X-Men Destiny (Xbox 360): X-Men Destiny reveals more mutations with new set of screens
I sat patiently through the turgid, lengthy development of the risible Too Human, I put up with DD's stupid statements about the game pre release and when it finally dropped I played it through too-I STILL never lost hope , even then. After that I heard SK were doing this and hoped for an amazing X-men game until I heard all the details of the half arsed way you aren't going to either be able to be a proper X-man OR fully tailor your own character either and having SEEN bits of the game I'm even more underwhelmed. Now, I don't know if the hope has died as it's been a LONG time with no titbits of good news to fuel any fresh hope for a sequel that EVERY sane gamer over five wants-ED2. Drop this quickly, get out of the mess and allow us fans to chip in towards making a new Eternal Darkness game, yes, Den?

RAGE (PS3): RAGE's mandatory install on PS3 is... HUGE
@bladedfalcon-Exactly, if installing helps with load times, FPS and so on why is it reported as such a big deal when there's a mandatory on PS3? I've had games on 360 installed in,. what, five minutes or so and, using Alan Wake as an example, i'd say I ended up on the winning side , time wise and quality wise, over my mate who runs off disc with his 4gig slim. Honestly, I feel if you added up the lengths of his loads they'd out do my install plus loads by a decent length of time over the length of the game as they were(load screens) so much quicker to get through with the game installed. five minutes at the start to cut total loads down from twenty minutes(for example) to ten with the added performance bonus in tear and FPS etc on top(pop in too)-who wouldn';t install who had the room?

RAGE (PS3): RAGE's mandatory install on PS3 is... HUGE
Are we really saying this is either news or(just the same as pointless crying about multiple discs for gamers on 360-also no issue)a pain of unthinkable magnitude for PS3 gamers? I'm used to BIG installs on PC for great games, I'm someone who ALWAYS installs EVERY game I can on 360 (my old shape Elite still scratches the odd disc and the less work it does the better)and someone who WISHES you got that option more often on PS3 rather than just this half way house whenever a PC heavy developer comes along unused to optimal use of PS3 hardware. I'm not digging iD there just saying it's no shock a PC dev would use the short cut of an install on PS3 given they don't work on it often. Also, iD have said this ensures there will be NO pop in on PS3 and the console versions will be, like all decent releases these days, near identical as possible. Play on PC if you are that bothered about graphics and have the rig to do it justice(I probably will)or play it on whichever console you like/own/prefer the controller for as it's going top be a good game on all platforms and look good too. If, however, you hate installs I'd just not play it at all as it'll need one to be it's best WHATEVER you play it on and I'm praying for a full install option on 360 top avoid too much disc changing-as apparently, like five minutes for PS3 fans, these kind of things are game breaking!!! FFS. FIND proper news, yes? If I could fully install EVERY game I could to help the hardware and improve how the game runs I'd do it and this install is for those reasons and on 360 it's a multiple disc game so installing there will be the order of the day as it always has been on PC. where's the issue?

Great that more people will get to play these incredibly moving, emotion raising experiences. For me, though, it's going to make the wait feel even longer for the next TI game.

Pretty cool, though.

Classic game appreciation section: Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Great game, for sure, and even Orta was pretty cool but as I knew you couldn't resist wailing on Lair(and I was right. you couldn't)I feel a bit let down. Sure, it was a mistake not to release Lair with both sets of controls(I actually LIKE the Sixaxis ones best myself, mind, though I can obviously see why people hated them as they're very twitchy and only someone a bit odd, like myself(and I'm not professing any skill goes into it-I'm purely a bit odd)will prefer them to "normal"pad inputs)but had Sony done that, had the game also had a mini-map or "radar" of some kind to tell you if you'd got turned around in flight combat and re-released it wth a trohy patch I fail to see it getting the bad reputation it now has. Lair isn't as good a game as this, certainly not for it's day, but it's not the disaster it's made out to be and is eminently playable for ANYONE now they patched the controls and a patch for trophies could and would allow a new appraisal of the game which was a bit unfairly tagged a fail of the Haze variety and I thin there's some good in there-some of the levels from stealth to balls out attacks are good, it looks good even today and sounds AMAZING. I guess I expected a dig,it came and seemed a bit unnecessary to me, that's all. Not putting cold water on the Panzer Dragoon parade at all-one of my fave games on Saturn and, yeah, there aren't many good dragon games and there should be-it's just that Lair was a better effort than most give crediot for and but for a couple of, admittedly big, oversights it could have been respectable at worst and others would find it, as I do, a pretty cool game. Not what was promised but, equally, not the mess it was made out to be either, not in my book.

