As I mentioned above the world is Nirn. That's actually what it's supposed to say but I made a flub since I was looking at notes relating to Oblivion. The worlds name is mentioned in several books in previous games. I was trying to refer to the world since Alduin is known as "The World Eater" and just ended up typing Cyrodiil instead of Nirn.
This takes place two hundred years after the last games, no prior knowledge is necessary. Plus the game explains all of the relevant stuff like the Emperors, dragons and basically everything else. If something confuses you there's probably an in game book that explains everything.
The Wood Elves make FANTASTIC stealth characters. I'm playing one to do the guides since their bow skill makes dragon hunting much, much easier. The Khajiit are pretty awesome in this one but I think the Wood Elf is by and far the best for combat stealth.
Here's the thing, IGN's guide is using the old stats to describe some of the races. This is no longer a factor. Nords are no longer raging beasts full of HP due to having high Stamina. In this they're almost designed to be like Viking Berserker types, wearing light armor so they move quickly with a pair of axes and chop fools to pieces. My Nord is hell on wheels wielding two enchanted Orcish war axes and wearing a set of Scaled Light armor. Battlecry is overrated - all of the abilities are actually. The Shouts are infinitely stronger.
And honestly, as a game reviewer myself, who the hell wants to put yourself through that enough to reshape the average? I'd love to change that whole 4 point scale crap that goes on, and refuse to stick to it, but one can only handle so many Balls of Fury Wii games before you climb a clock tower with a sniper rifle.
So basically the only way this would have worked is if they did what they did with Duke Nukem (ie. throw out a bunch of money for a game that was only going to appeal to the monkeys out there)? Uh, I guess so?
These guys are seriously smoking something. Hell I'm known for actually deleting my own saves at points to allow me to start from scratch on my own games, much less someone elses progress. So basically even someone like myself might be screwed over if I decided to buy it second hand like I do with most of my portable games.
Actually I think the problem is that some of us out there are so confused that there are so many man-children out there that are so amused by being able to throw feces and fake, rubbery looking titties. People keep talking about video game critics being on high horses - maybe the problem is that you guys are enjoying playing in the sewer. We're not putting ourselves above you, you're lowering yourselves to playing with human waste so you're the ones choosing to be lower.
Name calling and giving games bad reviews for no reason has worked out just fine for Destructoid so far so I see no reason other sites shouldn't get in on the fun.
I do also love how people like to give game reviewers huge amounts of shit for their opinions then they like to devalue the reviewers work by stating that it's just an opinion. Well obviously it's a helluva opinion if it's got you so butthurt over it.
And no, he didn't bring up his book review that little blurb is appended to all reviews written on Joystiq as part of the writers credits. But clearly that's too much effort for the game developers to notice. Clearly they're too busy having little spats with people who don't like their crappy games to actually develop anything worth a damn.
Here's my review of... oh wait, no never mind. I have a sense of dignity. And this thing was just beyond terrible. Anyone who seriously thinks that this was anything more than a slightly below average game has clearly never played a video game before.
I'm gonna make a point here and it's something that these guys are likely not going to understand. When you make a game like this where you're trying to draw in the crowd from the previous two Modern Warfare games. You know who this brings in? The elitists and the douches.
The elitists aren't even close to being "the voice" of the gamer crowd and if thin skinned programmers let this get to them then they need to find another occupation. I know how aggravating it can be when someone tears down your work but these aren't people, these are just whiny internet trolls trying to use the anonymity of the net to make themselves feel good. If that gets to you then I'm sorry but game over man.
Remember those guys you went to school with who always thought they were king shit? Those guys who had something to say about everything everyone else did so it would make them feel better? Well they're playing your game, so congrats. Those jerks are going to give you, and the other gamers, grief over just about every little thing.
All about atmosphere without cheap gimmicks or cliches? The games are riddled with cliches. The only thing that keeps them from being just another FPS is the fact that they have good level design and the gravity gun. Oh and a few really awesome levels. The fan film isn't all that great and I'd have taken more gunfights over stupid kung fu fights but lets not pretend that Half Life is some redefinition of a genre or anything.
The wording they use for the level up system confuses me a bit. Is it like the older games, just with the class system removed or is it something newer they're doing? It kind of sorta sounds like a modified version of the previous system but I'm not sure if I'm reading it wrong.
Look, I really like you guys at GR. I really do. So it'd be a real shame if I had to hunt you and the guy you gave this to down some weekend. In a cold dark alley. With a tire iron. So ya know, here's hoping I win this one. :D
