LOVEFiLM, Europe's number one online DVD rental service, expects Assassin's Creed to top sales and rentals this holiday season.

"Assassins Creed will definitely be up there; our audience have already heavily pre-ordered this and the sure scale of the experience is very cinematic, so will prove popular amongst film fans," Chris Bird, head of marketing services for LOVEFiLM, told GamesIndustry.biz.

"Kane and Lynch will also do well, as will Call of Duty 4. FIFA 08 and PES will also be 'must buy' for anyone getting a new console over Christmas."

After more than a month at the top, Halo 3 finally relinquishes control of the software chart down under.

Last week's No2, Crash of the Titans for PS2, wrestles top spot from Master Chief, while FIFA 08 is up seven places to No3.

SingStar RnB makes two entries this week, the standard edition charting at No4, and the bundle pack at No9.

Excluding Halo 3, the top ten consists entirely of PS2 and Nintendo DS titles.

Link's latest Legend of Zelda adventure for Nintendo DS debuts at No1 in Spain and Germany, and at No2 in Sweden.

FIFA 08 makes three entries in the Spanish chart and two in the German top ten. In Sweden, Football Manager for PC tops the league.

While PC titles dominate the German and Swedish top tens, the Spanish chart has a distinctly console, specifically DS, flavor.

The Orange Box debuts at 3, Phantom Hourglass at 4

Sega's Football Manager 2008 has entered the UK's all-formats chart at number one this week, knocking EA's FIFA 08 off the top spot.

Accounting for 38 per cent of all PC titles sold in the past week, Sports Interactive's management sim is Sega's first multiformat number one title since last year's version of the popular football franchise.

IGN is offering 40 readers the chance to become a record breaker by taking part in the biggest game of FIFA 08 in the worldÂ¿ Ever! Yep, you could become a FIFA world beater by joining team IGN and showing your skills as part of EA's London Games Festival event planned for next week.

Participants will be invited to play on stage at the event taking place at Leicester Square, competing against a host of other competitors from across the country, as well as some of the biggest names in Premier League football.

Just to clarify, FIFA 08 on PS2 is not a cut-down version of the PS3/Xbox 360 version. It's being coded from the ground up specifically for the machine. Not only is this good news for the PS2 game, but also for the "big" versions as they won't have to keep old technology in mind. EA has released the first trailer of FIFA 08, the latest iteration of its best-selling soccer franchise. The teaser shows a player in Barcelona kit, running with the ball over 3D grass before burying a long-range shot. Electronic Arts to buy stake in The9 (News)

Electronic Arts Inc. has reached an agreement with The9 Ltd. to buy a 19 percent stake in the Chinese online game operator for about $200 million, a local newspaper said on Saturday.

EA, the world's top video game publisher, and The9 have reached a basic agreement, Shanghai Securities News reported.

A representative from The9 was not immediately available for comment.

Shanghai-based The9 also obtained the exclusive right to run EA's casual game FIFA Online in China at the end of March, the newspaper added.