I would have probably bought this for my PS3, if I'm being honest, but feel EVERYONE should kick them up the arse for doing this again. Even those without the possibility of playing it on PC shopuld asack buying itr FOR them. Support each other and , just maybe, the industry won't be so over entitled and try to make us feel sorry for them over used sales when a lot of us work in other industries that cope with, and see the benewfits OF, second hand sales. As a muso I also have money stolen from me and my kids via piracy and I don't insist on some mental DRM that punishes the legit buyers(in this case gamers)to make me feel a bit better about it.. They don't deserve our cash if they treat gamers like this and some solidarity over DRM and online passes etc would be a start to showing them we aren't as soft a target as they think and won't merely bend over and say "cheers" after each shafting they dish out in bizarrely misguided piracy curbing attempts or ways to claim used sales cash when they haven't made games good enough to effin well keep! They ignore any possible benefit of used sales(allowing for poor gamers, often students, to stay with gaming during their early adult years rather than going to other hobbies, building new fans of genres, series etc which wouldn't ever be risked at full price or even keeping the online portion of a game well populated and full servers are a great ad for your next game and if a used sale makes someone hooked they will buy the next, more than likely, anyway!)or decent ways(longer/more game trials?)of attacking piracy by doing these things which also serve to give pirates good PR("look!", they can say," the industry is SOOO greedy! Why not try out a torrent? They expect us to pay for games with all this crap? They cry about used sales when no one else does and gaming's a dear hobby ANYWAY!")which stops US being on the same anti piracy side(we turn a blind eye as we get shafted by the industry)as the industry which is the first step to stopping it-which is what we should all be working towards through better understanding of each other.

Mega Man is dead, and why that’s a good thing
Another JS piece calculated to annoy fans of a certain game purely to enlarge his own ego. Usually I concede that he writes his formulaic bait pretty well but, this time, even the language is shoddy. Mainly, with the actual issue, i just feel Capcom led people on and that's why people are annoyed-and just WHAT did they expect of fan input? It's not like they handed out access to any tools worth making much with and asking for gamers to do their job, beyond vague and opposing ideas is always going to be MORE work than just doing a bit of market research, showing the first/alpha to select fans and seeing what they think is right and wrong with the plan. This way they just asked for fighting from the start then act shocked when a complete game hasn't leapt into reality for them-seriously, though, just what were Capcom after as it seems to me that they just didn't have a clue. Given that this is a company who seem to have gone downhill on everything that isn't MH or a fighting game on the SF engine(HOW much SF will they release with HOW much on disc DLC?)this generation(even mnew IP like DR or LP have got worse after semi promising first efforts and the less said about the way RE has been exploited across platforms the better)a clueless aproach is little shiock-Christ, they gave NT DMC to revoot FFS. Why expect any sense or anthing good and new from them in this day and age? Even Dragon's Dogna looks pants. I think they're lost when it comes to story based games and any franchise that doesn't involve monster hunting or street fighting(or it's close relatives) they are totally at sea. Why would we think Capcom would do anything great with MM these days anyway? they probably asked the fans just in the hope they'd give them enough rope and, it seems, they succeeded. Jim, though, just did his usual, lazy piece where he hopes to get hits by being abrasive and then feeds off the vitriol in the comments. I'm a bit sick of Jim AND Capcom even if I DO accept, though he got there for bollox reasons and didn't need to enjoy pissing on MM fans chips so very much, he has a point when it comes it being time to put MM out to pasture-though thinking MM hasn't been milked already is amazingly naive or plain ignorance of the sheer number of MM games foisted on us over the years-and Capcom probably had more IP than Sega TO rotate so to see MM with more games than Sonic s a bit off. Cap[com have gone from being my favourite Japanese publisher/dev house in every other(or nearly) gen to being the most listless and aimless(worse than sE for me as , at least, i loved CC and TWEWY on their respective handhelds!)I can imagine-they bother making CTYD and marketed THAT while when they actually make the BEST third party Wii game ever they fail to realise they've done it and Zack and Wiki drops through existence without a blink., let alone anything LIKE an ad!

