I am an expert on Dark Cloud. All of my villages are perfected. I have the Chronicle 2 which is completely maxed out except for Anti-metal. I have also beaten the Demon Shaft (bonus World) which is 100 levels and is very... very... hard. Also, in my latest level. I am at the second floor of the sun and moon temple, and i have 26000 GILDA! So you better do as I say. Or you'll end up like some looser who isn't any good at Dark Cloud. :-P Well anyway, this is my first general walkthrough, and can possibly be the best walkthrough for Dark Cloud that there will ever be. But I have ripped a few parts of Andrenalisl and Azeroth's walkthrough, and put them into mine. (see special thanks at bottom) but no worries, those parts are only sections that I'm either just too lazy to do, or that it won't make any difference at all if I made it or not. I have also used other walkthroughs to help my walkthrough get started and the sections that were copied (but modified) are: parts of the weapons section on ch.6, and the house requirements section scattered about ch.9. Alright, moving on, In the 'walkthrough' section (ch.8) it will show you everything that you need to know to beat the game in order as it will happen in the game. This Walkthrough will also include some sections for beginners that will explain to them how to play the game, and how to get comftorable with all of the controls and preferences. These chapters would be ch.1-5. They will introduce you to the controls, the charectors, the gameplay concepts, how to duel, and a little Dark Cloud For Dummies Section. (just for you to know how to play, and what to do) But for you other people who allready know how to play, there are other sections on weapons, and the main portion of my walkthrough, the 'walkthrough'. >> Initiate= C:// andrew's documents/wlkthroughs/my walkthroughs/ My dark Cloud walkthrough 3.0>> Initiating... You are controlling Toan, a skinny guy with an orange tunic, black pants, green hat, and brown shoes and gloves. Right now, you are inside a clearing where Norune Village (your home) once stood. All that remains right now is the Mayor's house. Walk over to his house (using the left analog stick to move; see controls ch. 2) then press the X button on the door to get in. Then the Mayor will talk to you about stuff. Pay attention, you need to know this stuff. Then he will give you some basic items to start off with, and a dagger. Which is the second worst weapon in the game! The only thing that is worse, is Xio's slingshot. But don't worry, the monsters won't be hard at the start. Now go to the Divine Beast Cave, which is easy enough to find. (has black doors, and torches.) Then use the Cave key on it, (press [], and press X on the cave key. which will be aquired for talking to the mayor. Now when you come to the level selection screen, press X to enter level one. When you beat this level, you will gain access to level 2 and so on. Your goal in the dungeons is to find the key to gain access to the next level, which will almost always be carried by a monster. You can seperate the key from the monster by defeating it. You can attack a monster by pressing the X button, and you can hold down the X button to perform a signature attack maneuver. However, there will always be an extra cost of WHP (see gameplay ch.3) and only certain charectors can perform signature maneuvers. I also have one last peice of advice, which is to aquire the Chopper, which can eventually evolve into the Chronicle sword. Which is the strongest weapon in the game untill you aquire the Chronicle 2 by defeating the boss at the end of the Demon Shaft. But you can also wait untill you get to Mataki Village, and buy the Wise Owl Sword from the Wise Owl Shop. So I think that this shall conclude the Dark Cloud For Dummies section. For a complete lesson see ch.2-5. The others are for advanced players and for the Walkthrough sections. ============================================================================================ ---------- 2 Controls ---------- Left analog stick Move, turn, climb ladders, move cursor on georama screen Right Analog stick adgust camera angle Triangle Open Menu X Button Attack/charge, confirm selections () button Close Menu, cancel selections L1 Button Switch allies stats/weapons, switch lock-on on ,monsters L2 Button Adjust camera angle R1 Button Block Attacks R2 Button Adjust camera angle Select Button Switch to Georama View/ walking Start Button Pause game =========================================================================================== ---------- 3 Gameplay ---------- I will tell you about all of the basic gameplay concepts and encounters for this game. I have also made this simple enough for beginners. Cause if I got on to some of that advanced stuff, your head might start to spin. Because this is quite a complex game. But not as comples a Zelda. Man, that games weird. -------- concepts -------- -------- Dungeons -------- Dungeons are the places in Dark Cloud that make this game really interesting. Without dungeons, the game won't be much fun. This however, can be very hard when you start off. When I started my first file on Dark Cloud, my brother was stuck on level one with absolutely no idea what to do! But I actually pay attention to those lessons from the Fairy King. So I snatched the controller from him and beat level one in a snap! This is also the place where you will need to use your weapons and allies. Also, it will be easier for you to beat the level with revival items. You may also need t6o