Lumines Plus

What's it all about?

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past couple of years, you've likely heard of Lumines by now. Massively popular on the PSP, Lumines converges music, visuals and addicting gameplay into a puzzle game unlike anything else out there. Now, thanks to the release of Lumines Plus on PS2, you won't have to invest $200 in a handheld for the privilege of playing this modern classic.

What's the big deal?

This isn't the first time Lumines has shown up on a home console - it's already seen a release via the 360's Live Marketplace. That release, however, left more than a little something to be desired. The core game was inexplicably bare-bones, with promises that expansion packs would be forthcoming - for an extra fee. Thankfully, Lumines Plus is free of the dreaded microtransactions that seem to curse so many next-gen titles. Just buy the game once and you're set to go for hours and hours of solo or two-person play.

How does it stack up?

Puzzle games almost never need a superpowered console to be great. Just look at the many iterations of Tetris - the basic game hasn't changed, even though consoles have grown more and more powerful. Lumines is no exception to this rule - the PS2 can easily deliver this experience just as well as the 360 or PSP.