PAYDAY: The Heist (PC): PAYDAY: The Heist – How to steal $8 million from a drug dealer
You know what two things this needs to be REALLY cool on console? Mod support(even if it's just like the support we got for taking things from PC over to PS3 for UT3)and a decent price. To me the 360 versions of the L4D games were just too light on content, too expensive and by lacking the mods which kept a great game fresh on PC it also rendered itself short on any real value. I won't even go into the fact Valve never, at that point, bothered to make their console ports particularly high quality and the performance gap, even for a game which isn't a looker on PC to begin with, was way bigger than other PC to 360 porting devs would be happy with(Bioware got the versions of ME a lot closer around the same time). Thing is even WITH these gripes the 360 versions of those games sold like crazy-sure I felt ripped off paying full retail for a game that cost me less than half that(for the better version WITH the possibility of mods on Steam, but I STILL bought it to pay with my 360 mates and even if the Xbox has more shooter fans thing IS borne out there's still a big market for this on PS3 if done even close to right. If the get this out for less than £20 AND allow/support some importation of mods to PS3it could be massive as, to be realistic, there's possibly a billion different heists ready made to rip off for both the devs and potential modders! If they do what I suggest I honesty would be VERY excited for this one even if it IS another FPS. BTW-I LOVE Valve but it did gall me a little that they allowed a few crappy console ports to sully their image this gen and never really addressed it or apologised except for the PS3 version of tOB-but they didn't make that port and it was so bad ANYONE would have spotted the shortfalls. I just want them to take consoles as seriously as they do PC or just not bother OR get someone else who does care to make their ports. I love them, as I say, but L4D needed apologising as it felt like they were being less than fair with 360 gamers and, at the time, hiding it behind daft anti PS3/PSN outbursts. It just didn't FEEL like Valve OR like how they should be behaving. Whatever, i just didn't ant anyone to think I was blindly hating Valve OR L4D(great game just on 360 not great value for THAT package).

Warhawk is STILL the single best online game on PSN(and if it can still have dedicated servers today why on the planet can't Uncharted3 Sony?)and there uis NO way the SP side of Starhawk will be the main focus of Dylan and the LB bvoys and is probs where the SM crew help the most with their GOW and tech knowledge from a SP/PS3 perspective while LB/Incognito's old boys will try to add to and repeat the amazingly demanding MP elements found in Warhawk. The building as you play element is new to console MP shooters and will be interesting to see how it pans out in a game of CTF or TDM! Can't wait for this one but as Warhawk was ALREADY a game with a near vertical learning curve for latecomers i'd advise ANYONE wanting to even be OK at this one to be looking for a beta key at best and , at worst, preordering and putting in the hours from day one! I was a little late to the last party and was lucky to fund a couple of experienced mates who taught me a bit more than the basics and that matey ruthlessness is pretty unique among PSN online communities-supportive ad=fter the game but deadly within it. Oh well,I've fapped enough to you about Warhawk and my hopes for this and it'll be amazing to finally have some reference for the online stuff but whatever made those Chernovans and Eucadians so angry last timeout? A lot of 'Hawkers will be very upset if this is dumbed don at all but Sony and DJ are making ALL the right noises about this so, hopefully, this will not be another Socom(Confrontation or Socom4 take your pick!) situation for series fans on PS3. Dos look VERY goo though and Warhawk, bless it, wasn't ever a looker!

X-Men Destiny (Xbox 360): X-Men: Destiny's Comic-Con trailers detail voice talent, confirm September 27 release
I get to experience "going from the darkness into the light" EVERY time I want milk from the fridge! Have THAT "Adrian"! I don't need the risk of a pretty shonky and wobbly looking Silicon Knights X-Men game sans playing as , you know, an actual X-Men character. Maybe it's the right way to go seeing as good Marvel based games are rarer than rare things and a properly blank slate character may be easier to pull off within that universe but, to me, it feels like double the risk with the To Human AND Marvel poisoned chalices both at the same time. I hope this game is, for once, worth us still not getting a sequel to a certain SK game that we ALL want made!! Never mind going from the darkness to the light I wanna go back for some Darkness of the Eternal kind! Probably never going to happen now but every time I see DD's company mentioned i still hope.