use a few special items that were given to you by villagers, or anything similar. ------- Georama ------- Georama is pretty fun to do, say whenever my brother or sister comes back with a bunch o' atla, I dive for the controller, and wrestle it out of their hands. So basically, you press 'Select' to go to Georama view, then use the left analog stick to move around. To place georama, press the triangle button and selct 'Config/assemble,' then choose a house or item and start putting things into the house's requirement list. You must do this because whatever you're trying to build is probably missing some parts. So you must restore the house by selecting items in the box on the right. Then put it in the place that you think it will fit. If it isn't the right place for it, it will refuse to go in, if otherwise, it will go in. Also, with all of the buildings, there will be a (?) space. To identify what goes there. You will either need to ask the inhabitants what they need. Or, if there aren't any inhabitants, the spot will be identified when you put a certain item in. Also, to palce the part on the ground, you select it's icon and select where on the map you would like it, you can also orient the part by pressing the R2, or L2 button. You can also move the pieces around even after they've been placed by selecting the move parts icon on the menu. Then select ther part hat you'd like to move, and feel free to move it wherever! Also after completing an inhabitants house, they will often give you rewards. Some don't though.:( You can also ask them forany requests for the village, and if you please them all this way, you will be given a very special reward. ------------- The '!' alert ------------- This alert basically means that one of your charectors can do a special move in a perticular place, or it means that you can open an atla or chest. Or it could mean that you have to hit something with a perticular weapon. It can also mean that your charector must give something to someone, or to a special place. If you see the '!' alert, press the X button to see what happens. If you must give something, you must press the [] button. Then you select what to give. If you get it right, an event will occour. If not, your charector will indicate that it is the wrong thing to give. ------ Allies ------ If this game didn't have allies, it wouldn't be very fun. So basically, allies are always there to help you in the dungeons. If they are alive that is though. The allies can provide you with three advantages in Dark Cloud. The first one is: if your selected charector dies, and you have stand-in-powder in your inventory, you can choose to use it. Then you can use one of your other allies. ---- Time ---- Time is an interesting concept in Dark Cloud because this is a thing that you wouldn't usually see in other games. This concept will not affect the game much though. All that it affects through my observations, would be what they give you when you trigger the effects on their houses or stores, the things they say to you, and what they're doing. ----------------- Person Left Arrow ----------------- This is a feature in Dark Cloud that will indicate to you if there is a person or monster nearby. It will also display their name when you come into close proximity. This is deffinetely a very useful feature in Dark Cloud as you can see the arrow before you see the person. Altough you could turn off this feature. But it would be harder for you to find the person that you're looking for. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Dungeon Mode ------------ ------ Chests ------ Chests will be indicated on your map as a yellow dot. They will also come in two sizes. The small chest will carry useful items that you can use. The larger chests will hold weapons for Toan and his allies. But sometimes the chests will have traps, that can only be lifted by guessing the trap, or by using a treasure chest key, which is worth 400 Gilda! Honestly, I always sell the treasure chest keys that I find and guess the trap. Also, don't run away from the big chests that have traps on them, and you don't have any treasure chest keys. Because those chests will have a lot better weapons than the chests that don't have traps. But watch out, come level five there will sometimes be powerful monsters in the chests called Mimics. There are also King Mimics in the Large chests, which are known to kill in one blow! ---- Keys ---- Sometimes you will need keys to open some parts of the dungeons, and the boss levels will always need some sort of key to gain acess to their floors. You can use an item or key on something by pressing the [] button. You can find the keys by either defeating a vertain monster or by finding it in a chest. The keys to the doors in the dungeons will be as follows: Divine Beast cave ----------------- Doors: Bone Key Dran's chamber: Horned Key (Dran's Windmill) Wise Owl Forest --------------- Doors: Moustach Key Master Utan's territory: Moon Grass seed and Sun Dew (mushroom house) Shipwreck --------- Doors: Shipcabin key Church of Memory: Music Box Key (Divinning House) Sun And Moon Temple ------------------- Doors: Stone Key King's Curse floor: sun and moon stones (go to chief's house upon completion) Moon Sea -------- Doors: Crank, or whatever it's called Colliseum: Ticket, or whatever it's called Gallery Of Time --------------- Doors: Pitchdark Key Night Of Incident: all of Seda's memory fragments to be restored Demon Shaft ----------- Doors: Silver Key Boss: Unknown ----- Water ----- This is