| Hey - I happened to like Most Wanted. Granted, I can't say the same for any of the other NFS games of the past 7 years or so, but I still play the hell out of MW. Clearly my love of driving games sits squarely in the arcadey realm of things, and the more the game leans toward realism, the less it has my attention. I've always given the NFS series the benefit of the doubt, though, so I'm sure to give this one a shot. | |

| wait - through the whole review you're comparing it to Stranglehold, ODST and Wanted, which all made sense. Then right at the end you put it up against ODST (an FPS) and Batman AA (stealth/brawler mashup thing)? Why don't you throw in NFS:Shift for a completely batshit comparison? | |

| I will buy this game. and for one reason: to find out why a woman so badass that she can handle 4 guns at once, turn her own hair into giant living instruments of creative death, and take down monsters the size of your average midwestern town HAS SUCH POOR EYESIGHT AS TO REQUIRE CORRECTIVE EYEWEAR. I mean seriously, glasses? Can't she just conjure up some 20/20 vision? Maybe it's protective eyewear. like goggles to keep all those monster guts from flying into her eyes. | |

| This list had so much potential, but kind of petered out with the top 2. I mean, sequels have been around forever - how many Marios are we up to now? And talking? what the eff? Maybe it should've been a top five. I have to agree with the rest of it though. | |

| Also, hearing Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn saw the words "Mr. J." almost brought tears of fanjoy to my eyes. Yes I'm probably a bigger fan of the killer cartoon series than anything else bat related, but I think it just shows how this game touches every corner of the Batman universe. Well, every good corner, anyway. The batsuit doesn't have nipples, or Ahnuld as Dr. Freeze. Life is good. | |

| Hey Jordo141, you need to check out their review of the latest Watchmen episodic game to see the shortest. This definitely has more words, and more pictures to stretch it out. The screens make it look like something completely different from fallout - did it start out as a different game that they knew sucked too much to sell on its own? | |

|
| the original gameplay for Conviction wasn't so much "new" as it was "Assassin's Creed starring Sam Fisher as The Homeless Unshaven Dude Standing in for Altair". From the look of the videos they're accomplishing exactly what they're hyping - "active stealth"; taking that "hiding in shadows" mechanic beyond what they thought they could. It's got my attention big time. All they had to retain from the early Conviction work is Sam in civvies and I'd have been sold. They did and I am. | |

| This doesn't surprise me. Especially in the 8-bit era, it seemed like everything was developed be the same 5 or 10 people. You could tell a sprite or a MIDI from Konami/Ultra, Capcom, Nintendo, or Sunsoft without even having to know the game. And "Vampire Killer" is the most epic 8-bit track ever - every game should have it as an easter egg. I had it as my ringtone, dammit! |

|
| I thought for sure that the "Ecto-1 handles like a dead Transformer" line would link to the Transformers review. That would've been good cross-promo right there. Instead of cheaply cashing in on the hype surrounding a movie, they tried to cheaply cash in on the hype surrounding a game, which is resurrecting a license that's been unused in over a decade, based on a 20 year-old movie. Not only is that cynical, but it's the kind of logical black hole that could collapse the gaming industry in on itself. |

| @shadowless: I don't think Assassin's Creed and inFamous were in the sampling of box art. If they were though, inFamous shows the dude's face. @Jabba: good points! You could say the same thing about the games themselves as you've said about the box art. Which is one big step forward for gaming: box art nowadays is far more honest than boxart from older gaming generations. |

| Prey seems out of place on this list. The changes were made mostly due to technology constraints, not style and design ideas. It's a departure from TF1, yes, but not what the column's about. |

sixboxes commented on: Beyond Good & Evil 2 (PS3): Is this Beyond Good & Evil 2 footage? |
|
| Just for the sake of playing devil's advocate, this being BG&E 2 footage is more plausible than it first seems. This reminds me of a couple of the chase scenes from the first game that were incredibly cinematic, but still totally playable. And perhaps the only example in gaming where you have the character running AT the screen in a chase sequence and IT WORKS. The first game was also an exercise in context-sensitive gameplay, where one button did 90% of the work, especially in action sequences. Essentially, when the pace picks up, the gameplay streamlines itself so as not to get in the way. Because of that, you can definitely have these intense action sequences and still be in control of them. The BG&E was capable of having interesting camera angles while making the game still controllable. I have faith that they could pull off a sequence like this in-game. After all this though, I think it's a target render too. Just one that's closer to the real deal than we all want to believe. |

| I'm pleased! I pegged 2 of the best Marios - SMW and SMB3. I have to agree as well, though the colour palette from SMB3 always seemed a little off. His animation from these two games was the ultimate as well. I have to go with netlatnu on this too - the Allstars version of the SMB3 Mario was like the best of both worlds, even it's it a touch of cheating. Can someone explain, though, how becoming a doctor magically lightens Mario's hair? Is it _really_ him in the Dr. Mario games? |

|
| Bit of a catch-22 for this game... with its "cheating" gimmick you're thinking "omg it's weird and different and might not work!" but without, it's "yawn, just another RTS out of a billion to choose from". Sure you say you're giving it the benefit of the doubt, but if you sounded any more cynical, you could be a financial analyst. By the way, the random bolding of sentences reminds me of the original Austin Powers... "after the unfreezing process I'm having trouble controlling THE VOLUME OF MY VOICE!" - I keep mentally reading those bolded passages at higher volume. (p.s. recaptcha = world flesh mmm tasty!) |

Considering you scored the game higher than I would've scored the movie it's sorta-based on, that actually makes it a bit promising. The movie gleefully beats a single gimmick to death (I honestly thought the bending bullet thing was bad ass until the 853rd time they used it in the flick at which point I was "*&$%# AGAIN???"), whereas it looks like the game beats 2 or 3 gimmicks to death. So I'm officially intrigued. |