TS , a a series, is amazing and TS2 holds a special place in many people's hearts. Having replayed, and been let down by, the original G'eye last year(just hasn't aged very well) I went back to TS recently fearing the same outcome but me and the wife spent days reliving our PS2 reverie! It was a great series and TS2 the best of that series and the sad thing is that Crytek appear too stupid to realise exactly why they bought FRD which CANNOT have been Haze and must SURELY have been(the nearly finished then taken away) Battlefront game and TS4, no? While Dr doak has already gone and is on a second post FRD company(the first being Pumpkin Beach IIRC making casual fluff)surely there are enough Crytek UK folk knowing how to take TS to the next level? Better than Halo in it's day and more deserving of success than a million CODs. BRING IT BACK , CRYTEK. Crysis is meh and TS amazing. LEARN this.

Metro: Last Light (PC): First gameplay video for Metro: Last Light, the sequel to one of 2010’s best overlooked games
Great fist game but, even at high diffs I found you could, more often than not, just leg it if in doubt which was a kind of cheap pressure release valve when you'd ran out of ideas or patience when trying to sneak(which was a broken mechanic in a lot of ways and, mainy, because the i sight/out of sight light indicators on your "watch" just like lying tag lag and monsters would often have seen you while it was maintaining you's been hidden at all times)properly through a level. As you're in FP all the time and it's hard to tell if you'r legs etc are hidden if even you don't know where they are that indicator needed to be really bang on and it often wasn't and I also found the camera did funny things which led to me getting spotted and outnumbered/having to leg it to a checkpoint again rather than play as I'd really wanted to and felt the game gave most if you kept to that form of gameplay. That apart, though, i'd just like more point and involvement in the RPG elements. You could, for instance, have more and better ways of maintaining your gas masks rather than merely looking for another filter.Maybe fixing and making and upgrading weapons and survival items using every day things found in the environments which isn't just straight forwards(and making this more prevalent at a higher difficulty where, say, you wouldn't find whole filters/masks/arts ready made for you)like it was last time round. If they do that, make some more amazing monster types to add to those they already have and keep the weapons a little wobbly the only real addition I'd really love them to bring about would be some even more open ended levels with more freedom than last time-not just multiple routes to get by a level by different ways to get through them too-and, preferably not(well, sometimes is cool but not as often as last game)by simply running to your goal if all else is failing. Then again, I'm ruling out the small chance that no one else found the running away from trouble at all common because I might just be the world's best video game coward-which might be possible as a strategy I developed purely as a defence mechanism to protect myself from virtual humiliation through a total lack of shooting and stealth skillz. Whatever, looking forward to going back, looking forward to, one day, getting to read a good translation of the esteemed Russian novel that informs the games and hoping they keep the good stuff and add a bit of what we all ask for as little improvements. there's the very first CLASSIC survival horror, stealth FPS in there somewhere and they got some bits on the money first time around so getting everything worikng this time would make an amazing game even better.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Xbox 360): Call of Duty Elite: how it improves multiplayer for both experts AND novices
I will NEVER understand the need some people have for what they call "metagame" these days and though it kind of irks me to say it I'm totally as non plussed by it as Jaffe is. I guess the nears=est I've ever come to caring about anything so trivial in gaming is when I actuall bothered looking for every feather in SC2 just because I happened to be close to a platinum trophy and I felt totally conned when I'd done it and a bbit anoyed at myself for bothering. What I'd always imagihned to have no worth actually did have no worth ajnd I would have been way better of just finishing the game rather than bowing to false replay reasons around it. While not being quite the same thing i'd always felt the same about caring about your KDR and other main stats in a shooter as caringa bit too much about so,mething I play totally to enjoy myself. Fair enough, if looking at and perfecting your stats is where you get your kicks and you just want to win FOR YOU all the time and only play non objective gametypes(as in team based modes you often HAVE to so things unhealthy for those stats just to win/help the team win/avoid defeatbut therwise I just don't understand why anyione would care this much and , more, to pay for some on top of even this or what Bungie have always offered. It's fun to see what you average but beyond that I can't see how it alters anything except, IDK, maybe your confidence if you need bolstering in your virtual travails. Ad I said, if it's your bag then I guess more of it is cool for you ut I'll just never see the worth or the joy in it at all. If I was [laying competitively, properly wanting tio win or gaming for cash then, sure, anything you can learn is possibly going t help youget that edge and, by all means, do your research but I just think it's taking normal, fun, gaming a bit too seriously if you don't play with that edge all the time and if you do doesn't it take the gloss off knowing most people, like me, couldn't care less about this stuff and play for kicks? Sure, none of us like to lose and will always try to win but I know i've got extra gears to go to that I don't use in everyday gaming and nearly everyone I know is the same-nobody brings their "A game" 24/7, do they? And if not what's the real point of any of this except to make us care and buy into the parts thy can sell? Honestly,I just don't believe that high a percentage of COD players are poring over their stats and even of those that do I can't see all of them playing at the very highest intensity all the time and if you don't then the stats are meaningless, aren't they? Yu'd be admitting to messing with a buig variable that renders the whole thing meaningless and as I said some game types aren't great for all stat types and as a result could this lead to some modes becoming less popular and team gaming getting more rare?I think ,most stats encourage a selfish, or more selfish attitude and when you game primarily because it's fun(and fun to win but not life or death)would we want that? I'm not griping about what Activision are giving as the free part of Elite but do worry about this trend in gaming AND think they're trying to bolster the importance of this side of things purely because they can monetise it further along if they can get enough of us to care about what I see as almost nothing. I'm also of the mind that it's prolly a thing which a lot of younger gamers, brought up more around MP gaming as a big part of their gaming, really like and care about and not ,like a lot of older gamers(who gamed a long time before stats like these were really cared about and, indeed, before online MP at all)who really don't-in the main. As such, ignore me, as the nurse will be round with my meds again soon.