actually quite odd for a game that will need you to keep your charectors well watered. Oh well, it doesn't really matter. Because, you could just drink from springs that you can find in the dungeon floors. Or you can just buy water and ise it on any of your charectors in the options menu. ------- The Map ------- This is deffinately a usefull feature in Dark Cloud. You can use it to find your way through the dungeons, and it will indicate the objects or enemies in close quarters to you. Or you could just find the magic chrystal in each level, and it will tell you absolutley w3here everything is. You could also get the map item. That will fill in the entire map. But all the wierd symbols that come up on the map can be very hard to read if you don't know how to read the map. Here is what all of the symbols mean: green square: level entrance yellow square: level exit pink arrow: your position red dots: enemies yellow dots: chests or weapon chests green dots: atla fragments Pink (?): backfloor entrance large circles: water spring small circles: mystery powerups ---------- Backfloors ---------- These backfloors will transport you to a special are of the level, although these are optional, you don't need to go into the backfloors to complete the level. Although you can find gems and monsters that are worth twice the ABS as a normal monster. (see weapons section) Ther will also be monsters that won't appear for another level or two. But watch out! These monsters are stamanized. But there is a downside. You need a special key to get into a backfloor, which are usually very rare. Here is what the keys are: Divine Beast Cave: tram oil (rare) Wise Owl Forest: sun dew (Quite Rare) Shipwreck: flapping fish (can be bought at fish store in queens) Sun and Moon Temple: Sorry I forgot the name (extremely rare) Moon Sea: bravery launch (rare) Gallery Of time: flapping duster (not in U.S version) =( Demon Shaft: chrystal eye (un-rare) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Battle Mode ----------- --------------- Life Meter (HP) --------------- The life meter is the most important feature in the game. If your life meter goes to zero your charector will automatically use revival powder that is attatched to your active item slot. If you do have one, that is. But if you do, you will be ressurected with half of your life points. But if you don't have one, your charector will collapse on the ground, and you will be asked to pay half of your money to be brought out of the dungeon. But you can use stand-in powder to change to one of your allies if you have some in your inventory. You can also restore HP by eating food. You just have to drag food from the inventory, and give it to the selected allies picture. Below are the eatable items and their effects: Bread: restores a small ammount of HP Cheese: Restores a medium ammount of HP Premium chicken: Restores all HP Mellow Bannana: restores all HP, but makes you feel thirsty Fluffy Doughnut: Increases Toan's defence by 7 points Fish Candy: Increases Xiao's defence by 7 points Grass Cake: Increases Goro's defence by 7 points Witch Parfait: Increases Ruby's defence by 7 points Scorpion Jerky: Increases Ungaga's defence by 7 points Carrot Cookie: Increases Osmond's defence by 7 points Fruit Of Eden: increases maximum HP by 10 points ----------------------- Weapon Hit Points (WHP) ----------------------- To keep your weapons, and to make stronger weapons, you must not brake them. If you brake your default weapon it won't brake, but the ABS and attatched gems or attatchments will be lost. But if you've broken a different sword, say my Sun Sword, it will dissapear and be banished to the void. You can repair it by a repair powder. Go to hte weapon inventory and press repair on the selected wepaon if you have any repair powder. Or you can put an auto-repair int he active-item-slot and yourweapon will be repaired whence it breaks. You can increase your weapons life by adding endurance attatchments. --------------------- Absortion meter (ABS) --------------------- Upon defeating a monster, your weapon will increase in ABS. When the ABS meter is filled, you can upgrade your weapon. Which will increase the attack by 1, the endurance by 1, and will absorb and add the attatched gems to its power. You may also upgrade your wepaon unconditionally with Powerup powder. Posessing this item will allow you to upgrade any weapon at the upgrade prompt, Also, the ABS meter is located under the WHP meter. ------------ Thirst Meter ----------- The thirst meter, which may not seem very vital, is infact almost as vital as your HP meter. The meter is indicated as a row of water droplets, and will slowly deplete. If the water meter has depleted, your charector willl slowly loose its HP. The water meter can be replenished by going into a spring in some dungeons, or by dragging water from the invintory and dragging it onto the selected charectors picture. Below are the drinkable items and thewir effects: Regular water: restores small ammount of thirst Tasty water: restores medium ammount of thirst Premium Water: restares all thirst Antidote Drink: makes poison go away Stamina Drink: stops all damage (except from the Dark Genie and The Demon Shaft) and will also temporarily increase the speed and attack stats on selected weapon Changing potion: Give to Xiao to change her into a cat warrior in Norune Village Gourd: Increases maximum thirst by 1 bead ----------------- Active Item Slots ----------------- The active item slots are represented in the top middle of the