New Halo: Reach commercial is so pretentious we want to gouge out our eyes and rip off our ears
Didn't find this ad too bad, but I preferred the ODST ad. I think the problem is that the ads are so seperated from the actual reality of the games. And I haven't read any of the novels, but last time I checked they weren't written by the writers for Halo, so I would be cautious in accepting them as cannon, or indeed indicative of the series. The true series is the games, and they are not that deep. @CoryRX8 Your critising a game because it used limited technology to tell a story? And the fact that you see the start, instead of been chucked into the middle of everything? Maybe you should be more observant. There is a lot of well done story and presentation in the Half Life series. One of the best stories in games. It might not have as many names and history as others, but that does not make a good story. Any smuck can make a story with 200 characters alive and dead, but it takes true story tellers to make the audience care about them. To not have to tell everything, but leave subtle clues. And the time taken to make episodes? I dun't know, maybe it's all the updates to their game engines, the readjusting for macs and the sequels to other games that are keeping them busy. It isn't random stuff just because you can't understand it, whether you are meant to or not. Yes, some people have really taken to town on small details, but maybe they do have importance that will be explained in the next episode?

I am in complete agreement. I prefer my games to be a little meaty, but if it drags on, then it's better to cut the excess. Portal was the right length. I also though TWEWY was a good length, and still has re-playability thanks to it's extra missions/chapter select.

7 things the new Kingdom Hearts needs to be great again
I disagree with a lot of the points. I really enjoy the series and thought two was a improvement to one, which in its own right was awesome. And the shady organisation is actually tying to something that occurred before one which is connected to the triggers for kingdom hearts one. And if they changed the combat style to something like bayonetta's, it would annoy me because: a) it would be unoriginal b) it changes it from an action RPG just to action. I also preferred Sanctuary/Passion to Simple and Clean. Suited it more. Though more orignal voice actors from the movies and more square enix characters are awesome. And it's almost definite that they are going to be late-teens or adult, just by looking at the jump between one and two. I would like to see some more original worlds and music too, since they turn out pretty great

How gritty western obsessions are murdering Japanese games
I agree. I like the Japanese style and their focus on story. Western games aren't bad, but compare the Western RPGs to JRPGs. Western RPGs get more acclaim, but story-wise they're a lot less creative, a lot less epic. They focus on sandbox which gets boring after a while. And the Japanese seem willing to mix up things on the visual front, while I don't really want to see another series with a overlarge hero who speaks in grunts and rasps

@gojiguyar Yes, they do have a few games (the best is debatable, almost laughably so) but that is out weighed by the megaton of shovelware that rakes in this money they get. No to mention that Nintendo basically has ditched their hardcore fan base, a mistake made in the 80's which lead to a market crash. You know, the one Nintendo was the first to recover. How? By making great games. The Wii however repeats their predecessors' mistake of making shoddy games for a quick profit. It wont last forever. And you've mentioned, like, 5 games. Some of them aren't even out yet. IT is not "butthurt", it is quite true. ReCaptcha: politicians buttocks ...what?

Are JRPGs dead?
I think some of it is bull though. Especially when people go on about innovations of western games. Most of them feature the same character (marine/soldier/mecenary)and feature lots of guns. When there is an innovation, every other company makes it cliche. And western RPGs are largely set in similar environments with similar stories. There is a need for change in JRPGS, but I don't think the problem is that dire. And how is the teenage character thing common> I have only seen it in 2 of the JRPGs I played and 2 i haven't. And before anyone claims I'm biased, I like to point out ALL opinions are, that is why they are opinions and not facts

However, I disagree with the Kefka thing. He was a good villain, but he was the type who was pathetic until he got the ultimate power. Sephiroth was always intimidating. It is NOT okay to use a method that kills a lot of enemies if it means you have next to no chance of dying from the enemy. Mechanics where armour that is zombie proof.