XCOM (PC): 2K defends XCOM's first-person shooter reboot
Clueless ad offensive comparisons aside the damn shame is that they're scaring off the original PC gamers who love proper Xcom and not making an immediate enough FPS for the newer console crowd who have no clue what the first game was about, what it played like or, in actual fact, ever existed. Selling ANOTHER shooter in this market is tough even when, as with THQ and Homefront, you make a shedload of noise about it-yet 2K think the Xcom name is gong to carry this one despite the old fans hating it's genre change and the "new" gamers not even knowing it's got a history let alone one they'd even care about or care for? They're going to lose whatever they put into this game, imho, as ifail to see a hook apart from THAT name and, as a lot of us have already noted, nobody who played the original WANTED a FPS sequel and they are neither making a game to appeal to the COD masses nor are they marketing it to them so where and why do they see this game selling? What reason is there for Joe /blow who buys a couple of shooters per year, maybe a Fifa or Madden title, to get on board with new Xcom considering 90% of those who know the game won't be buying this one? What does it offer that other games don't and, then, is it SIMILAR enough to Halo or COD to even break even? All questions we can answer and not with dodgy musical comparisons which show a lack of understanding across entertainment and all with answers 2K seemingly are in total denial over! Honestly, does anyone see(or can they tell me)how or why this game might, even possibly, sell enough copies to break even? I just see a totally misguided idea that they'd be well off closing down before spunking any more on development, marketing or production/haulage and storage costs. What the HELL will they do when it reviews like crap too? It's got "money sink" written all over it-even if it's a pretty good game it's sinking without trace and would possibly have to totally reinvent the FS wheel to have any chance of being relevant let alone a sleeper or cult hit-and there's simply no chance of true success even now. Besides, what's with trying to say that turn based gaming and strategy no longer have any appeal or worth? Are they really just making statements, and the game, purely to annoy us old fans? More questions neither we nor 2K want to know the answers to i'm guessing.