screen as three white pouches. You can fill the active item pouches with as much as 9 of the same type of throwing or certain recovery items in each pouch. But you can only equip 1 Dran's feather onto each puch. You can also fill the active item slots in the item menu by pressing the /\ button on the desired item. You can scroll through the items using < or > keys. And you can use them by pressing or holding the [] button. ----- Speed ----- Speed will affect the speed of your speed meter for your weapon which is displayed on the bottom left of the screen. You can increase the speed of your weapon by adding a speed attatchment to your weapon. The speed attatchments will affect how fast your wepaon speed meter will refill. ------ Damage ------ When your selected charector takes damage. It will be indicated by a red flash, and a number will appear above your charector indicating how much damage that he/she took. But you can also lower the ammount of damage taken by your charector a little bit by raising his/her defence, which can be raised by eating their favourite food, which I have indicated below as follows: TOAN: fluffy doughnut (umm! Donut =) XIAO: Fish Candy GORO: Grass Cake RUBY: Witch Parfait UNGAGA: Scorpion Jerky OSMOND: Carrot Cookie (umm! Carrot cookie =) You can also restore HP by eating as follows: Bread: restores a small ammount of HP Cheese: Restores a medium ammount of HP Premium chicken: Restores all HP Mellow Bannana: restores all HP, but makes you feel thirsty --------------- Charged Attacks --------------- Charged attacks do much more damage than your charectors regular attacks. You can use them by holding down the X button. When your charector flashes once, you can let go and perform your selected charectors special attack(s). The charge attacks for the charectors which can perform charge attacks are as follows: TOAN: Jump Slash (Windmill slash if flashes twice) GORO: Spin Smash RUBY: Charged Bolt UNGAGA: Tornado spin -------- Throwing -------- To throw an item that is attatched to an active item slot. Use the keys to select the item that you want to throw. Then press the [] button. But there are also 2 different ways to throw. The easiest is the auto-aim. You simply lock-on to an enemy then throw. OR, you hold down the [] button, then move the aiming ring around with the analog stick, and let go when satisfied with the aim. Also, don't use the elemental gems too much, because they really stink. Use the Bombs, the only things that they won't kill in one shot are those super scary dragons or something. But you can also use a bomb nut which deals half the damage. ---------------- Switching Allies ---------------- You can switch your allies by pressing the select button, or by selecting ' allies ' from the menu. Though you can't switch allies while not in dungeon, but they will sometimes pop up at some events that you have triggered. But even in some levels of the dungeons, you will not be allowed to switch charectors these are called limited zones. ------------- Limited Zones ------------- Limited Zones are floors that will either: loose ABS on weapons upon destroying enemy; and they can't be changed, you get thirstier, or you can only use a certain charector on the floor. --------------- Evolving Swords --------------- Evolving swords is an option that can evolve a sword into another weapon that can become more powerful than the previous weapon. It can be used by the Build-up command in the weapons menu. However there is a catch. To evolve a weapon, you must add the nescessary ammount and types of gems or attatchments. You can see which gems are needed by pressing X on the the build-up command, and then pressing X on one of the boxes which have ???? on them. The stats in red are the stats that need to be higher. Once none of the stats are in red, the name of the weapon that can be built up will take the place of one of the ????. Press X on it, then confirm. ============================================================================================ --------- 4 Dueling --------- Well, have you ever been duped on those duels. What is that cursed (!) for? I was stuck on my first duel like that. Well here's what you do. Firstly don't do anything when you see the (!). It is just a marker for where the transparent bar will be. So, after a few seconds, these replicas of your controller buttons will come zooming along the screen on a blue bar, when they hit the transparent bar in the middle, copy that replica. If you get them all right, you will clear the duel and continue your quest. But if you fail, don't worry, you can always try again on command. Except for when you duel Goro, you can come back later. Actually, duels are my favorite things in Dark Cloud, also, when my brother or sister gets to a duel, I dive for the controller, and try to wrestle it free from their grip. Also, if you get hit all of the buttons when they hit the smallest blue bar, you will get a reward. You know if you hit the button in the smallest bar, if it says "COOL" above the blue bar. ============================================================================================ ---------------- 5 The Charectors ---------------- --------------------- TOAN: boy from Norune --------------------- Description: This is your basic charector, he looks like he is about 13 in age. He wears an orange tunic, a green hat, brown shoes and gloves, and black pants. Default Weapon: Dagger Best Weapon: Chronicle 2 Favourite food: Fluffy Doughnut, rare My opinion: I think that he is the best