developing unique and creative original home video game software, however, in view of promoting a business strategy that concentrates management resources on a selected business to enhance the efficiency of the development power of the entire Capcom group, the dissolution of Clover Studio Co., Ltd. has been raised and passed at a Board of Directors' meeting."
You can send God Hand's very first enemy flying 30 yards into the distance, smashing him through a support that sends a whole roof crashing down. If you're not cackling with glee at this point, you might be after running up and mashing buttons to stomp the rest of the life out of him. This is God Hand, the most frenetic and over-the-top beat 'em-up on PS2. It's a game about the sheer, idiotic joy of beating the crap out of things, and the best homage to '80s arcade ideals this side of 360's ...
At this year's Tokyo Game Show, we had the luck to sit down with a very talented man. Atsushi Inaba is a maverick game creator who's had his hand in a number of off the wall game titles. He first became known for the one-two-punch of Viewtiful Joe and the incomparably complex and obscure Steel Battalion (that Xbox game that required a $200 cockpit controller.) Now, he's back with two big hits: Okami and Phoenix Wright, and topping it all off with the absolutely off-the-wall God Hand. We've ...
Don't be fooled by the serious look of this upcoming brawler. We got more play time with an early version of God Hand and it's as much about punchlines as it is about punches, infused with the sort of wacky humor we'd expect from the creators of Viewtiful Joe.

God Hand takes place in a land plagued by the Four Demons and their gang of minions whose main mission is to mutilate and humiliate the innocent civilians and belly dancers of the world. You'll take control of Jean - blessed with the ...
Wednesday 23 August 2006
We're starting to get the feeling that God Hand is some immense practical joke we haven't been let in on yet: an unlikely enough PS2 action game to begin with, with every new movie it becomes more surreal.

Click the movies tab above for smack-talking, high-kicking hero Jean's latest run-ins with Wild West banditos, girl gangs, gorilla wrestlers, Shaolin monks, and vicious carnival performers.

God Hand is a supreme slice of Japanese weirdness - to the extent that it's ...
A couple of months ago, when we first got a chance to check out God Hand, we weren't so sure. The game's M.O. is to mix off-the-wall humor with down-and-dirty fighting. Yeah, it's from the same studio that kicked out the awesome comic-look actioner Viewtiful Joe, but everybody makes mistakes. We're happy to report that things are looking up, though. The version we saw yesterday looks and plays much better. The comedy is also more pronounced, and that Capcom polish - the same sort of slick ...
Looking at God Hand, it's hard to believe that what you're seeing is from the same mind that brought us the Resident Evil series. There's no horror here, no deadly zombies and the combat is heavily tilted towards the humorous side of the fence. Yet, for all its absurdity, God Hand carries a certain beat 'em-up appeal that is difficult to ignore.

Set in the Old West, the game is equally inspired by classic "Spaghetti Western" films and classic rock-'em sock-'em anime. Fans of post-apocalyptic ...
Capcom has pulled the wraps off God Hand, its latest urban-themed beat-'em-up for the PS2. It stars Jean, a mumbling hero who's inherited the Hand of God, and is now entangled in a series of deadly scraps with those seeking out the source of the power that he's tapped into.

Put simply, it's a rowdy 3D fighting game that's livened up with some brutally colorful and violent effects when Jean puts his heavenly digits into action, filling the screen with dazzling light and crumpled faces.

We've ...