My idea's so much better as Kirbs would kick some serious interstellar arse in shep's universe. Now I'm disapointed in what'to be fair looks like a cool game. what i fail top understand, though, is that this appears a real chance to use a new IP or older, less used character. Kirby's powers are nowhere to be seen and as a result a fresher bunch of characters with this as their hook makes more sense to me-not as much as Mass Effect: Kirby Comes to the Citadel would but, still, a new IP from them would have made more sense in my tired old head. Still good, mind.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Xbox 360): New Final Fantasy XIII-2 screens show proof of PS3 bias!
Don't care.where the eff is Versus? FF13 and it's soul destroying study in boredom(or a "battle system" as some deluded people called it!)are both back! Great, we plaed this game once, didn't we?I see precious little in terms of combat mechanics and way too many characters and places I despised first time round during the long excuse for a tutorial to an idiot proof and screen cluttering travesty of the Paradign Shift auto battle blandness SEdecided was so great evewn RPG haters would stick through a twenty hour lesson in NOTHING for. ASorry, but why can't I have one game from SE that I might enjoy? I suspect 13-2 is the result of al that game left on the cutting room floor and how come we now have the HD towns that would "take FOREVER" to make? Has tech advanced so much in the past year that forever is now less than six months in game dev world? Just as sick of the lies and procrastination as I am with THAT combat and, though it's naturally easy enough to avoid auto battle and pick your abilities and buffs the auto battle would choose the same thing ninety percent of the time anyway in my experience sio the freedom felt illusory and ~I could NEVER forgive the messy and cluttered(game breaking to me)state of the screen during combat. If I wanted to read that many meters /I'd work for the Gas board. Sadly, people will fall for this as it puts back some of what we should have had first time round but, for me, every second witrh FF13 was a chore and I pray enough FF fans feel the same to make this less profitable as it simply, morally, deserves no success when it's a game made from off cuts and apologies and lies. While the superior looking Versus which we've been promised for YEARS before this was even announced waits in the wings forgotten by SE things seem even worse than usual in Wada land.

Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (PS3): Capcom promises big Marvel vs Capcom news at Comic-Con 2011
Christ, if it's not bloody SF,SSF,SF3rdHD Online in a tu-tu and a billion other SF variants it's SFxTekken! Now what do Capcom offer? That's right ANOTHER fighting game update!! Great. Is thias about all we can expect from a publisher that used to release great games AS WELL AS great fighters but now farms out a lot of their better franchises to crap studios(the killed Grin doing this and now seem set on giving DMC to NT who barely ever did ANYTHING to suggest they can be in Kamiya's league with said game)or ruins Resi in house while, again, farming out the new shooter shoot off to a failed dev in confrontations /6!! This company USED to release games as great and varied as Okami, Resi1 through 4, DMC1 and 3, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, BS-the list is endless but now if it;'s not as fighter or MH you're basically screwed as if they DO manage a great game-say Zack and Wiki for example(best third party motion controls on the Wii)they totally ignore it exists!! I'm a bigger fan of non Capcom fighters, tbh,but always accept the great quality one of my fave dev houses put into SF games and the MVsC series too but it's getting to the point where I think even THEY know it's about the only genre they have a handle on for western markets and as a result it's all we get these days. Hell, their best IP invented this gen is Dead Rising and even that they managed to take backards by farming the sequel out to a western dev-I just wonder what goes on at Capcom when even promising titles like Dragon's Dogma appear lacklustre alongside their competition yet we never see a true Onimusha game, true sequel to Okami or a revamped Dino Crisis which people have clamoured for for ages and definitely a lot this gen where tech would make the games finally look like we imagined they should. We could them forget the regrettable DC3 too! Oh Capcom, what's gone wrong?

Love GTA, Heavy Rain and Resident Evil? Well Deadly Premonition is better than all of them. Here's why
I'm just not mneant to play some games. I remembewr being ripped off TWICE trying to import Demon's Sou.ls in the days before we knew it was coming to the UK and DP/RS has been pretty much the same. I tried to grab a Japanese copy off Ebay the other month(after none of our local game shops getting a copy of DP in the past year and i wasn't getting a lecture about how crap it is from a Game manager again and ordering it!)but the guy just closed the auction on me at the last minute with no explanation. Been on my rental list at Love film since the day it released too and I no longer even believe they HAVE a copy. I'm going to Manchester next week so if I can't pick up either version(I'd prefer the PS3 import if I'm buying to be honest as you can, I'm told, download a PDA of the item descriptions from somewhere and that's about the only thing not available in English)I'm declaring it cursed.