short range fighter in the game. But it's hard to maintain his best weapons, because sometimes, when you get carried away in those combos, you forget how low your WHP is. So then your favorite sword breaks, and you're going to be extremely annoyed. Especially, if the last time that you saved was a couple levels ago. But if you just saved, then you can always reset your PS2. For instance, I was using my Macho Sword in the Sun and Moon temple, then it broke. Also, I hadn't saved for about seven levels, the last.. seven levels. I was extremely mad. But I could have used my Chrysknife+12. But I couldn't, because I Satus-breaked it. Which was incidentily, inside the Macho Sword at the time. So I had to use Goro's Battle Axe+6, which Im soon broke on level 16. DARN IRON GIANTS. At least I got the Sun Sword on level 17, which was stronger than those other ones I lost. PHEW! :) Special Abilities: can touch atla Name I gave: Shadow Man, Civergon99 -------------- XIAO: The cat -------------- Description: This is the second charector that you will find. You can obtain her by completing the duel with Seda on level eight in the Divine Beast Cave. Then a white cat will turn into an atla, which you must take and put it in your house. This will then trigger the event for your house. Then go to your floor and give the cat the changing potion. Then ya' got 'er. She also Wears a white dress, with white pants, a green bell, orange hair and brown boots. Default Weapon: Wooden Slingshot Best Weapon: Angel Gear Favourite food: Fish candy, semi-rare My Opinion: I think that she is the worst charector in the game. Her little slingshots really suck. That is, unless you find a 'hard shooter'. Which can be found in the gallery Of Time. Or you can just buld-up to the Angel Gear, which I haven't, cause it takes way too long. So I'm just sticking to my hard shooter, but still, it isn't very good. Special Abilites: can jump small holes Name I gave: Dopey $100 ---------------- GORO: The hunter ---------------- Description: He is the second storngest short range fighter. I usually use his charge attack on those big, slow, and strong monsters, because his charge attack does more damage, eats up less WHP, but is slower than Toan's Windmill slash though. He can be aquired by defeating him in a duel in mataki village, then bringing him the bone pendant from level 8 for defeating the Killer Snake. Default weapon: Giant Mallet Best Weapon: Inferno Favourite food: Grass Cake, more rare My Opinion: He is my second favourite short rang fighter. Be sure to get the Battle Axe for him by perfecting Mataki Village. The Battle Ax will be the best weapon for Goro, or for quit a while at least. Infact, one of the only times I got a stronger weapon than the Battle Ax, is when I got the sun Sword from Toto. So be sure to keep that Battle Ax safe. But preferably, if you get another Battle Ax in the Wise Owl Forest, use it, and dump the other. Because the Battle Ax that Treant gives you might have the fragile element on it. Special Abilities: can activate switches that you must press down Name I gave: Oyster Man --------------- RUBY: The genie --------------- Description: Is a genie with a pink blouse, blue pants, purple hair, and blue pants. She attacks with either rings or armlets. She can be aquired by triggering the event at King's house. Where King gives you a lamp, which you accidentily drop. Then everyone in the room gasps in fright. Embarrased, Toan picks it up. But is interrupted by the lamp spewing purple smoke everywhere, then Ruby pops out. After that, she becomes your ally. Default weapon: Gold Ring Best Weapon: Secret Armlet Favourite food: Whitch Parfait, very rare My opinion: I think that she is the second best long range fighter. She will also come to good use against strong monsters, because she has a good charge attack that only costs 2 WHP. It is still pretty good anyway. But watch out, the monsters that you will be fighting will soon start to block, which can be catastrophic in some ways, because then you will have to get one of your short ranged fighters in there, which in some cases will be either impossible, or just the fact that the monster is just too darn strong. Special abilites: can activate glowing chrystals, which will open their respective doors Name I gave: Sneezy$100, Ring Star ------------------------ UNGAGA: The sand warrior ------------------------ Description: He is a sand warrior who wears white pants, and a red belt. He can be obtained by completing the 3 sisters house. After being insulted by the eldest sister, Ungaga comes and talks to the 3 sisters for a while. Then he agrees to become an ally. Default Weapon: Fighting Stick Best Weapon: Babel's Spear Favourite Food: Scorpion Jerky, very rare My opinion: I think that he is the worst short range fighter. The only weapon that is really good is the five foot nail. Although it alone is pretty bad, but is has the critical element, and can destroy monsters in one shot. Although the chances are very slim, and I only saw it happen in the Demon Shaft at like level 80 when i synthysphered it onto my Chronicle Sword. Special abilities: can clear black fog with charge attack Name I gave: Diddely$10, Miskawasko ------------------------- OSMOND: The moon Inventor ------------------------- Description: Osmond wears: a multicolored scarf and hood, blue pants, white shirt, and a helipack. He can be obtained on level 8 of the Moon Sea where you see him lying on the ground. Then you poke him, in an instant, he bolts up, and starts mumbling to himself. After that, he asks you to come to his house. Then he becomes an ally. Default weapon: Machine Gun Best Weapon: Supernova Favourite food: Carrot Cookie, extremely rare My opinion: Osmond IS THE COOLEST CHARECTOR IN THE GAME! He is my favourite charector in long range, and is my absolute favourite charector in overall aswell. Sure his weapon eats up WHP, but he's still cool! Specia abilities: can fly over any gap as cake Name I gave: Hare Lord, Carrot Top (he's a rabbit, he eats carrots!) ============================================================================================ --------- 6 Weapons --------- ----------------------- 1) Weapons Introduction ----------------------- Weapons are the most important attribute in Dark Cloud. Without good weapons. Your enemies will be able to land more blows onto you. So you will need to level-up your weapons to make it less likely that an enemy will land a blow onto you. Here, in this section, I will tell you how to level up. First off. Get yourself a good weapon. A good weapon to start off with in the Divine Beast Cave, is the Chopper. It is a tier 2 weapon. Which means that it has allready been evolved. But you will still be able to pick up this wepaon. So if you find this weapon. When you pick up this weapon, you should immedietly begin to start adding gems that are needed to evolve this sword. (see ch.3; evolving swords) Also, if you don't have the gems or attatchments you need to evolve the sword. Put in different gems or attatchments to strengthen your weapon in different ways. The chopper will eventually evolve into the Choora, then the Maneater, next the Atlamilla Sword, and then the Chronicle Sword! This is the best weapon in the game, untill you beat the boss at the end of the Demon Shaft. But you don't have to keep this weapon. When you get to Mataki Village, and you have completed the Wise Owl Shop. You may buy the Wise Owl Sword for 2500 gilda. This sword may be evolved into the Lamb Sword, then the Atlamilla Sword, and then the Chronicle Sword. This is an ideally fast route. But your previous weapon may allready be stronger. So if you want to continue with your first weapon, you may continue. But, in Queens, when I was trying to evolve my Choora. I ran out of magic attatchments. So I had to Synthesphere the Wise Owl Sword onto my Choora. This took a loooong time. Because my Wise Owl Sword stunk against those fish creatures. I had to stuff it with lightning attatchments for a long time untill I was able to get a decent chunk of life out of those fishies. But it paid off. Now I have a juiced up Atlamilla Sword at the second level of the Gallery Of time. But when I evolved my Wise Owl Sword instead. I ended up with a super-powered-up Chronicl Sword+22 in level 61 of the Demon Shaft! But I got it somwhere on level 8. Now enough of that evolving lecture. Even if you do have a superpowered weapon. It's not going to get you real far if you don't have strategies to use against certain monsters. So try as hard as you can to think up on strategies to use against your foes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- 2) How to use your weapon ------------------------- -------------- Dealing damage -------------- Allright how to use your weapon. Let's see, you can operate your weapon by pressing the X button. You can also perform combos or signature maneuvers. To perform a combo just keep on tapping the X button. But be warned! Sometimes, by using combos your weapon may break easier if your weapon is taking more damage than you imagined, and you can't stop combos! Below are the methods of the charectors combos: Toan: 4 side slashes and powered chop slash (5 taps) Xiao: Unagile Goro: Unagile Ruby: Unagile Ungaga: a chop slash and two sweep slashes Osmond: hold down X for rapid assault with machine guns Now signature moves may be performed by holding down the X button untill your charector flashes blue. Your weapon will also take extra WHP for using this combo but will deal more damage to enemies. Your charectors charge will also stop if they take enough damage to make them fall over. Below, are the charectors methods and combos: Toan: Jump Slash, Windmill Slash (2 flashes for winmill slash and deals many hits) Xiao: Delay shot (no flash needed or extra WHP) Goro: windmill smash and powered smash Ruby: Powered bolt (slower shot than normal but more powerful) Ungaga: Wind spin (stops when X is no longer pressed)(no flash needed)(eats up WHP terribly) Osmond: Unagile You can also lock-on to monsters or bosses by pressing the () button. When locked on. Your charector will always face the monster or boss, and chances of missing on an attack will be less. Especiall with a ranged fighter. Locking on will aslo display the monster's HP. You can also switch between monsters or bosses by pressing R1. Note that if you are too far away you will not be able to lock-on or your lock-on will fail. ----------- Leveling Up ----------- You can level up any of your weapons by selecting wepaons from the menu you can then view weapon statistics by highlighting the desired weapon. To go the weapons options menu, press X upon desired highlighted weapon. Note that you can switch between allies weapon statistics by pressing L1 or R1. When you get to the weapon options menu, you are given a list of options. Which are: Equip: selected charector will wield selected weapon if pressed customize: view and customize weapon statistics Attribute: Change weapons attribute Repair: Uses repair powder to restore WHP Upgrade: Fuses attatched