BioShock Infinite (PC): BioShock Infinite: If you don’t like PlayStation Move, you can ignore it, says Ken Levine
Bu bu but isn't a mouse a motion controller? Yes,yes it is. Never seen such a blatant piece of over generalised doyuble standards in my life. Hardcore? Hypocrite. I don't get this whole "motion controls can only ever be casual" mindset. The only issue is WHEN they're used the either have to be, as here, an alternate possibility or, preferably, add something a controller cannot(like a mouse enables quicker accuracy in aiming for shooters so will pointer style motion controls if given the chance)and, sadly, that's what's been lacking in motion controls and we've been left with takced on waggle as a gimmick rather than experiences either tailored for or changed by the motion being added. Saying motion controls are inherently casual, though, is idiocy. If a motion controls one day allow sportsmen and women solo training in their homes is THAT casual skill levels? If the accuracy is there the skill can be there and all that holds us back(dev and gamer alike) are our safety blankets and our lack of imagination. I'm no huge fan of motion controls for this very reason but should the games be invented that made real sense of Kinect I'd be first in line to accept my doubts about the whole shebang(I doubt it because my imagination can't see round satisfactorily navigating a game world using it atm)and as I've used a mouse to motion control(with NO flailing-see it's possible!!!)my shooters for years how could I be totally down on new motion controls just because a lot of casual nonsense uses them badly? I'm just interested in the games which use it well and with a purpose outside of motion itself. Was just playing Sin And Punishment 2 on the Wii-and if that isn't a hardcore game improved by motion controls then I dunno what would be. Sick of the closed minded being the majority in the long term gamer.

Sonic Generations (Xbox 360): Sonic 20th Anniversary Bundle arrives on PSN, Generations demo available for all
The issue I have with Sonic Team is the constant refusal to do the easy things right. Do what ou know works and go from there-don't mess about with the stuff that works and then add to it when that's what's screwed you for over ten years. They remind me of that maniac from the Farcry3 playthrough/press demo who traps you twice and keeps asking if he "told you the meaning of insanity" when he propounds it to be doing the same thing over and over when you now it doesn't work and just hoping, this time, somehow, the same effort will result ion something different or better when you have experience to know it cannot. This bunch of chancers even managed to mess too much with the basics, instead of nailing what we originall loved ffs, with the episodic Sonic 4 for crying out loud. Any anniversary bundle just points out their bloody errors. I doubt they will be picking up on their demo ?BS from Unleashed were anyone p[laying just the demo would NEVER even know the Werehog parts( three quarters of the sodding, boring game of which they're the most dull, mind numbing parts)existed-not that the name even makes sense ! Had you bought that game on the strength of said demo(and the Sonic bits were OK so you'd have been more likely to than if you read a review or anything else about the game)I fear Sega would REALLY owe you as it's just a con-maybe done to make up for the VC demo, at the time, beuig enough to put ANYONE off a great game!! Anyhoo-I love the first three Sonic games and while they do deserve a bit of nostalgic backslapping ST also deserve a lot more stick than they ever manage to get. Because so many of us STILL want to think they will go back to what we all know works they don't get half the vitriol for missed chances that they should and the lack of plain common sense they've shown when doing their best to annoy long time series fans is almost beyond my understanding in it's bloody minded idiocy. This should be EASY for them but they will keep managing to balls it up by imagining Sonic in games and situations he ill jut never be suited to and ignoring the stuff we all know he's best for. If you play 1 or two before playing Sonic 4 you'll totally7understand why it's not as slick, not as seamless and , simply, not as good. Within seconds anyone could tell. So celebrate Sonic but do NOT expect back slaps from us series fans when, ion all reality, is us that merit the back slaps for even considering sticking by the franchise through all the crap we have done, and continue, to do.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River (Xbox 360): Operation Flashpoint: Red River review
Meh. There IS no perfect place be it console OR PC for a ealistic shooter in this day and age. It's true, as people above have said, that the issue is making realistic warfare actual fun when it clearly never is and very few people like the idea of you having just one life in a shooter where you'd also be learning skills as you went along(unless you give a TRUE military sim and have six weeks minimum basic training?)-imagine putting thirty hard, concentration fuelled hours into a game only to be shot once by superman AI(or worse, one of your own team)and it's all gone. THAT is what war is like but in gaming terms i8t's BS and you cannot close that divide and for most gamers that's where the issues would b and what gamers devs wanting to make a realistic shooting experience based on warfare. As for the console/PC thing I don't go in for there being this supposed super gaming race that only plays on PC and put 99% of game sdifferences down to control input differences and the different options available when you game on PC compared to console. To me it can go either way: I USED to play ALL my shooters on PC(lost my life, at one point to CS!)but sacked it a while back fir various reasons. Firstly, while I agree that K/M is a more efficient and effective control method for shooters I doNOT thnk it's inherently BETTER. I fiond it TOO good and makes a human character feel superhuman, it's troo easy and makes you too good for SPcampaigns. In MP I, also, feel console gaming is a little better for me as it'sa more level playing field no matter whether you prefer a K/M or a pad. Fo me a console shooter online offers me a gaming experience where nearly everyone is on the same page, with the same tech and most of the time the exact same controller. this isn't the case on PC(and even ignoring things you can do via console mods like painting out backgrounds to show enemy players better and other cheaty tips)where I still find myself unsure as to whether I got where I am via skill or tech balance etc. Sure, I'm not saying cosnole gamers are more or less mature than PC gamers as I don't believe you should make the observation without proper evidence and neither should eliminate any game type based on that kind of thing and the lack of "real" shooters is just as much down to the fact that Real" is bog all fun when you get to the sharp end. Whatever, I think the speed of aim with K/M allows more freedom to devs on PCshooters(it gives more tie for more control options which can be hot keyed on PC too)but that should NOT be the governing factor over co sole oly gamers getting dumbed down pors every time. Also, I didn't see more than THREE actual gamers who thought BF3 was ever gong to look the exact same on console as on PC. Seriously, saying console gamers,in any great numbers, thought that is showing you want to believe console(or S3) gamers are stupid for your own agendas.99.9 per cent of gamers know exactly that six year old console cannot match brand new C and pretending the tech clueless among us are the majority is just a daft as they are. Anyway, this franchise is stuck between two stools on console and on PC and needs to stick or twist imho.