gems into weapon and increases level Status Break: Turns selected weapon into synthysphere Build-up: Turns weapon into more powerful form Now I will explain what each of these buttons do. Well, equip. Well the name says it all, doesn't it? -Now with customize. It will take you to a screen where you can view the statistics for your weapon, and where you can add weapon attatchments, synthysphers, or gems to modify the statistics of your weapons. You can also view Different pages by pressin L1 or R1. -By pressing attribute, you will be able to change the attribute of attack that you are causing to monsters. In some cases, using an attribute will raise the altogether damage to a monster that you're attacking if it is the correct attribute. But if it is the wrong attribute. You may end up doing no damage at all. Or by doing less. Say, if you were attacking a Cursed Rose. You'd want to attack it with the HOLY attribute. Also, in some cases attributes won't work at all on weapons. So you will have to take it off. But with some weapons you won't be able to. -Repairing your weapon is a vital attribute to Dark Cloud. See, as you go farther into the game. The monsters will get tougher. So if you keep on breaking your weapon. You will never be able to make your weapons better by adding gems or whatever. Then that will make killing the monsters harder and threfore making it impossible to beat the game at the rate that you're going at. So if you repair your weapon by buying repair powder and pressing the repair powder you can restore your weapon's WHP therefore allowing you to add gems and stuff to strengthen your weapons and therfore making it easier to kill enemy monsters. -To upgrade your weapon, you must achieve full ABS on the selected weapon. Then you may upgrade your weapon. This will fuse the attatched gems into the weapon. Therefore allowing you to add more gems, and it will also raise the level of your weapon by one level. But you can also unconditionally upgrade your weapon by posessing power-up powder. -Status break can only be used if your weapon has achieved level five or higher. You can tell what level your weapon by the title of the weapon. Next to the title there will be a plus sign and then the level. But your weapon will only go to the next level by upgrading it. (see above for upgrading issues.) When you status break your weapon, it will take form as a gem and may be attatched to a weapon. If attatched the weapon will recieve 60% of the status broken weapon's stats. -To buil-up your weapon (evolve your weapon) you must first attatch the nescessary ammount and type of gems to the selected wepapon. This may take a long time. Because you will need to upgrade many times to attatch the nescesasary ammount and type of gems. You can tell what you need to attatch by pressing X upon build-up and then press X upon one of the ????? butoons. They will indicate which stats need to be increased by displaying them in red. You can also scroll through the different pages with R1 or L1. When none of the stats are red press X on the ???? box which will then read the name of the new weapon. Then confirm and your weapon will then evolve into a better weapon. It is vital to add am variety of gems to your weapons. Attatchments are cheap and distinctive. But gems give a lot more stats. But you can't be sure which ones. You ca find out by going to customize, and attatch it on the first page, and see which ones go up. Then take it off and go to the next page (use L1 or R1) then put it in and see which ones go up and so on. Or you can just look below to see for yourself: Amethyst +10 Ice, +10 Anti-Dragon and Anti-Mage Aquamarine +10 Ice, +10 Anti-Sky and Anti-Marine Diamond +10 Anti-Metal, +5 vs. All Other Creature Types Emerald +10 Magic, +10 Anti-Dragon and Anti-Plant Garnet +5 Attack, +10 Fire, +10 Anti-Beast and Anti-Stone Opal +10 Endurance, +10 Anti-Metal and Anti-Mage Pearl +10 Endurance, +10 Thunder, +10 Anti-Undead Peridot +5 Attack, +10 Holy, +10 Anti-Beast and Anti-Plant Ruby +10 Speed, +10 Fire, +10 Anti-Mimic Sapphire +10 Magic, +10 Wind, +10 Anti-Sky Topaz +5 Attack, +10 Speed, +10 Anti-Undead and Anti-Sky Turquoise +10 Ice, +10 Anti-Stone and Anti-Mimic Sun +10 Attack, +10 All Elements, +3 All Anti-Creature Stats These gems can be aquired by either buying them from the fairy king at Dark Heaven Castle for 3000 gilda a piece. Or by finding them in backfloors. But the sun gem which gives the most stats of them all can only be aquired by: 1. complete Coscou's house in Mataki Village and take the lollipop. 2. Complete Bunbuku's house in Mataki Village, give him the lollipop, and get the ointment leaf. 3. complete the Baskar's house in Queens, give him the ointment leaf, and get the foundation. 4. Complete Jibubu's house in Muska Racka. Come at dawn say yes to his question and give him the Foundation to get the clay doll. 5. Find tha artifact guy in Yellow Drops. (when you get out from the Moon Ship, he'll be right in front of a rock archway right in front of you) give him the clay doll, say yes and get the sun. It is also good to add elemental attatchments: FIRE, ICE... They can be boughten for 300 gilda, or can be found in backfloors, and can be dropped by monsters. If used correctly, they can do extra damage to a monster. You can use thes attatchments by changing the attribut on your weapon to the desired attribute. But remember, the more the attatchments the more the effect, and if you're using the wrond attribute. You may deal no damage, or deal less damage. Here is the list of what attributes to use on certain monsters: |____| |Key:| |____|_____________ |Monster ñ COUNTER| |_________________| Wind - THUNDER Tip: Use the attributes in Fire - ICE Evil/Undead ñ HOLY CAPS against each of Ice - FIRE Thunder - WIND the six different ones. You can also add anti-monster attatchments to your weapon. They are not as vital, but can come in handy. They can be boughten for 300 gilda, dropped by monsters, found in backfloors, or given to you. If you have attatched a number of undead buster attatchments say. Any time you hit a zombie or skeleton or evil monster. Extra damage will be dealt to them. But remember, the more the attatchments, the more the damage dealt. Now remember, if you want to make it easier for you to progress through the game. You must JAMM THOSE FRICKIN' GEMS INTO THAT WEAPON OF YOURS OR PAY THE CONSEQUENCES! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- 3) Evolution Strategies ----------------------- Allright, the best sword that you canever hope to have untill you beat the boss at the end of the Demon shaft is the Chronicle Sword. But you can have the Sword Of Zeus, or the 7th heaven sword. But they aren't the best. If you want any of those swords. Don't talk to me about them. Because I don't specailize in any of those swords. Because I prefer the better swords, and I don't care if it takes so long to get the better swords. I don't just take the easy route to final Tier. Hey, AndrenalineSL and Azeroth. I know you read other people's walkthroughs so read this: Why do you only have your stinki'n Sword Of Zeus that's way at the bottom of the Ultimate Swords list. While I have the sword that's at the top. Which is the mighty Chronicle Sword. While the only things that aren't maxed out is ICE and some of the anti-monster stats. Ha ha! Oh, and I can hear you spazing out. Well, now that I'm done taunting the garbage. There are three ways to get the Chronicle Sword. The first way, is to obtain the rare chopper inside the Divine Beast cave. You could also get a kitchen knife or Gladius here or a Jack's shop in Queens to build it up into the chopper. But why waste time. Though the Chopper is quite rare. Well, anyways. If you keep on jamming those gems into your sword. You will eventually be able to evolve it into the Choora, then the maneater, next the Atlamilla Sword, and finally... the mighty Chronicle Sword! But if you don't want to start too early. You can buy the Wise Owl Sword at the Wise Owl Shop in the Mataki village. The Wise Owl Sword can evolve into the Lamb Sword, then the Atlamilla Sword, and then the Chronicle Sword. This method is probably the most ideal way, because it is the shortest route, and you have been given time to get better at Dark Cloud and to start to raise a higher rate of money so you can buy the gems needed without running short of money for buying life suport items. Now this route I haven't tried this route, but I know it can be done. You can obtain the Macho Sword for perfecting Queens. Then you can evolve it into Aga's Sword, then the Atlamilla Sword, and then the Sword Of Chronicles. (Chronicle Sword) Now there's one last way to get the Chronicle Sword. I just got this from another walkthrough. But ohwell. Well, you can get the Shasmir in Wise Owl Forest. Or the Sax in the Divine beast cave. (sax is quite rare) But you can also evolve the Kitchen Knife into the Shasmir, and the Baselard into the Sax (baselard is quite common) But you can also get the tier two weapons. Why waste time. Then you can evolve them into the Dusack, then the 7 branch sword, (can be obtained in Gallery of Time; but is quite rare) then the Atlamilla sword, and finally.. well, you know. O.K. do I have to spell it out for you? C-H-R-O-N-I-C-L-E-S-W-O-R-D. There, the Chronicle Sword. Happy now? Now, when you've beaten the Black Knight in the demon Shaft. You will aquire a Chronicle 2. The souped up version of the Chronicle Sword. Now if you've maxed out the Chronicle Sword completely, then synthysphere your chronicle sword, and put it into the Chronicle 2. Then it will be completely maxed out! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- 4) Weapon Stats Chart --------------------- This is a chart that will show the maximum stats for each weapon. Other statistics are unknown to me. This chart was also taken from AndrenislS and Azeroth's walkthorugh because making my own would be pointless when I have the weapons chart from other walkthroughs right in front of me. Well here goes. I've put together the quickest path from the Macho Sword to the Chronicle Sword without using any SynthSphere attachments. Here is a list of the gems to attach to efficiently build up each weapon into the next best weapon. -= Macho Sword =- Diamond x6, Peridot x3, Ruby x2, Sapphire x1, Pearl x3 -= Aga's Sword =- Garnet x1, Ruby x1, Aquamarine x1, Amethyst x3, Sapphire x3, Pearl x6 -= Atlamillia Sword =- Garnet x3, Aquamarine x2, Sapphire x3, Peridot x6 Using the gems outlined above you should be able to build up the Macho Sword after four upgrades but should take up one more level to infuse more gems in the sword, saving steps later on when building up the Atlamillia Sword. The same applies to the Aga's Sword which will also be able to build up within four upgrades but should be taken up another level as well which will allow you to build up the Atlamillia Sword after the fifth upgrade, giving you the Chronicle Sword in fifteen total upgrades. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X I A O Default Weapon: Wooden