GamesRadar E3 2011 Special Award: Best Game for Masochists
Well, as it was a game that kind of defined a mood among gamers that we'd been waiting for the tough love of Demon's Souls without ever knowing it before we played it I'm glad MORE of us will get to be humiliated by From's team of sadists. We DID want it, mind, and DS's position of least likely PS3 exclusive to be a sleeper hit bears witness to that(well, and also to a lot of gamers who found they didn't like the toughness one bit and went scurrying back to their shooter du jour pretty soon!)as did the merrily scrawled, often darkly daft, messages of warning players slain at certain spots had left for us./ Haven't totally followed Dark Souls in detail but hopefully the online will be even better and more effective than ever(and it was already way ahead of the curve of every other RG ever created in this respect as the online part of the game was incredibly new-at least to me it was)and they continue with the "hard but fair" gameplay mnechanics and tells which would let you know,if you were watchful, just what kind of things were coming up in Demon's. While the original wan't a game I sat down and determinedly ploughed through in dark happiness like many did(I seemed to return to it for wee stints at weekends for a couple of months before finishing off in a big lump!)I did fuind it enthralling in the end and never once thought of sacking the whole thing and don't know how I feelabout it having a proper checkpoint system! Will be tough, but managed OK by most if the will is there. Demon's wasn't a cruel game and could be mastered by the watchful and even mastered by those who fell in love with it early on. I just think many that were put off were just unused to having to actually lose something when they died-but we moan that, say, Fable doesn't ever punish us AT ALL for a death so what is it? DS , like DS before it(ha ha), will be fair but firm and a belter of a game from From.

GamesRadar E3 2011 Special Award: Most Shameless Rip-off
Disney have been defunct a a creative force, nearly totally, for decades imho and Epic Mickey was a last hurrah of missed chances and unfleshed out ideas which should have been the re-start of something but, sadly, proved little but a distraction at the wake for Disney's imagination. Christ, they continue to lay off staff while making derivative fluff with zero gameplay and zero Disney appeal-they couldn't be further away from the plot if they tried and every time I same anything connected with them from E3 I shuddered. This is merely the most obvious mash up of theft you could find.
